2 status-symbol credit cards are getting new perks. Here's what $795 a year gets you with the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

Jet-setters and foodies rejoice: Two of the most popular credit cards for travelers and frequent diners are getting upgrades and new perks later this year. On Monday, American Express said updates are coming later this year to the US Consumer and Business Platinum Cards, which carry a $695 annual fee. It's unclear if a price hike will accompany the upgrades. AmEx said in a press release that it'll share more updates in the fall. The following day, JPMorgan Chase said an upgraded Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card was coming June 23. The price of the Sapphire Reserve card will go from $550 a year to $795 a year. It launched in 2016 with a $450 annual fee. The revamp will see new perks for cardholders in spending categories like travel, dining, and lifestyle. Travel perks Cardholders will get 8x points on Chase Travel for purchases like flights, hotels, and rental cars, and 4x points on bookings made directly with an airline or hotel. They'll also get up to $500 in credit towards The Edit, Chase's collection of hotels and resorts, and they can choose to activate complimentary IHG Platinum Elite status until December 21, 2027. The card will also retain its popular $300 annual travel credit. The new Points Boost feature means points are worth up to 2x their value on redemptions with thousands of hotels and flights with select airlines. Dining perks Cardholders will continue to earn 3x the points when dining. With the revamp, they'll also now get a credit of up to $300 annually for dining at restaurants that are part of the Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables program, which secures reservations for cardholders at "some of the most sought-after and hardest-to-book restaurants in major cities," Chase says. Lifestyle perks The new card includes a complimentary subscription to Apple TV+ and Apple Music, valued at $250 annually. Cardholders can also get up to $120 in annual statement credits toward Peloton memberships, and they earn 10x on eligible Peloton purchases, up to 50,000 points. Another new lifestyle perk is up to $300 in annual statement credits on entertainment tickets bought on StubHub and viagogo. All three of these new lifestyle perks require activation. The existing DoorDash perks, which have a total value of up to $420, and the existing Lyft perks, which have a total value of $120 and 5x total points, remain in place. Don't miss out — Last chance to earn up to 170,000 bonus points with an IHG credit card

Two IHG credit cards have limited-time offers — but they're ending soon! If you want to take advantage of generous offers on the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card and IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card, you'll have to do so before 9 a.m. EST on March 20, 2025. IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card: Earn 170,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 within the first three months IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card: Earn 100,000 bonus points after spending $2,000 within the first three months According to our valuations, a bonus of 170,000 IHG points is worth nearly $1,000, and a bonus of 100,000 IHG points is worth nearly $600. Why we like it: The IHG One Rewards Premier is our preferred option between the two cards because it has a low annual fee and increased benefits. Our favorite part about this card is that you get a free night award (worth up to 40,000 points) each anniversary year. Depending on how you use it, the free night benefit could easily offset your annual fee each year. Add in the value of other card benefits — including automatic Platinum Elite status, no foreign transaction fees, and receiving a fourth reward night free — and you have a powerhouse of a hotel credit card. Why we like it: The IHG One Rewards Traveler doesn't charge an annual fee, making it an easy, low-cost option if you would rather avoid card membership costs. However, you won't get as many benefits as the IHG One Rewards Premier. Still, this card doesn't charge foreign transaction fees, and you can also redeem points for a free fourth reward night when staying at an IHG hotel for four consecutive nights. Note that the fourth-night-free benefit is exclusive to IHG cardholders, and there's no limit on how many times you can use it each brands like Holiday Inn, Kimpton, and InterContinental and over 6,000 locations worldwide, IHG Hotels and Resorts offers plenty of options. Here are a few ways you can redeem IHG points and take advantage of the fourth-night-free benefit: A Holiday Inn Express stay within 12 minutes of driving distance — 25 to 30 if you take public transportation — to Disneyland Paris would cost 72,000 points. Plus, you'll get free breakfast every morning. InterContinental is an IHG luxury brand, so prices are often high. However, you can find great deals at many locations outside the U.S., including the Mediterranean island country of Malta. You could have a four-night stay at the InterContinental Malta for 133,000 points. With over 300 days of annual sunshine, Malta is a seagoer and sunbather's paradise. Looking for a domestic beach vacation? For our selected dates, a beachfront four-night stay at the Kimpton Vero Beach Hotel and Spa would cost 165,000 points. Not bad at all for a highly-rated beachfront property. The Carl Friedrik Carry-On Is a Very Nice Rolling Bag

With luggage, as with most things, luxury is relative. To some, it means you have a Travelpro Platinum Elite (it's got 'pro' and 'elite' right there in the name!), while for others if you're not rolling a Louis trunk, you're either doing the quiet luxury thing or you're a broke boy. I am a relative newcomer to the world of very nice luggage, having used a Tom Bihn Aeronaut 45 for the past decade until my boss informed me of the existence of Rimowa. It turns out I love Rimowa—I like the brand's luxe boho vibe and I love the way the aluminum shell picks up a little seasoning with every trip. But as someone who flies nearly every month of the year, I'm always looking to try a new contender. Carl Friedrik is a newish London-based luggage brand that makes bags with distinctive leather accents. Its full-sized suitcases suitable for checking run about $800, while a rolling carry-on is around $550. Depending your priors, these prices are likely to strike you as either very reasonable or borderline outrageous. I can say only that it's a very nice bag for transporting your belongings. Photograph: Martin Cizmar As Seen On Carl Friedrik was founded in 2012 by two Swedish brothers and its initial focus was on leather goods, specifically laptop bags and wallets. The rolling carry-on was introduced in the summer of 2019, just before a period of instability in the travel industry which some readers may recall. Carl Friedrik does most of its business direct-to-consumer, though you will see products on heavily curated retail sites like Huckberry. The brand's roots in leather goods are visible on the carry-on and the brand's other rolling luggage, thanks to its distinctive and handsome leather handles and a leather accent strip around the top of the case. Carl Frederik is the kind of brand that not only gets itself featured on Succession but uses the occasion to post an Instagram caption thinkpiece about quiet luxury. ("By its very nature, quiet luxury aesthetic rejects the vagaries of seasonal fashion, trusting instead in time-honoured design.") Niklas Mattis, who co-founded the brand with his brother, is focused on protecting the majestic but critically endangered Amur leopard. That is all to say that, yes, this brand is working diligently to curate a vibe. Successfully, I'd say. I've now used the Carl Frederik on three trips since December, having taken it to New York, New Mexico, and San Diego. It has yet to let me down, and despite being gate-checked on one occasion and being wheeled across a little desert scrubland in Santa Fe, the gray polycarbonate shell looks new. That stands in sharp contrast to aluminum suitcases from brands like Rimowa and Tumi which are designed to develop a patina.
