Brit mum in car chase & thrown in JAIL in Turkey after smashing hotel shower while celebrating boyfriend's new teeth

A BRITISH mum says she has been "trapped" in Turkey for almost seven weeks after smashing a hotel shower screen on a drunken night out. Georgia Harrison, 32, claims hotel staff chased her to the airport before she was arrested and stung with a £15,000 bill. 4 The cleaner, from Rochdale, Greater Manchester, admitted she had made the "worst mistake of my life" but said she needs to get back home to be with daughter Poppy, 12. Georgia and partner Arron Tighe, 32, flew to Antalya on May 2 and were due to leave on May 7. But as they celebrated Arron's new veneers, Georgia downed vodka and cocktails before accidentally shattering a glass screen in the hotel bathroom. She thinks the booze mixed with prescribed antipsychotic medication caused her to black out. Georgia told The Sun: "I don't even remember it but I smashed the screen." Panicked, the couple left the Lexia Hotel the following morning and got a cab to the airport to fly back to the UK. Georgia said their taxi was blocked in by three cars before the worried cab driver called the police, who then arrested them. A hellish ordeal then began as they were put in a prison cell and questioned without a lawyer. The mum-of-one said she refused to answer questions until she had a British-speaking lawyer, which led to her being accused of resisting arrest. Georgia was then hauled into court after being left in a "court cell with 300 men" and was banned from leaving the country until she coughs up £15,000 for the hotel. She said: "I'm trapped, I don't have £15,000. "I've paid my lawyer, paid for hotels, I've paid for my rent back home. I've tried loads of ways to get out but I'm getting nowhere. I'm at a brick wall. "I know I've done wrong but it's killing me. I need to get home for my daughter. She rings me and asks when I'm coming home. It's heartbreaking. "There's nothing I can do to change it, it's horrible." Georgia has been in contact with the British Embassy in Turkey, which told her they are unable to help lift the travel ban. But in fear of indefinitely being held, Georgia has tried other means of leaving the country including trying to get a boat to Greece. Each time, a passport check has stopped her. She added: "I need to get home to my child now. 4 "My lawyer said to wait until it goes to trial, but it's waiting until then. We have no idea when they could be. "I can't afford to keep living here. I've sat in silence for more than six weeks but I've suffered and nothing's changing." Her sister has set up a GoFundMe page in a bid to raise £9,000 to help get the mum back to the UK. Georgia said: "I can't even click on it because I'm so ashamed. "But I don't know what else to do. "My lawyer sent a surveyor to the hotel who said the damage is worth no more than £1,000 and that's with labour. "My lawyer offered £3,000 to settle but they've refused it. "I just want to get home."

Despite losing her job in 2020, Poppy has since skyrocketed to fame, even cooking alongside Jamie Oliver and featuring on his latest Channel 4 programme, Jamie's Air Fryer Meals. ‌ Poppy, a self-confessed 'carbie', is famous for her quick and uncomplicated meals, often utilising an air fryer for most of her recipes. ‌ In her most recent viral TikTok video, the social media star, known as Poppy Cooks, shows how to incorporate McCain's new Air Fryer Fries into dishes. She prepares coconut prawns with bang bang sauce served on a bed of chips - a dish that takes merely 10 minutes to prepare and five minutes to cook. Ingredients 150g raw king prawns Three tablespoons of plain flour One teaspoon of garlic granules One teaspoon of onion granules One teaspoon of cayenne pepper One teaspoon of dried basil Half a teaspoon of chilli flakes Salt and pepper Two eggs 75g of desiccated coconut 75g of panko breadcrumbs 75g of mayonnaise One tablespoon of sweet chilli sauce One teaspoon of hot chilli sauce One lime, zested 1/2 juiced 200g of tenderstem broccoli Two spring onions - sliced for garnish One sliced red chill 250g of McCain Air Fryer Quick Crispy French Fries Method Step 1: Start by preheating the air fryer to 200C. In a large bowl, mix the plain flour, salt and pepper. In a separate dish, combine the egg with the dried herbs and spices. Season the egg mixture well with salt and pepper then set it aside. In another large bowl or dish, blend the panko breadcrumbs and desiccated coconut, reports the Express. Step 2: Pop the prawns into the mixing bowl and cover them in flour before dipping them into the spiced egg mixture. Shake off any surplus egg and, using your mitts, transfer them to the bowl of panko and coconut. Press the coconut onto the prawns to ensure it sticks. ‌ Step 3: Shift the prawns into the air fryer basket and spritz them with oil. Air fry for 4-5 minutes until the coconut and panko are toasted on the outside and the prawns are cooked, flipping them halfway through. Step 4: Whilst the prawns are cooking, drizzle the tenderstem broccoli with oil, salt and pepper and air fry for five minutes. Step 5: As you load the prawns into the air fryer, pour the McCain Air Fryer French Fries into the other basket and cook for five minutes, giving them a shake halfway through. This recipe is spot on as everything cooks at the same time! ‌ Step 6: While everything is in the air fryer, mix the lime zest and juice, mayonnaise and chilli sauces in a small bowl. