Bridgerton's Simone Ashley faces Hollywood erasure despite acting with Brad Pitt

Lead of Netflix's hit series Bridgerton, romantic lead of Picture This, and certified fan of the Formula One Grand Prix, Simone Ashley faces 'Hollywood erasure' after significant cut to role in F1 Arguably one of Netflix's biggest stars, Bridgerton actress Simone Ashley appears to be facing 'Hollywood erasure' as her newest role is reduced, despite being cast alongside Hollywood legend Brad Pitt. Apple Original Films' most recent venture, F1: The Movie, cast Bridgerton lead Simone Ashley, exciting fans of both the Netflix hit series and Formula one - since the actress is known to be a genuine fan of the sport. However, despite being spotted filming between several Grand Prix tracks, it's suggested that Ashley's role was cut to last only a few seconds. ‌ Fans who attended an advance screening of the film described Ashley's role to be a "brief cameo" rather than the significant representation we had hoped for, amongst a dominated cast of white leads. ‌ Ashley's reduction says it all about Hollywood attitudes to brown women and the lack of space for them as returning leads on our screens. A disappointment to fans worldwide, the marketing gaslighting of a community of women who have repeatedly been shunned from media representation has failed to land this time around, considering Simone's success in an age that still refuses to cast deep-tanned brown women as romantic protagonists. We can see this across every genre of Hollywood and TV - the Indian comedic-relief (Raj in The Big Bang Theory, Anwar in Skins, Karen in the 2024 Mean Girls adaptation) has been the only space for South Asians for decades... until we began to create our own. Simone Ashley is said to now be producing her own work to stay in work, working as both the romantic lead and executive producer in Amazon Prime's Picture This. But why must we create our own 'third space' in the first place? Audiences crave to see themselves on screen, so why are we recycling the same white, male leads that have clung to the cinematic stage for decades? Multi-million budget films clearly rely on diverse leads to create the necessary PR frenzy now needed for a project's success, only to edit out the person's effect in the final cut. This master plan that profits off a display of diversity in public, and slashes representation in practice, is a regressive eye-opener for many fans, and extremely harmful to the South Asian community that celebrates Simone's success and have suffered decades without true representation. F1 Director Reveals Why Simone Ashley's Scenes Had To Be Cut From The Film

The director of the new movie F1 has revealed that Simone Ashley's scenes have not made it into the finished film. Last year, it was revealed that the Bridgerton star would be playing a small role in F1, which also stars Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Damson Idris, Tobias Menzies and Kerry Condon. However, while People noted that Simone does briefly appear on screen during the sports drama, her lines have all been cut. Director Joseph Kosinski told the US outlet: 'It happens on every film, where you have to shoot more than you can use. 'There were two or three storylines that ultimately didn't make into the final cut.' Joseph quickly added that the former Sex Education star is an 'incredible talent', 'incredible actress' and 'incredible singer', and that he would 'love to work with her again'. Whether that feeling remains mutual after her scenes wound up on the cutting room floor remains to be seen… Simone recently told Elle that her part in F1 was a 'very small' one, but that she was still 'very grateful to be in that movie', describing the filming process as a 'crazy' experience. After initially rising to fame as part of Sex Education, Simone landed a leading role in the second season of Bridgerton as Kate Sharma, a role she reprised in the third and upcoming fourth seasons. She has since gone on to appear in Disney's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid (as Ariel's sister Indira) and the 2025 British rom-com Picture This. F1 stars Brad Pitt as a racing driver who achieved huge success in motor racing in the 1990s, but withdrew from the sport after a serious injury. He's then persuaded to return to the world of Formula One to mentor an up-and-coming star, played by Damson Idris. As well as the impressive cast, F1 also features appearances from a number of prolific stars within the racing world, including the UK's own Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris and George Russell. Simone Ashley Reveals Her Beauty Secret for When She ‘Can't Be Bothered'

