He inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple developmental projects worth over Rs 5,700 crore during his visit to Siwan in Bihar. The Prime Minister flagged off the Vande Bharat Express train that will connect Pataliputra in Bihar with Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, via Muzaffarpur and Bettiah. Further giving a boost to railway infrastructure in the region, PM Modi also inaugurated the new Vaishali-Deoria railway line project worth over Rs 400 crore, besides flagging off a new train service on this route. Today I am very happy to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth thousands of crores of rupees from Siwan,' he wrote in a post on X. One of the major highlights of the event was the handing over of house keys to PMAY beneficiaries by the Prime Minister. PM Modi released the first instalment of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban (PMAY-U) at the public gathering in Siwan and handed over keys to a few beneficiaries to mark the Grih Pravesh Ceremony of more than 6,600 completed houses of PMAY-U. He also flagged off a state-of-the-art locomotive built at the Marhowra Plant, for export to the Republic of Guinea, under the 'Make in India' initiative. This is the first export locomotive manufactured in this factory. PM Modi addressed the gathering and made an instant connect with the crowd as he made an appealing statement in the local language, 'Raua.. Sab logon ke pranam karta hi (You people.... I greet you all present here)". PM Modi was accompanied on the stage by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Deputy CMs, leaders of NDA allies and other party veterans of the BJP state unit. PM to announce projects worth ₹5,000 crore in Bihar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to announce key infrastructure projects worth ₹5,000 crore for Bihar on his visit to Siwan on Friday, people familiar with the matter said, adding that the PM will also release ₹510 crore as the first installment of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban (PMAY-U) to 51,000 beneficiaries. The PM, on his 51st visit to the state since taking office, is also scheduled to address a rally in Siwan, once a stronghold of the Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Mohammad Shahabuddin, which has a sizeable Muslim, Dalit and Yadav population. 'The NDA government has ensured budgetary allocations for the state to fund a network of roads, railway lines, airports and avenues for employment and entrepreneurship,' a BJP functionary said requesting anonymity. According to Bihar deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary, the PM's latest tour is 'the second in only 20 days and the fifth this year', in an indication that the eastern province was high on the priority of the government. 'Altogether 22 projects worth ₹5,736 crore will be inaugurated on the soil of Siwan tomorrow when the PM will also disburse an amount of more than ₹51,000 crore towards the first installment of PM Awas Yojana to 53,666 homeless people. In addition, 6,684 urban poor families will get the keys to their new houses', said Choudhary, a former state unit president of the BJP. He added, 'the PM will also flag off a new Vande Bharat train which will run between Pataliputra junction near Patna and Gorakhpur in adjoining Uttar Pradesh. Modi will also inaugurate the new Vaishali-Deoria railway line besides laying the foundation stone for 11 projects of the Amrit Bharat scheme and another four under the Namami Gange Pariyojana'. Among the projects that the PM will lay the foundation stone for, include the ₹69-crore Bettiah Water Supply Project in West Champaran; the ₹19-crore Chapra Water Supply Project in Saran; the Motihari Sewarage Management Project in East Champaranthat which is pegged at ₹400 crore; the ₹138-crore Ara Water Supply Project in Bhojpur and a 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capacity in 15 grid substations in Bihar with Viability Gap Funding of ₹135 crore. He will also inaugurate a sewage treatment plant and sewage network facilities in Digha Zone and Kankarbagh Zones of Patna; a 29-km Rail Line between Vaishali and Deoria and flag off the Vande Bharat Train between Patliputra and Gorakhpur in addition to inaugurating the first export locomotive to Guinea from Locomotive Factory in Marhowra in Saran. Party leaders said that the PM's visit to the poll-bound state is expected to bolster the NDA's election campaign that will be hoisted on the planks of development and social justice. 'The NDA is a formidable force in the state, and we have two popular leaders, PM Modi and Chief minister Nitish Kumar. The opposition's alliance on the other hand is shaky, they lack leaders and their agenda is unclear. They corner the BJP on social justice, but are unable to point out how the RJD (when it was in power) worked for the empowerment of the people,' said the party functionary cited in the first instance. In 2020, the BJP won 71 of the 110 seats it contested in the 243-member assembly. With PTI inputs

Varanasi: 608 beneficiaries receive high-tech, luxury housing under PMAY-U

Varanasi: In a significant milestone under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U), 608 beneficiaries in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency Varanasi have been allotted high-tech, luxury-style homes. The project, inaugurated by the Prime Minister in 2015, marks the first time that such advanced housing facilities have been made available to economically weaker sections under the PMAY-U scheme. These residences come equipped with amenities typically found in premium housing projects—sewage treatment plants, solar-powered lighting, parks, gyms, and 24x7 CCTV surveillance. The housing colony features a 30-foot-wide main road, ensuring smooth vehicular movement and connectivity. The allotment of homes was done without discrimination, with both Hindu and Muslim families among the beneficiaries. "This initiative demonstrates that when political will is combined with modern infrastructure, even the poorest sections of society can enjoy a quality lifestyle," builder Ram Gopal Singh said. "We didn't just build houses; we created an ecosystem where people can live with dignity. Facilities like a gym, solar plant, sewage treatment, and open spaces reflect this vision. There's even a local 'Pradhan' to oversee maintenance and safety," he said. Elaborating on the cost-sharing model behind the project, he said: "Each unit cost about Rs 4 lakh. Beneficiaries paid just Rs 2 lakh, while the remaining cost was subsidised - over Rs 1 lakh from the state government and Rs 1.5 lakh from the Central government. On the market, such homes would cost at least Rs 10 lakh." Beneficiaries expressed overwhelming gratitude for the opportunity to IANS. Shabnam Parveen, a new homeowner, said, 'I never thought I could afford a home here. Now I have a roof over my head, and I'm truly happy.' Another resident, Pradeep Singh, praised the quality of life the new colony offers. "There are parks for children, solar lights, clean roads, and a gym. It feels like a dream," he told IANS. Shobhnath Pandey, also a beneficiary, added: "We have received excellent homes under this scheme. We're thankful to the government for making this possible." The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban, a flagship mission of the Centre under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), was launched on June 25, 2015. It aims to address the urban housing shortage among Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Low-Income Groups (LIG), and Middle-Income Groups (MIG), including slum dwellers, by providing them with permanent housing. Recently, the government has launched PMAY-U 2.0. As of March 2025, under PMAY-U 2.0, the first Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee meeting approved over 3.52 lakh homes across 10 states and Union Territories, reinforcing the government's commitment to inclusive urban development.