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Step 7: Serve up the prawns, tenderstem broccoli and the McCain Air Fryer French Fries with a generous dollop of the spicy bang bang mayo and a sprinkle of sliced spring onions and chopped chilli. Poppy, discussing the recipe, stated: "I can't control my excitement because McCain has launched a new air fryer range, including these fries that take five minutes. The fries that not only taste fantastic (if I do say so myself) but also cook in a matter of minutes. "To celebrate the launch, I created six unique recipes designed specifically for the air fryer, that can be whipped up in no time at all, guaranteed to elevate your weeknight dinners!" 'We were best friends — until we went on holiday together'

Before going travelling together, Sophie* and Poppy* were best friends. The pair knew everything that was going on with the other, and would voice note daily. But a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Vietnam changed all that, and the pair haven't spoken since. 'I haven't really thought about reaching out to her,' Sophie tells Metro. Half of Brits have argued with friends abroad, with 16% saying tensions got so bad, they lost the friendship entirely as a result. So relatable is the beach bust-up, that 24-year-old Aussie Katie Treasure posted a four-part TikTok series revealing the questions you should ask friends before travelling together, based on her own experience of travelling and living abroad. From 'What time are we waking up?' to 'How are we going to split the costs?' – the questions are caveated with a firm warning from Katie: 'Just because you're good friends with someone does not mean you travel well together.' Fuel your wanderlust with our curated newsletter of travel deals, guides and inspiration. Sign up here. This was the sad realisation for Sophie and Poppy, both 22, who took a trip around southeast Asia together, starting in June 2023. They didn't have a definite return date but expected to be away for most of the summer. Before going travelling together, Sophie and Poppy had been best friends for years. 'We knew the ins and outs of what was going on in our minds and were so up to date with each other's lives,' Sophie says. But after the first few days hotel-hopping around Vietnam, Sophie noticed the pair had entirely different intentions for their trip, and as a result, she started to get 'the ick'. While Poppy threw herself into meeting new people with a 'punchy, fun energy', Sophie was more reserved and preferred more 'spontaneous, meaningful conversations'. Sophie says the social clashes brought out the worst in each other, and Sophie ended up in Poppy's shadow. There was also a mismatch of financial flexibility between the friends. While Sophie embodied a 'you get this, I'll get that' approach to spending, Poppy wasn't as easy-going. 'There was one time when we were in a group of new people we just met when Poppy asked me to pay the bill for her because I 'owed' her money. It was really quite awkward,' Sophie says. The friends also experienced itinerary squabbles. While Poppy wanted to go on group tours and sight-see as much as possible, Sophie enjoyed a more casual, relaxed approach to exploring a new area. Everything came to a head after just two weeks when the pair decided to go their separate ways. While there was no big bust-up, Poppy was the one who addressed the elephant in the room. They agreed that neither of them was enjoying the other's company and decided to continue their travels separately. Sophie is 'glad it worked out that way' as she had a 'much more enjoyable experience' travelling alone. Despite the break-up being civil, Sophie and Poppy haven't spoken since. 'Some of the things she said really hurt me,' says Sophie. Once friends have decided to go on holiday together, it's important that discuss what they want out of the trip as soon as possible. Relationship therapist Nicolas Rose tells Metro: 'For some people, travelling is a time of freedom where they want to make new connections and see new things and have new experiences. Whereas for others it can be about withdrawing and time to themselves.' In Sophie and Poppy's case, they didn't realise until they were in Vietnam just how different their intentions were. Friends should discuss the potential financial, lifestyle and personality clashes that might arise during the trip. Psychologist and friendship expert, Irene S. Levine says: 'You need to be alert to large economic disparities, different travel styles, different energy levels, and different sleep patterns and be proactive to make sure they don't turn into incompatibilities'. Another thing friends can do is set boundaries around how much alone time they might need throughout the trip.' 'If you both want to see different attractions or do different things, will you both feel comfortable doing them alone?' Irene adds. But planning ahead isn't always a surefire way to avoid problems. Lucy*, 28, recently went travelling to Mexico with her close friend, Freya*. The pair planned to stay out there until they ran out of money. Before they left, Freya asked Lucy if they could meet up with one of her old school friends, *Paige, who would be in Mexico at the same time as them. At first, Lucy felt anxious that this would result in her feeling 'left out'. She voiced her concerns to Freya, who assured Lucy that this was just a brief catch-up and they'd continue on travelling as a pair. But when Paige joined the duo for one night in their hostel, one night became two and soon enough she became part of the clan. Lucy's doubts materialised and for the next two weeks, she felt like the 'third-wheel' in Freya and Paige's friendship. 