Google has revealed that its products and AI-powered tools contributed an estimated AED 21.8bn ($5.9bn) to the UAE economy in 2024, according to its newly launched Economic Impact Report, conducted by Public First. The report highlights how platforms such as Google Search, YouTube, Maps, Play and Ads are helping people, businesses, developers and content creators thrive in the UAE's fast-evolving digital economy. Anthony Nakache, Managing Director for Google in the Middle East and North Africa, said: 'We're incredibly proud to be a partner in the UAE's boundless ambitions. The report reflects our investment in accelerating the country's ambitious journey towards a diversified, AI-powered economy. 'Through strategic investments, local partnerships, and our AI-powered tools, we're bringing substantial economic value and empowering individuals, businesses, and communities in the UAE.' Google 2024 UAE Impact Report key findings 1. Making everyday life easier Google services generated consumer benefits worth AED683 ($186) per month for the average person in the United Arab Emirates 63 per cent of UAE adults used Gemini, Google's AI assistant, with 90 per cent saying it helped them be more productive 71 per cent of users said Gemini is easier to use in Arabic than other AI chatbots 50 per cent of adults said Google Search is essential to their daily lives 89 per cent relied on Google Maps and Waze to avoid getting lost 90 per cent said mobile payments through GPay or GWallet made their lives easier 2. Fuelling business growth 91 per cent of UAE businesses use at least one AI tool in their workflows 73 per cent of people aged 18–24 use Google Search weekly for shopping or browsing 80 per cent use Google Maps and Waze monthly to locate local businesses 86 per cent check Google reviews before visiting a business 94 per cent compare product prices via Google Search monthly 97 per cent of public sector employees said Google AI tools improved workplace productivity 3. Google reported that its Search and Ads products alone generated AED 20.2 billion in business-related economic activity in the UAE in 2024. Anthony Nakache, Managing Director for Google in the Middle East and North Africa, stated that the findings reflect Google's role in supporting the UAE's transition to an AI-enabled and diversified digital economy. He added that Google's local investments, AI tools, and strategic partnerships are contributing to long-term growth. The report also noted Google's skilling initiative, Maharat Min Google. Since its launch in 2018, the program has trained over 430,000 individuals in essential digital and AI skills across the UAE. In addition, the Android and Google Play app ecosystem supported the creation of 30,000 jobs in 2024. Google reported that AED 455 million in revenue was generated by the Android App Economy for UAE-based developers last year. Public First's findings were based on a mix of consumer and business polling, case studies, economic modeling, and third-party data. The report assesses Google's impact in three areas: people, businesses, and communities. Among consumers: Google services generated an estimated AED 683 per month in average consumer benefit. 63% of adults in the UAE said they used Gemini, Google's AI assistant. 90% agreed Gemini helped them be more productive. 71% said Gemini was easier to use in Arabic than other AI chatbots. Further insights showed that 50% of adults considered Google Search essential to daily life. Around 89% found Google Maps or Waze useful for navigation, while 90% said contactless payment options like GPay or GWallet made life easier. For businesses: 91% of UAE businesses used at least one AI tool in their workflows. 73% of people aged 18–24 used Google Search weekly to browse or shop online. 86% checked Google reviews monthly before visiting venues. 94% used Google Search monthly to compare prices. 97% of public sector workers said Google AI tools improved their work productivity. The report also touched on the broader content ecosystem. Google reported that over 600 YouTube channels in the UAE had more than one million subscribers in 2024, reflecting a 15% year-on-year growth. Additionally, the Google News Initiative trained over 20,000 journalists and journalism students in the MENA region, including in the UAE. The Economic Impact Report underlines how Google's digital tools are playing a role in the UAE economy by supporting job creation, digital skills development, and business productivity.

Google contributed an estimated Dh21.8 billion to the UAE economy in 2024 through its multiple apps and channels that residents in the country use in their daily lives. According to the Economic Impact Report released by the technology giant, the Android and Google Play app ecosystem supported the creation of 30,000 jobs in the UAE last year. The report revealed that Google's Search and Ads alone helped provide Dh20.2 billion in economic activity for businesses in the UAE. Conducted in English and Arabic in March 2025 by the Public First research agency, the survey covered 1,110 online adults and 389 business leaders based in the UAE. 'The UAE is reimagining what a modern economy can look like and leveraging technology in really interesting and exciting ways. This is particularly true when it comes to AI. We estimate that generative AI could grow the economy by almost Dh300 billion and drive genomic diversification by nearly 30 per cent. "We estimate that AI tools would help increase productivity across the UAE by 15 per cent – equivalent to 310 hours per offer, reallocated higher value tasks each year,' said Amy Price, director and head of technology, media and telecom prices at Public First. 'Through strategic investments, local partnerships, and our AI-powered tools, we're bringing substantial economic value and empowering individuals, businesses, and communities in the UAE,' said Anthony Nakache, managing director for Google in the Middle East and North Africa. The study found that Dh455 million of revenue was generated by the Android App Economy for UAE-based developers in 2024, as half of adults in the Emirates say Google Search is essential to their daily lives while nearly 9 out of 10 – 89 per cent – UAE residents reported that Google Maps and/or Waze were very useful when they were avoiding getting lost. It added that an estimated 7.6 per cent million adults in the UAE used Google Search to learn a new digital skill. Nearly 9 out of 10 – 90 per cent – of adults in the UAE said that the ability to make contactless payments on mobile devices through services like GPay or GWallet makes their lives easier. Interestingly, the Economic Impact Report found that consumers in the UAE, on average, get Dh683 a month in benefits created by Google services. Google products – Search, Play, Maps, YouTube and Google Ads – are among the most popular apps and are widely used in the UAE and globally. The technology giant said more than 430,000 individuals in the UAE had been trained in digital and AI skills through Google's key skilling initiative, "Maharat Min Google", initiative since 2018.
