Royal Ascot trainer blasts 'worst ride' from jockey making debut at meeting

Jerome Raynier was not happy with Flavien Prat's effort on Facteur Cheval after the globetrotter weakened out of the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot won by John and Thady Gosden runner Ombudsman A trainer has complained about the 'worst ride' from a top jockey who was making his debut at Royal Ascot. Flavien Prat flew over from America to team up with Facteur Cheval in the £1million Prince of Wales's Stakes on Wednesday. The 25-1 shot finished sixth of eight behind impressive winner Ombudsman, a horse continuing an excellent week for father and son team John and Thady Gosden. ‌ While there were celebrations for the Newmarket stable, French handler Jerome Reynier was dissatisfied with Prat's effort on Facteur Cheval after the earner of almost £4million of prize money ran out of puff in the straight. ‌ From a midfield position the six-year-old gelding made good headway three furlongs from the finish and held a slight lead before he weakened right out of contention to be beaten eight-and-a-quarter lengths. The 1m 2f was the furthest distance Facteur Cheval had tried and Reynier claimed Prat, who has ridden 1,995 winners in his home country, gave him little chance. READ MORE: Mirror watches as Royal Ascot punters stopped by drug sniffer dogs The trainer fumed: "He (the horse) has come out of the race well, despite his jockey doing absolutely nothing to help him. I think it was perhaps the worst ride given to one of my horses since I became a trainer. "In a race with loads of pace, he elected to lead the chase (behind pacemaker Continuous). He was the first to commit on the turn for home and launched his attack three wide with no cover and too far out." Before the race Prat was described "as brilliant a turf rider as any of us have ever seen over here" by Team Valor International chief Barry Irwin, who own the 2024 Meydan Dubai Turf hero with Gary Barber. ‌ Facteur Cheval picked up just over £14,000 for connections in a race which had top three prizes of £599,708, £227,362.50 and £113,787. Via the Racing Post, Reynier added: "Flavien thought he was at Santa Anita or Del Mar where they have short straights and the tracks are flat. "And I don't think it was a judicious move to use a jockey who rides in that style. It was just a terrible ride." Born in France, Prat has lived in America since 2015, where he has ridden top horses like Breeders Cup Classic hero Flightline and Hot Rod Charlie, the winner of the Pennsylvania Derby. He took another ride for George Weaver's US stable after partnering Facteur Cheval, when Tough Critic finished 11th of the 23 that set out in the Windsor Castle Stakes won by Eve Johnson Houghton-saddled Havana Hurricane.

French handler Jerome Reynier was absolutely furious with US-based jockey Flavien Prat's effort on Facteur Cheval in Wednesday's Group 1 Prince of Wales's Stakes. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Flavien Prat has won over £100million in his career but was slated for a 'terrible' ride by a furious trainer at Royal Ascot Credit: AP 2 Facteur Cheval was up with the red-hot pace early on - a move that proved costly as he ran out of gas and finished only sixth The six-year-old gelding, who has won almost £4million in his brilliant career, was sent off 25-1 for the 1m2f contest. But his trainer believed those odds were nowhere near a true reflection of his ability. And he clearly thought that the horse had a chance if Prat followed his instructions. However, that all appeared to go out the window early when Facteur Cheval chased breakneck 100-1 pace-setter Continuous. Facteur Cheval was later dropped back but unsurprisingly ran out of gas and finished a limp sixth of eight behind superstar winner Ombudsman. Reynier, still seething when speaking to the media days later, hit out at Prat's tactics - which, despite the disastrous effort, still netted the horse's owners £14,000. REVEAL GENOMICS and Ona Therapeutics Join Forces to Advance Next-generation Cancer Treatment

BARCELONA, Spain--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apr 14, 2025-- REVEAL GENOMICS and Ona Therapeutics today announced a strategic collaboration aimed at accelerating the clinical development of ONA-255, a next-generation ADC designed to enhance the precision and efficacy of cancer treatment across multiple tumor types. This press release features multimedia. View the full release here: ONA-255 is positioned to be a first-in-class molecule against a novel ADC target present in multiple, prevalent solid tumor types. Ona has privileged insight of the target as a hallmark of molecular adaptation in advanced diseases and its unique function as a universal driver of resistance to various therapies. ONA-255 is an ADC tailor-made to match the design of the molecule to the extraordinary biology of the target to deliver exceptionally potent drug against recalcitrant tumors, especially resistant clones for deeper and more durable responses. At the heart of this collaboration is Dr. Aleix Prat, Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of REVEAL GENOMICS. A globally recognized expert in precision oncology and drug development, Dr. Prat played a key role in identifying the ONA-255 drug target and generating, in collaboration with Ona Therapeutics and Dr. Roger Gomis, the critical preclinical data necessary for its clinical advancement. He also serves as the head of Ona Therapeutics' advisory board. As a leader in genomic innovation, REVEAL GENOMICS will conduct a comprehensive molecular analysis of tumor and blood samples from the ONA-255 phase 1-2 clinical trial as part of this strategic collaboration. Leveraging proprietary technologies and advanced computational algorithms, the company will decode key molecular and genomic biomarkers to reveal insights into tumor biology, the immune microenvironment, and response mechanisms to ONA-255. This pioneering work will help define patient populations, identify predictive biomarkers, and deepen the understanding of ONA-255's mechanism of action—accelerating its clinical development and opening new therapeutic avenues. To advance this partnership, Ona Therapeutics—working in collaboration with the U.S. subsidiary of REVEAL GENOMICS—has been awarded a grant from CDTI ( Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico y la Innovación ), a public entity under the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities that promotes technological innovation and development. The grant is funded by the Plan de Recuperación, Transformación y Resiliencia – Funded by the European Union NextGenerationEU. Valerie Vanhooren, Co-Founder and CEO of Ona Therapeutics, added, " ADCs have transformed cancer treatment; however, the technology has been applied to a limited number of tumor targets. These limitations restrict the number of patients who can benefit from treatments and highlight the critical need to identify new broadly expressed tumor targets. Ona's tailor-designed ADCs have the potential to define new treatment paradigms and patient populations, resulting in a clear benefit for patients with cancer. This partnership with REVEAL GENOMICS combines Ona's ADC experience with cutting-edge diagnosticswith the goal to transform the treatment landscape for aggressive solid tumors.' Patricia Villagrasa, Co-Founder and CEO of REVEAL GENOMICS, stated, " Ona Therapeutics is at the forefront of developing next-generation cancer therapies. This collaboration marks a key milestone in combining advanced diagnostics with innovative treatments, reinforcing the strategic value of integrating biomarker science early in drug development. It also underscores REVEAL GENOMICS's leadership in driving biomarker strategy and our commitment to shaping new business models that bring precision oncology closer to patients.'