'I just became really conscious that I was the odd one out,' Lucy tells Metro. 'I struggled to engage with them as easily as they were engaging with each other.' Fellow backpackers even noticed the imbalance of interaction between the trio, and pointed it out to Lucy at the time. This made Lucy feel worse, even embarrassed, about the less-than-ideal situation. Nicholas encourages travelling pals to carve out time for a 'bi-weekly check-in', with the intention to openly discuss how the trip is going. Whether it's over a cocktail at sunset, or an early-morning stroll, both friends should commit to regularly making sure they're on the same wavelength. This creates an open space for communication, where both parties can get things off their chest. More Trending Awkward? Perhaps a little. But your other option is potentially losing a friendship forever. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Lucy had to fly home early, so didn't get the opportunity to resolve this issue with Freya – who stayed in Mexico travelling. All things considered, Lucy feels their friendship will never be as strong as it once was. 'Even if I was able to stay out travelling, I would've left after a month or so,' Lucy reflects. 'I wasn't having a good time at all after Paige joined us. Freya really let me down.' *Names have been changed. Do you have a story to share? Where was Erica during Rory's US Open meltdown? McIlroy's wife was notably absent during week of tense moments - after their divorce u-turn and a move to the UK

It appeared to be a joyless week of golf for Rory McIlroy at the US Open, with his temper boiling over several times as his worrying run of post-Masters form continued. In one tense moment with the press, the 36-year-old, who had snubbed his recent media duties, indicated his 'frustration with you guys', saying that he feels 'the right to do whatever I want to do' when it comes to interview availability after rounds. Then on Friday, the golfer hurled his club 30 yards following a disappointing play and then, five holes later, smashed up a tee marker in anger. His frustrating performance likely wasn't helped by his wife Erica Stoll's absence. The New York native wasn't publicly seen supporting her Northern Irish husband at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. The lack of cheering-on from the sideline was in stark contrast to the family's show of support at Rory's triumphant journey at the Masters. Erica and her partner put on a united front with their four-year-old daughter Poppy as the golf star slayed his demons at Augusta National to complete the career Grand Slam after 11 years of trying in April. But during this championship, Erica and her daughter were likely preparing for the family's move from Jupiter, Florida, to their newly built home in Surrey, England, after it was reported that the golfer would officially move to the UK after the US Open. The major change comes after a turbulent year off the course for Rory; in May 2024, the sportsman filed to divorce Erica. A month later, he called off the split, announcing the couple had 'resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning'. Friends reportedly suggested the real reasons driving the reconciliation were Rory's fears over paying out a huge chunk of his £200million fortune to lawyers and his inability to 'be on his own for more than five minutes'. A petition was served on Erica at their £10million mansion in Jupiter, Florida, on May 13, asking for shared parental custody of their little girl and for a judge to enforce a pre-nuptial agreement the couple signed prior to their marriage in 2017. There was then speculation of a potential romance with CBS sports reporter Amanda Balionis after the pair appeared to enjoy a strong rapport during a flirtatious interview at the Wells Fargo Championship. Rumours circulated that she and Rory had been having some form of a relationship while they were both out on tour. None of these rumours have been proven and neither Amanda nor Rory have outright addressed them. But just a month after filing for divorce, with the golf world still reeling from news of the split, came an equally unexpected twist as it emerged Rory and Erica had reconciled their differences, with the divorce petition voluntarily dismissed. Rory's attorney Thomas Sasser filed a Notice of Voluntary Dismissal on his behalf on June 11 in Palm Beach County Courthouse after he and Erica reportedly held secret meetings at their Florida home for a month in a bid to salvage their marriage. The meetings were initially focused on how they would co-parent their daughter Poppy, but the conversations eventually led to them reuniting, according to Irish outlet RSVP Live. Rory addressed the speculation surrounding his relationship status in a statement to The Guardian - two days before the opening round of the US Open. 