Vizianagaram collector warns of action against absentee officials ignoring public petitions

Vizianagaram Collector B.R. Ambedkar has issued a stern warning to officials who fail to meet expectations of the government, particularly the Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS) and welfare schemes, which have been given priority. During a meeting at the Collectorate, the Collector directed his anger to the errant PGRS officials. According to sources, many top officials have been skipping the PGRS meetings, and have skipped attending the video conferences organised by higher officials in Amaravati. Many of these top officials have taken extended leave, leaving junior officers to attend in their place—who often provide routine and unsatisfactory answers to public petitions. However, these same officers have been seen moving with political leaders and attending their programmes. This irked the Collector, who threatened to surrender them to the government if they intentionally ignore their official responsibilities. The Collector expressed displeasure over the functioning of the revenue, Samagra Siksha Abhiyan, agriculture and other key departments. Speaking to the media, the Collector said that every petition submitted in PGRS must undergo an audit. He said that officials had received 143 petitions on Monday, and they were sent to the respective departments for immediate follow-up and necessary action.

Mango growers up in arms after pleading for remunerative price for the sixth year

After sustaining losses for six consecutive years in the absence of remunerative prices, the mango growers of the undivided Chittoor district have raised a banner of revolt. Even as the mango season is nearing its end, the pulp factories, which are replete in the region, are yet to open their gates in a full-fledged manner for receiving the harvested fruits, triggering a sense of alarm among the farming community. There was palpable calm and uncertainty at the start of the season, where farmers perceived a heavy fall in yield as the flowers dropped in large quantities. However, the yield turned out to be better than expected, making the price plunge. Leave alone the exotic fruits, like Benisha, Alphonso, Kalepad, Pullura and Imam Pasand, collectively called as 'table varieties', even the ubiquitous 'Bengalura' or 'Totapuri', which is widely used by the fruit pulp factories, are waiting for takers. Members of the Federation of Farmers Associations led by Mangati Gopal Reddy, A. Rama Naidu, K. Venkaiah, Price Stabilisation Committee convener T. Janardhan and others attended the Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS) meeting at the district Collectorate here on Monday and submitted a representation to Collector S. Venkateswar on the need for government intervention to get remunerative prices for the mango growers. Recalling that the farmers had hit the streets for the last six years appealing for remunerative price, the farmer leaders sought a minimum of ₹30 per kg for the mangoes, which they said was 'the least price to sustain their livelihood'. Acknowledging their concern, Mr. Venkateswar pointed to the series of meetings he had with the departmental officials at the State and district levels, and assured that the State government would come to the rescue of the mango growers.

People urged to avail ‘WhatsApp Governance' platform

Rajamahendravaram: East Godavari district collector P Prasanthi on Sunday said that the Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS) will be conducted as usual on Monday, June 2 at the district, division, and mandal levels. The collector also highlighted that citizens can now submit their grievances directly through the 'WhatsApp Governance' platform, in addition to the existing options. As part of the government's citizen-friendly services, the public can lodge their complaints via the toll-free helpline '1100 – Meekosam Call Centre' or through the official website she added. This digital facility enables people who are unable to submit applications in person to register complaints online and track the status of their grievances. Collector Prasanthi urged the public to save the WhatsApp Governance number 9552300009 on their mobile phones for faster access to services. She said that the system allows people to avoid travel expenses by providing an easy and direct way to report issues and monitor their resolutions. The PGPRS programme will be held at the District Collectorate, division offices, municipal offices, and mandal headquarters from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday. Special officers, along with district, divisional, mandal, and municipal-level officials, are mandated to attend without fail. The collector reiterated the government's commitment to prompt and efficient service delivery and encouraged citizens to utilise the available digital platforms to ensure their concerns are addressed promptly.
