Gabby Logan's blunt three word response to questions over pay on MOTD

Gabby Logan maintained a stern demeanour when asked if she was to receive the same salary as her predecessor Gary Lineker after she was confirmed as his replacement Gabby Logan's role as presenter of Match of the Day appears to have reignited the discussion over the gender pay gap within the BBC. Gabby, 52, who has been a recognised sports presenter for many years, is set to replace Gary Lineker after he stepped down from his coveted role on the BBC show in May. At the time, Gary was considered to be the highest paid star after securing an estimated salary of £1.35million a year. When speaking to The Times, Gabby was asked if she had also asked for the same salary. But her response was unexpected. She bluntly responded saying: "That's all sorted." ‌ And when asked if she could elaborate on her answer, her reply was even shorter. She said: "It's sorted." ‌ Gabby will be splitting her duties on Match of the Day and Match of the Day 2 with co-stars Mark Chapman and Kelly Cates. It has been reported that the presenters set up a secret WhatsApp group to discuss their takeover of the show and create more of a bond. But according to the Daily Mail, certain messages were deleted in a bid to avoid leaks. Despite presenting changes to the show, Gabby was keen to reiterate that the changes will not be huge. Speaking on the ainslie + ainslie Performance People podcast, she explained: "Nobody wants to throw the baby out with the bath water." She added: "It's a football highlights show, we've got the same kind of pundits… and it's all about the football. There are now so many great male and female broadcasters." ‌ She went on to explain: "But also, so many more females working in sports, not just in front of the camera or the microphone, but also behind the scenes. It's like any business, if you say we have a 50/50 male and female split but all the women are doing the low paid jobs, that's not 50/50, that's a hierarchy that's male-dominated." On concluding her point, she said: "It's been really good development to hear women's voices in your ears and hearing them say they're the director which is great. Hopefully it's a better environment than when we were starting out. It's definitely a much more positive place generally." ‌ In addition to her brief discussion of her new role with The Times , Gabby also opened up on her time on Strictly Come Dancing back in 2007. Her husband Kenny Logan also competed on the show and made it to the top five contestants. However, Gabby was unable to share the same glory as she was eliminated far sooner. She claimed that at the time she remembered crying into her sofa believing the public did not like her. ‌ She told The Times: "It was a harsh lesson, learning that sometimes not everyone likes you. You realise the parts of your personality that you thought were attributes as a sportswoman are not valued." She added: "I was told I was being too competitive, whereas I was thinking, 'I thought that was good. That's what I did in sport — and it worked — and that's what my husband is doing.'" Gabby firmly believes that there was a definitive cultural shift on the show as competitive women are now more "appreciated."

ITV Racing favourite left Sky Sports after being ‘given second chance in life'

Ed Chamberlin asked how long he had left when he was diagnosed with stomach cancer but has flourished since leaving Sky Sports and linking up with ITV Racing Ed Chamberlin believes he was "given a second chance at life" as he decided to swap Sky Sports football coverage for a horse racing gig with ITV. The 51-year-old fronted Sky Sports Super Sunday and Monday Night Football shows for six years before moving to ITV Racing in 2017 following his recovery from stomach cancer. ‌ The presenter was diagnosed after collapsing at home after weeks of coping with crippling stomach pain and underwent nine weeks of chemotherapy - all at a time when wife Charlotte was pregnant. ‌ Not one to dwell on the struggles life has hit him with, Chamberlain insists he feels "incredibly lucky" having, in his own words, "dodged a bullet" as he enjoys this week presenting the coverage of Royal Ascot. He told the ainslie + ainslie Performance People podcast: 'I don't for one second feel like I was dealt a bad hand. I feel like I've dodged a bullet and been incredibly lucky.' Chamberlin admits his first question when told the news by his specialist was 'How long have I got?' as he looked to get to grips with the reality of his illness. He admits: 'It was a pretty harrowing process" before adding: 'I was in a ward and you know what I'm like, I talk to everybody, and I found it really hard because you'd make a friend who the next morning might not be there.' Since recovering he has swapped one dream job for another, leaving his role at Sky to present ITV's racing coverage. It was Chamberlin who got the call to replace Richard Keys following his acrimonious departure from the broadcaster, but he was fearful of a Gary Neville reunion following an old run-in Chamberlin said: 'At the time I thought, 'Oh no'. I'd done a game with him at Blackburn. We hated each other. Well, I hated him, anyway. He was a nightmare and he was the most unpopular player in Premier League history. I thought, 'This is going to be a disaster'. And then all summer, we got together and spent time together and I just loved him from the moment I met him.' The collaboration between Chamberlin, Neville and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher was a golden nugget in Sky's coverage at the time, but the presenter concedes he had been against Carragher getting the job, before acknowledging his error.

Simon Thomas says following Jeff Stelling was ‘like replacing Fergie at United'

Thomas took over from the hugely popular Stelling for the start of the 2023-24 season when the veteran broadcaster stepped away from fronting the Saturday afternoon results show after over 25 years in the chair. Thomas, who took a break from presenting following the death of his wife in 2017, initially wanted to turn the job down, fearing he would have an 'impossible job', much like Moyes did at Old Trafford when he took over from the Scot in 2013. 'It was a little bit like replacing Fergie at United,' the 52-year-old told ainslie + ainslie Performance People podcast. 'You almost want to be the one after David Moyes. 'I'll be really honest, I wanted to say no initially because I thought this is the impossible job. I remember when he announced he was leaving, everyone was saying good luck to whoever replaces him. 'But how can you turn it down?' Thomas, who admitted he struggled with anxiety when returning to work following his wife's death, fronted a rebrand of Soccer Saturday and admits he struggled in his first season. 'When I came to do Soccer Saturday, I knew I was in a better place but I'd say a lot of the first season I had a real struggle,' he said. 'There was a period when I thought 'have I made a massive mistake here?'. 'It's hard enough replacing Jeff, it's massively hard taking on a show that's six hours long and on a busy week you're keeping across 71 games over six hours. 'It screws with your head and I did struggle a lot with it. I had to ride the storm and say this first season is going to be hard, I'm going to have to ignore all people that say 'it's rubbish now Jeff's gone' and 'he's not as good as Jeff, he's not funny, he's not this'.'
