Hibees Pride to represent the Club at Pride Edinburgh 2025
The Hibernian supporters' group Hibees Pride will represent the Club at Pride Edinburgh 2025. Hibees Pride formed in 2022 and have remained an integral part in keeping Easter Road a safe and inclusive place for all supporters. The supporter-led group have twice been represented at the Proud Scotland Awards, which honour those who champion diversity and inclusion in the nation within the LGBTQI+ community. In 2023, Hibees Pride were nominated in the Charity/Group Initiative category, before being shortlisted in the Sports and Recreation Award in 2024. Since their formation, the inclusive group have consistently challenged various issues on homophobia in football and have engaged in discussions on national TV and radio, always representing the values of Hibernian FC and promoting an inclusivity for all in the sport. The group have continually worked closely with the Club across many issues and topics, while also taking part in key activations – such as season ticket campaigns and kit launches. Pride Edinburgh is Scotland's longest running celebration of diversity, and has continued to grow at a great rate as it celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. The event, which is Scotland's national LGBT festival, features a march and a community-focused festival that allows organisations, activists and individuals to represent their culture and themselves. Hibees Pride representative, and Hibernian FC Supporters' Panel member, Julie Cuthbertson commented: 'Our group has continued to progress since its inception in 2022 and the upcoming Pride Edinburgh march is another opportunity for Hibees Pride to let the wider LGBTQIA+ community know that our group, with the support of the club, is committed to making football a positive experience for all. 'While Pride is always a celebration of the rich diversity in our community, its history is also deeply rooted in taking a stand against the discrimination, abuse and violence that we continue to experience. 'This year feels more important than any other year in recent times, as some of the rights that our community have fought so hard to achieve are being wound back, here in Scotland and further afield.' The march will take place on Saturday 21 June. More information on the event, and how you can join Hibees Pride for the march, is available across Hibees Pride's social media channels. Pride Edinburgh ban politicians from this year's event
Pride Edinburgh is due to hold their 2025 march on 21 June through the city centre, but they have just announced that all politicians will be banned. it is customary for politicians of all parties to make impassioned speeches from the top of the Pride bus outside The Scottish Parliament before the march then proceeds up the Royal Mile and eventually to The Meadows. This year however the organisation says that it cannot have any politicians in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling on the Equality Act 2010. In a statement which you can read below the organisation says: 'The organising team is alarmed by the ongoing rollback of protections and support for the transgender community driven by those in power across both the Scottish and UK governments and political parties.' The statement continues: 'It is clear those in power and the combined voices of political parties across the UK by their silence and inaction, are not hearing the voices of our community and it would be wrong for Pride Edinburgh 2025 to give political parties a platform at our event.' © 2023 Martin McAdam Like this: Like Related

Trans women gather in topless Scottish Parliament protest against supreme court ruling
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Transgender women held a topless protest outside of Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh on Saturday, May 17, in a show against the recent supreme court ruling on the legal definition of a woman. Around 200 protestors took part in the demonstration at Holyrood as they set out to "confront the Scottish government's failure to respond with strength and solidarity." The transgender woman stood outside parliament, topless, with red painted right arms as a show of solidarity with anti-fascist feminists in Europe, tape over their mouths to represent the censorship of trans voices in this ruling and a white rose to represent the death of transgender rights in the UK. Sign up for Edinburgh Live newsletters for more headlines straight to your inbox Sophie Molly, who took part in the demonstration and helped organise the event alongside a group of transgender women across Scotland said she felt the Supreme Court Ruling and the EHRC Interim Guidance is "a real setback for bodily autonomy" and that this ruling wouldn't just hurt transgender women, but all women. (Image: Ross Macdougal) She added: "It went really well. Lots of support for trans and non-binary people. A good turn out of around 200 people. A joyous atmosphere of resilience and determination. "We were joined by pro-Palestine campaigners. A good show of solidarity." It comes after Pride Edinburgh suspended political parties from participating in this year's pride march in response to the ruling. This year, political parties won't be invited to give the traditional pre-march speeches, political parties will not be able to have stalls at the community fair and they will not be permitted to partake in the march. Sharing this decision on social media, organisers wrote: "It is clear those in power and the combined voices of political parties across the UK, by their silence and inaction, are not hearing the voices of our community, and it would be wrong for Pride Edinburgh 2025 to give political parties a platform at our event. "Therefore, the first time in our history, Pride Edinburgh is suspending the participation of all political parties from our 2025 event."

Pride Edinburgh suspend political party participation citing 'Supreme Court ruling'
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Pride Edinburgh have announced they will be suspending political participation for this year's march following the recent Supreme Court ruling on the legal definition of a woman. Organisers of the event shared their 'alarm and concern' on the 'rollback of protections and support for the transgender community' within the UK and the resulting lack of meaningful action by politicians. Sharing their decision on Facebook, Pride Edinburgh wrote: "As we make the final preparations for Pride Edinburgh 2025: We are visible, marking our 28th event in our 30th year, we do so with a deep sense of urgency and concern. "The organising team is alarmed by the ongoing rollback of protections and support for the transgender community, driven by those in power across both the Scottish and UK governments and political parties. "At its core, pride exists to amplify community voices, empower individuals, and hold institutions accountable. any move to silence or exclude undermines these very principles. We share the community's anger, grief, and frustration. "Following the recent supreme court ruling and the continued lack of meaningful political action. We stand in unwavering solidarity with our trans siblings. they deserve better. "It is clear those in power and the combined voices of political parties across the UK, by their silence and inaction, are not hearing the voices of our community, and it would be wrong for Pride Edinburgh 2025 to give political parties a platform at our event. "Therefore, the first time in our history, Pride Edinburgh is suspending the participation of all political parties from our 2025 event." In light of this, political parties will not be invited to give the traditional pre-march speeches, political parties will not be able to have stalls at the community fair, and they will not be permitted to partake in the march. They continued: "Instead, in the spirit of reclaiming pride's purpose, we are proud to support our partners at the equality network, who will host a community-led speeches stage on the morning of the march. This stage, located away from the Scottish Parliament, will feature specially invited speakers from within the community and beyond. full details will be announced by the equality network in due course. "We are also honoured to confirm that the sisters of perpetual indulgence will once again lead the community in their traditional minutes noise and minutes silence ahead of the march. "Pride remains open to all individuals who support the values of equality, visibility, and justice. individual MP's, MSP's, and members of political parties are welcome to join us in a personal capacity, in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community." They went on to reiterate that this is not a ban against political parties and individuals, but a suspension, adding: "Pride Edinburgh has never issued a ban and we will not begin now. "There will be no bans issued for pride 2025." Edinburgh Live has contacted political parties for comment.
