Man, 22, dies after motorcycle collides head-on with truck towing boat
POWAY, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A motorcyclist is dead after a head-on crash on State Route 67 in Poway Saturday morning. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department reports a 22-year-old man died at State Route 67 and Ellie Lane in the City of Poway after his motorcycle collided head-on with a Ford truck towing a boat around 11:45 a.m. Saturday. Motorcyclist, 20, injured in collision with SUV Poway Fire and paramedics performed life-saving measures, but the motorcyclist died at the scene, according to the sheriff's department. He has not yet been identified pending family notifications. Poway Station traffic investigators are investigating the crash and whether drugs and/or alcohol were a factor. 2 arrested at DUI checkpoint in North County
POWAY, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Two people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence at a checkpoint in Poway on Friday night, authorities said. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, deputies conducted the roadblock in the 12700 block of Poway Road into the night. A total of 484 vehicles traveled into the checkpoint and authorities said 31 motorists were sent for a secondary evaluation. DUI patrol, seat belt enforcement ramped up ahead of Memorial Day Seven drivers conducted field sobriety tests, though only two were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, the sheriff's office confirmed. Additionally, six drivers were cited for driving without a license or with a suspended license, another seven were cited for not having their driver license in their possession, and one driver was cited for a traffic signal violation. 'DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes,' authorities noted in a press release. 'The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.' Funding for this checkpoint is provided to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
