IT: Welcome to Derry – Release date, cast, plot and everything we know so far
By Aman Shukla Published on June 8, 2025, 18:39 IST Last updated June 8, 2025, 18:58 IST The terrifying world of Stephen King's IT is expanding with IT: Welcome to Derry , an upcoming HBO series that dives into the sinister origins of Pennywise the Dancing Clown. Set as a prequel to the blockbuster films IT (2017) and IT Chapter Two (2019), this series promises to unravel the chilling history of Derry, Maine, and its most infamous resident. Here's everything we know so far about IT: Welcome to Derry , including release date speculation, cast details, plot insights, and more. Release Date Speculation for IT: Welcome to Derry IT: Welcome to Derry is slated to premiere in fall 2025 on HBO and Max, though an exact release date remains unconfirmed. Initially, the series was targeted for a Halloween 2024 debut, but delays caused by the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes pushed production back, shifting the release to 2025. Recent updates suggest a potential October 2025 premiere, aligning with the spooky season, which would be fitting for a horror series of this caliber. Production wrapped in August 2024, and with post-production underway, fans can expect more precise details closer to the release. Cast of IT: Welcome to Derry The series boasts a talented ensemble, blending new faces with a familiar terror. Here's a breakdown of the confirmed cast: Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise : The standout star of the IT films returns to reprise his iconic role as the shape-shifting demon clown. Skarsgård, who initially expressed hesitation about returning due to the role's intensity, will also serve as an executive producer, ensuring continuity with the films. His chilling performance is a major draw for fans. Main Cast : Taylour Paige ( Zola , Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F ): A lead role, though character details remain undisclosed. Jovan Adepo ( 3 Body Problem , The Leftovers ): Expected to play a pivotal role, possibly tied to the Hanlon family, given references to Will Hanlon in some sources. Chris Chalk ( Gotham , Perry Mason ): Another series regular, adding depth to the ensemble. James Remar ( Dexter , Black Lightning ): Known for intense roles, his character is yet to be revealed. Stephen trasferimento ( Daredevil ): Joins as a series regular, bringing his dramatic chops to Derry's horrors. Plot Details for IT: Welcome to Derry IT: Welcome to Derry is set in 1962, 27 years before the events of IT (2017), aligning with Pennywise's cyclical awakening every 27 years. The series draws inspiration from the 'interludes' in Stephen King's IT novel, which detail Mike Hanlon's research into Derry's dark history through interviews with older residents. These interludes chronicle catastrophic events tied to Pennywise's reign, such as the burning of the Black Spot, a nightclub for Black residents, which serves as a central event in Season 1. Where to Watch IT: Welcome to Derry IT: Welcome to Derry will premiere on HBO and stream exclusively on Max in the United States. In the UK, it's expected to air on Sky and NOW, consistent with HBO's distribution patterns. A Max subscription will be required to stream the series, which will drop its nine episodes weekly starting in fall 2025. Aman Shukla is a post-graduate in mass communication . Vets find surprise while trying to save endangered turtle hit by boat
Turns out Pennywise the sea turtle was carrying eggs A group of conservationists has reason to celebrate after rescuing an endangered sea turtle and finding out they may have saved even more turtles in the process. On May 19, conservationists from Inwater Research Group found a floating loggerhead sea turtle off Florida's Atlantic coast with significant blunt force trauma to her shell. The conservationists took the turtle to veterinarians at Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach, Florida, where they began treating the reptile. Loggerhead Marine Centre is a non-profit conservation organization. The vets suspected the turtle — which they named Pennywise — was hit by a boat. Unfortunately, they hit a snag. To assess the extent of Pennywise's injuries, they wanted to put her into a computed tomography (CT) scanner, which uses X-rays to help health-care workers take photos of the inside of her body. WATCH — Female sea turtles are outnumbering males in Florida But at 137 kilograms (302 pounds), Pennywise was too big for their machine. The veterinary team took her to a nearby hospital to see if she could fit inside a CT machine meant for humans, but she was too big for that as well. Next, they took her to a horse hospital to use its CT machine and — thankfully — Pennywise fit. The imaging showed some damage to bones that surround the spinal cord. The vets put the turtle on special antibiotics to help her heal. 'Luckily, right now, her neurologic exam shows that all those nerves are intact. And that is a great sign for her,' Heather Barron, the chief science officer and veterinarian at Loggerhead, told The Associated Press. But the results from the CT scan weren't all bad. Turns out Pennywise is carrying eggs. 'We hope we'll be able to get her back out there into the wild as soon as possible so that she can lay those eggs,' Barron said. The centre will continue to monitor Pennywise to make sure her injuries don't get worse, Barron said, and as soon as her wounds are healed enough, they'll put her back into the wild.

