Railway worker dies, 4 hurt as train hits trolley
Patna: A railway worker was killed and four others were seriously injured when the Dibrugarh-bound Awadh Assam Express (15910) collided with a track inspection trolley near Maharani village, between Kadhagola and Semapur railway stations, around 2.20pm on Friday. The site falls on the Barauni-Katihar section under the Sonepur division of East Central Railway (ECR). The deceased was identified as Pramod Kumar. The four other railway workers injured in the crash were taken to Katihar hospital where their condition was stated to be stable, Sonepur divisional railway manager (DRM) Vivek Bhushan Sood. "The incident is deeply saddening. We are in touch with the families of those affected and are extending every possible support. A high-level inquiry will be conducted to determine the cause of the accident," Sood said. According to initial information, the collision occurred when the express train struck the trolley from behind while it was moving slowly on the track. Preliminary findings indicated that the team had been engaged in track maintenance and safety-related duties at the time of the incident. A team has been constituted to investigate the incident with the inquiry focusing on whether technical failures or procedural lapses contributed to the mishap. Senior railway officials are also reviewing CCTV footage from nearby stations to reconstruct the events leading up to the collision, said officials from the Sonepur and Katihar divisions. Sood said the railways had sanctioned funeral allowances in accordance with the rules and had prioritised the process for ex gratia payments and compensation for the bereaved and injured.

Two autistic brothers ‘sexually abused' by staffer at special school in Dehradun
Two autistic minor boys were allegedly assaulted and raped by a staffer at a school for children with special needs in Dehradun, police said. According to Superintendent of Police (City) Pramod Kumar, the two minor boys were admitted to the facility by their mother. When she visited them last week, they confided in her that the staffer, identified as Monupal (29) from Uttar Pradesh, was allegedly physically and sexually assaulting them. 'The complainant, their mother, submitted a written complaint, stating that her two differently abled children were physically assaulted and sexually abused by their warden. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,' the SP said. The social welfare department is now looking into the activities of the special school. 'The tutors there are recognised with relevant diplomas. The facility was opened recently,' Kumar said. The children were sent for a medical examination, and the Child Welfare Committee has been informed. To facilitate communication with the children, the police arranged for a specialist/translator, he said. 'The statements of the children and their mother have been taken down by the police,' Kumar said. Police said that CCTV footage and digital video recorders related to the incident have been seized and 'necessary evidence' collected. 'Beaten, burnt with cigarettes': Autistic siblings subjected to rape and torture at Dehradun boarding school
Two autistic brothers, aged 9 and 13, from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, were reportedly abused at a boarding school for special needs children in Dehradun. The boys were allegedly beaten, burnt with cigarettes, and raped by a staff member after they were admitted in April. The truth came out when their mother visited them last Friday. She took them to a friend's office, where the boys broke down and shared what had happened to them. They named the accused as Monu Pal, 29, from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. The mother filed a complaint with the local police. The accused was arrested and sent to jail. Police spoke to the two boys with help from translators from the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), and support from the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR). Live Events CCTV footage from the boarding house has been taken as evidence. The police are also trying to contact the families of the other two children who lived with the victims. Chairperson of the SCPCR Geeta Khanna said the boarding house had four children with autism sleeping on bunk beds in the same room as the accused. The facility was being run without a legal permit by a woman who also operated a prep school for special children nearby. That school had 15 students, and four of them stayed in the boarding house. The trust running the school was registered in Delhi but had not informed the local authorities. According to Khanna, the accused was hired on 16 May and began abusing the children soon after. The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities are working to ensure the safety of all children involved.