'There have been rumors about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate. Responding to each rumor is a fool's game,' McIlroy said. 'Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.' One source close to the sportsman told The Daily Mail's Alison Boshoff in June 2024 that the real reason driving the reconciliation was that McIlroy 'can't be on his own for more than five minutes', adding that, quite simply, he 'needs the stability'. Another said he believes the multimillionaire golfer was told by his team that he had been too hasty in his divorce filing and should give his marriage 'another six months'. A source told U.S. Weekly in May that year that there were other issues, too. Apparently Erica had been feeling 'lonely' in the marriage as the couple were effectively leading separate lives. The source said: 'She knew what she was getting into with his profession, but once they had Poppy things really changed and she had a new perspective. Erica was usually absent for most of his tournaments and was really focused on Poppy.' But one of the reported 'tensions' in Rory's marriage to Erica is set to be resolved in the coming weeks - with the Masters champion set to make a major move. For the past few years, the McIlroys have been building a home in England near the Wentworth Club in Surrey. Now, the family is set to make that house a home - with the couple and their daughter set to officially move in after the US Open at Oakmont. Reports indicate the family will keep the house in Florida for when Rory is competing on the PGA Tour. Meanwhile, Erica's fondness for a more mild climate was touched on in the Netflix docuseries Full Swing when German golfer Martin Kaymer spoke with Rory about a time he bumped into the Irishman's better half. 'I saw her [Stoll] at a Starbucks once, and she said, 'I really don't like the sun.' I said, 'Your state's called the Sunshine State, right?'' Rory continued: 'If it was up to her [Stoll], she wouldn't move to England straightaway, but she definitely wants to spend more time there.' Meanwhile, the world No 2 spent much of last week seemingly looking like he would rather be anywhere else than at the US Open. The clearest signs of his frustrations came in two episodes on the back nine as he grinded his way to a 72, leaving him on six over par, one inside the projected cut line. The first of those flashpoints came on the 12th, when he hooked his second shot at the par five into deep rough and proceeded to send his iron cartwheeling up the fairway. The next outburst came at the 17th, when he took aim with a three wood and sliced into the greenside bunker. In his fury, he slammed his club against the tee marker and shattered it. In another tense moment at the US Open, Rory, who has come under fire for avoiding media after six consecutive major championship rounds, ended his silent run on Saturday and said he felt he earned the right to do as he pleases. PGA Tour players are not obliged to speak to the media after their rounds but for someone like world number two Rory, who has been the de facto spokesman of the US-based circuit in recent years, it has come to be expected. Following a four-over 74 that left well out of contention at Oakmont Country Club, Rory spoke to reporters and was asked if his drop in form since winning the Masters was why he decided to avoid the media outside of pre-tournament availabilities. 'No, not really. It's more a frustration with you guys,' McIlroy told reporters before being asked to elaborate. 'I'm just, yeah, I don't know. I have, I've been totally available for the last few years, and I'm not saying - maybe not you guys, but maybe more just the whole thing.' The golfer's silent stretch at the majors began at last month's PGA Championship where he declined to speak to the media after a poor first round and held firm after news of his driver failing a conformance test leaked during the second round. Rory said the leaked news was part of his decision to go silent but also reminded the assembled media that he walked by them without taking questions after his opening round of this year's Masters. 'It's not as if - it's not out of the ordinary. I've done it before; I'm just doing it a little more often,' said McIlroy. 'I feel like I've earned the right to do whatever I want to do, yeah.' The Northern Irishman knows the rules do not permit him to talk to media after he walks off the course and it was suggested that he was almost daring the PGA Tour to alter its rules on the matter. 'No, I'm not daring them to do anything. I hope they don't change it because... it's a nice luxury to have,' said McIlroy. 'But I'm just pointing out the fact that we have the ability to do it.' The five-times major champion, who like many top players struggled mightily at a treacherous Oakmont layout where some rounds have been well above five hours long, rallied to make the cut on Friday with little to lose. 'Yeah, it's funny, like it's much easier being on the cut line when you don't really care if you're here for the weekend or not,' said McIlroy. 'I was sort of thinking, do I really want two more days here or not. So it makes it easier to play better when you're in that mindset.' When Rory was asked what his expectations were for Sunday's final round he made it crystal clear that he is counting down the hours until he can get home. 'Hopefully a round in under four and a half hours and get out of here,' said the sportsman.