Simone Ashley has had an eventful few years. Since her breakout role as Kate Sharma in season 2 of Bridgerton in 2022, the actress's career has exploded. This past March, Ashley starred alongside Hero Fiennes Tiffin in the romantic comedy Picture This, where she played a struggling photographer trying to balance her career and her love life. Now, she is switching gears—pun intended—as she prepares for the highly anticipated release of F1, a sports action movie about two Formula 1 drivers, set to release this summer. Even with such a busy schedule, Ashley manages to show up on every red carpet looking flawless. This year's Cannes Film Festival was no different. She arrived, styled in a white Vivienne Westwood gown, for the premiere of The Mastermind. At the festival, Ashley also acted as a spokesperson for L'Oréal Paris's Lights on Women's Worth Awards, her second year as an ambassador for the program. Below, ELLE caught up with Ashley for a few minutes after her red carpet appearances to talk skin care, Cannes glam, and her go-to beauty rituals. I exfoliate a few times a week, hydrate, drink lots of water, moisturize, and try not to stress. A moisturizer! Actually, I don't really make much of an effort when I'm not working. I can't really be bothered. I just put my sunglasses on. Exfoliating. That works for me, though. I think everything is personal and subjective for different people. For me personally, it's [exfoliating] and rest. I am so lucky to have my team here with me. Alex Babsky, my makeup artist, always makes me feel so confident in myself. Stephane [Lancien], who's been doing my hair—he's just amazing. That was crazy. I have a very small part, but I'm grateful to be in that movie. I got to experience many Grands Prix. I don't think I'll ever do anything like that again. It's an honor. I feel very proud. At the awards dinner, Viola [Davis] did a speech. I'm so grateful that she's an ambassador for this brand. Though I'm inspired by everyone, seeing Viola made me feel so seen, like I am capable of doing it. This interview has been condensed and edited for clarity.

Picture This frontman can't wait to see Oasis live as the Irish band hit the road

Back with a new EP and set to tour Ireland, Picture This star Ryan Hennessy is also bracing himself for the Oasis live experience. He was too young to see his idols the first time around, so Picture This star Ryan Hennessy is bracing himself for the experience of his life when Oasis come to town in August. Back with a new EP and set to tour Ireland, the Picture This frontman tells Magazine+ that he understands his own band's appeal to fans because he's a 'superfan' himself. 'For us it's always just naturally been about the fans, I think because we're such big fans of music ourselves,' Ryan says. 'I love being a fan of things, I'm a huge Man United fan, I'm a huge Oasis fan, I'm super passionate about Leonard Cohen… people like that get me so excited.' Ryan, Jimmy, Owen and Cliff are releasing a new EP News in 90 Seconds - 6th June 2025 'I'm a super fan and I don't find it embarrassing. 'I'm sorted for a ticket for Oasis in Croke Park and it will be a huge moment for me because I've never seen them live. I was just too young to catch them and they mean everything to me and have meant everything to me since I can remember, and have informed so much of my life. 'It's going to be a crazy moment for me to see them on stage. I don't know how I'm going to feel, actually, seeing them. I've seen Liam and Noel separately playing their solo stuff and that alone is just so amazing to see. But the two of them standing on stage together is going to be an incredible moment.' Picture This lead singer Ryan Hennessy on stage at Belsonic I've been interviewing Picture This since the start of their career and have seen them navigate the often shark-infested waters of the music business… and live to tell the tale. Nearly 10 years down the line, frontman Hennessy, Jimmy Rainsford (drums), Owen Cardiff (guitar) and Cliff Dean (bass) are enjoying the self-assurance that comes with experience. 'We're leading an extraordinary life, but we're ordinary people and I used to be afraid of saying that. I think it was maybe an ego thing,' Ryan says. 'I didn't want people to think I was ordinary. I wanted people to think I was extraordinary, but the older I get and the more mature I get I realise that I'm just as ordinary as anybody else. 'I'm just very lucky that I lead an extraordinary life and very, very grateful that that's the case. But I like being grounded and on earth with the boys and not being away with the fairies.' Rainsford acknowledges how their wealth of experience has shaped the band. 'It's true that we're very experienced now, we know what we're doing, we have great trust in our team and our fans and we've never been happier creating music than we are today,' Jimmy says. Picture This 'We're always trying to up the stakes a little bit because that's what the fans expect. That's what I would expect from my favourite band anyway. 'I want to be challenged as a fan. I want to be told what to listen to and like and I want to be inspired.' Picture This have weathered many a storm throughout their career. 'Oh we have!' Jimmy says. 'We've had some big storms, the biggest one being the coronavirus. It was just a terrible time and our career was hanging in the balance. 'But in a way I feel kind of thankful for that happening because it really made us stop and realise what we have and how lucky we are. I probably subconsciously still think about that. 'To weather those storms and come back stronger was really important because this is all we do. We don't have any other hobbies.' Picture This will play all over Ireland this summer, coming to a town and city near you. 'It's that old-school approach,' Ryan says. 'We're from Kildare so we know how it feels to forgotten about or overlooked or passed through while people are on the way to Dublin. 'So instead of people travelling to see us, we're coming to see them in their home area.' Releasing today, their new EP, Let The Light In, which includes Let's Try Love and A Thousand Times, is a set of stripped down songs with their unique storytelling. 'It was just the four of us hanging out and playing songs together and they just ended up coming out in that more acoustic stripped style,' Jimmy reveals. 'There are no bells and whistles… just pure storytelling and pure heart and pure craic between four friends.' THE LOWDOWN: Picture This released their new EP, Let The Light In on Friday.
