328 million e-invoices processed by LHDN so far

Published on: Thursday, June 12, 2025 Published on: Thu, Jun 12, 2025 By: Predeep Nambiar, FMT Text Size: LHDN's e-invoicing director Rasyidah Che Rosli said some smaller taxpayers have joined the e-invoicing system voluntarily ahead of their mandatory dates. GEORGE TOWN: The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has validated more than 328 million e-invoices since the country began its move towards a digital tax system last year. LHDN's e-invoicing director Rasyidah Che Rosli said the numbers came from about 35,000 taxpayers who submitted their records through the new system. Advertisement 'These are from users in Phases 1 and 2. Some smaller taxpayers have also joined voluntarily ahead of their mandatory dates,' she said, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event by CTOS in Bayan Lepas today. LHDN is phasing in e-invoicing by company size, with Phase 1, which started on Aug 1 last year, covering large businesses with annual sales of over RM100 million. Phase 2, which started on Jan 1, covers companies with sales of between RM25 million and RM100 million. Phase 3 (RM5 million-RM25 million turnover) starts on July 1 and Phase 4 (RM1 million-RM5 million) on Jan 1, 2026. The smallest firms (below RM1 million) will come on board by July 1, 2026. The e-invoicing system, part of the government's plan to improve tax compliance and reduce fraud, is meant to help LHDN keep a better record of business deals and make it easier for taxpayers to fill in their tax forms. E-invoices, which let businesses report sales immediately or on a monthly basis, are sent in real time or in monthly groups. The system can also handle self-billed e-invoices, such as for transactions with foreign suppliers or people who do not run businesses. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Zahid rejects ‘Sabah for Sabahans' slogan, urges unity with Putrajaya

Published on: Monday, May 12, 2025 Published on: Mon, May 12, 2025 By: Predeep Nambiar, FMT Text Size: SEBERANG PRAI: Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi ( pic ) says the 'Sabah for Sabahans' sentiment being promoted by certain quarters ahead of the upcoming state election is divisive. The deputy prime minister said it is also counterproductive as Sabah is a member of the federation, and maintaining a close relationship with Putrajaya is key to the state's prosperity and development. 'We want cooperation between parties at both the federal and state levels so that there are no 'Sabah for Sabahans' sentiments. After all, we are all Malaysians,' he told reporters after an event here today. Zahid said Umno wants to contest the seats it won in the previous Sabah state election, which he said is a prerequisite for talks on cooperating with the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah. He said while BN had 14 assemblymen, and GRS had 11 after the last state election in 2020, GRS now has 42 as a result of party hopping. It was previously reported that Sabah BN was eyeing 38 seats in the state assembly. Last Friday, the unity government coalition secretariat announced that Pakatan Harapan and BN had agreed to work together for the state election. In response, GRS chairman Hajiji Noor said the ruling coalition was ready to contest solo and focus on working with other local parties. He said GRS had consistently held that local Sabah parties should be the backbone of the state government as they have a better understanding of the realities, cultures and needs of Sabahans. - FMT * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Penang rolls out automated parking fines

Published on: Thursday, April 24, 2025 Published on: Thu, Apr 24, 2025 By: Predeep Nambiar, FMT Text Size: Automated parking enforcement is projected to reduce operating costs and patrol unit manpower needs by 60%. GEORGE TOWN: Penang has begun using an automated number plate recognition (ANPR) system to issue parking fines, effective today. The system scans number plates to detect unpaid parking fees in real-time and issues compounds without requiring officers to be physically present. Notifications are sent directly to motorists via the Penang Smart Parking app, the sole platform for parking payments at council lots. State local government, town and country planning committee chairman H'ng Mooi Lye said the upgrade meant faster, smarter enforcement with fewer errors. 'This isn't just a tech upgrade. It is (a shift in) how we manage urban parking with smart enforcement, full digitalisation, and a commitment to the environment with fewer paper compounds,' he told reporters at the Seberang Perai City Council. Penang's local councils – the Penang Island City Council and the Seberang Perai City Council – will operate five ANPR units each. Using optical character recognition, the ANPR system cross-checks number plates with the road transport department (JPJ) database. If a vehicle is found to be parked illegally or without payment, H'ng said a fine would be instantly issued, with the owner's details pulled directly from JPJ records. He said the move would lower operating costs and potentially reduce manpower needs per patrol unit by 60%. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