Pennywise Terrorizes a New Batch of Kids in Trailer for IT: Welcome to Derry
Pennywise the Clown may have been defeated back in 2019, but HBO is set to milk the Derry franchise some more with their upcoming prequel IT: Welcome to Derry . The series is set to premiere this Fall, and we have a new teaser showcasing a new batch of kids with all-new fears all being perpetrated by the same killer clown. Check the trailer for Welcome to Derry out down here: No synopsis has been dropped for the series, but based on what we see in the trailer, it does look like the show is going to focus on a new group of kids who are all going to find out that clown is behind all of the scary things that are happening in the town. The IT lore has this thing where Pennywise surfaces every 27 years, so if this series takes place in '62, that means that Pennywise's next appearance would be the one in '89 when he runs into the Losers Club in the first movie. It's not clear what kind of story the kids are going to have with this prequel, but I am hoping that it doesn't just end on a dour note where Pennywise wins and they all just become dysfunctional adults. Who knows, maybe this show is going to finally introduce that cosmic turtle thing from the book, but I wouldn't be surprised if they just kept Pennywise's origin a mystery, since that's what makes him so scary in the first place. Watch out for IT: Welcome to Derry when it premieres on HBO Max this Fall.

Ontario locations spotted in new teaser for HBO's ‘IT' prequel, ‘Welcome to Derry'
Pennywise is back and he's terrorizing a town that might look familiar to some in Ontario. HBO just dropped the new teaser for the series based on Stephen King's novel 'IT' novel, published in 1986. 'IT: Welcome to Derry' is a prequel to the 'IT' films, Warner Brothers said in a news release. The trailer shows a family that just moved to a quiet little town who will soon discover the horror that hides behind its peaceful façade. It also shows a group of children investigating the strange things happening in the town 'where it all began' according to a cut scene. The series is reportedly set in the '60s and will give fans a look into the origins of Pennywise. 'IT: Welcome to Derry' is scheduled to premiere on HBO by fall of 2025. IT:WelcometoDerry official teaser Filming for the 'IT' prequel began in 2023 in a number of locations in Canada including some spots in Toronto and Port Hope, according to reports by TV Guide. Some shots were also filmed in a school in Hamilton. Scenes from the new teaser released by HBO this week. Most of the filming was done in Toronto. The city's residential areas served as the stand in for the mysterious town of Derry. Scenes from the new teaser released by HBO this week showing a road in Port Hope. The teaser also shows some of the young characters biking in the middle of the road that viewers might recognize as the Ontario town of Port Hope. Actors in the film production of 'Welcome to Derry' run through some rehearsals on Walton Street in Port Hope. In April 2024, Downtown Port Hope seemed to have been transported back to the 60s when filming crews filled Walton Street with vintage cars. Some interior and exterior scenes were shot at private businesses in the area. Other scenes were also reportedly shot in some parts of Hamilton. Derry High School as shown in the teaser. In early 2024, the show's cast and crew were spotted filming some scenes in the former Delta Secondary School. The latter is the stand in for the local Derry high school in the show. 'Welcome to Derry' returned to Hamilton to film at the former Delta Secondary School after going into hiatus due to the strikes by Hollywood actors and writers last year. 'Fairview' is the show's false flag. The show is a prequel to 'IT,' the Stephen King horror tale.
