Forget Neutrals! An Odd-Hued Sneaker Is My Summer Shoe
This summer is all about embracing a muted palette. At least, that is what the season's trending ready-to-wear colors would suggest. The runways were filled with loads of butter yellows, chocolate browns, and icy blues; 'Soft' and 'easy' are two words that come to mind when trying to define summer 2025 dressing. But for shoes, may we propose introducing a more anti-summer style into your wardrobe rotation—via an extremely odd-hued sneaker. If your closet is steering stealthy-chic, then your shoe game should go for more of a wow factor. Things can't all be so neutral. Where is the fun in that? And what better way to amp up an outfit than with a slim-green or acid-yellow sneaker. Eye-popping sneakers are currently having a moment on the feet of some notable celebrities. Earlier this month, Harry Styles stepped out in London wearing a pair of yellow Prada nylon low-tops—which he paired with itty-bitty gym shorts, naturally. (How Paul Mescal of him.) His mustard shoes worn with red shorts was an unexpected but very cool look. A reminder that color-mixing should be fun, and not taken so seriously.

British blokes have forgotten how to dress for the sun – follow these tips for a more stylish summer look
REMEMBER when we used to laugh at German blokes on holiday? You could spot them a mile off, with their mullets, vests, questionable moustaches, beer bellies and skimpy swimwear. 12 Follow David Beckham and his neutral bomber jacket, white T-shirt and pleated linen trousers Credit: The Mega Agency 12 Leave the short-shorts to Paul Mescal — because even he doesn't look good in them Credit: Getty 12 Michael B Jordan in an animal print shirt with cool tonal trousers and leather shoes Credit: Getty Well, now they are laughing at us because while they discovered style, we stole their look and made it worse by adding football shirts and Crocs. Germans now cut a dash with their stylish minimalism. The French embody effortless chic. The Italians and Spanish dress with cool Latin style. READ MORE ON MEN'S FASHION We, meanwhile, have become the poorly dressed man of Europe. British men have forgotten how to dress for the sun and stock our summer wardrobes with football shirts, muscle tees, bucket hats, skinny jeans, ¾-length trackies and oversized sunglasses. Our identity crisis is a national disgrace. On Spanish beaches our kids don't bury us in the sand because it's fun. They bury us because they're embarrassed by us, like cats burying their mess. Not so long ago, summer used to be a stress-free affair for men of my age — I'm 55. Most read in Fabulous On beaches we disappeared into the background, unnoticeable behind expanding midriffs and cloaks of matted body hair. We sat behind windbreaks, vests on, knotted hankies on head, trousers rolled up, reading the Racing Post. I'm a men's fashion expert - these style mistakes are ruining your look and could even damage expensive items No one expected anything of us. Women fretted about swimwear while we were allowed to gracefully surrender into middle-age spread. We only had two beach role models, But today more is expected of us. Blame social media if you want. The world has moved on. Men are expected to care more about how they dress. But in the UK it seems we didn't get the memo and while Europeans got more stylish, British blokes spun off at a tangent, like a divergent timeline in Marvel's Loki series. But you can do better. Some men try to break the mould, but get led astray trying to emulate celebrity role models. 12 Timothée Chalamet in cargo-shorts-socks-and-sandals ensemble Credit: BackGrid 12 Ryan Gosling makes it look easy with plain shirts and chinos Credit: Getty 12 Brad Pitt in his garish tie-dye tracksuit while out in New York City Credit: Getty Timothée Chalamet can get away with his cargo-shorts-socks-and-sandals ensemble because he's Timothée Chalamet — but you are not. Leave the short-shorts to Paul Mescal — because even he doesn't look good in them. And despite what the fashion mags tell you, bold matching tops and trousers do not look good on men over 25. Just look at Brad Pitt in his garish tie-dye tracksuit while out in New York City earlier this month. If a Hollywood superstar can't pull it off, you definitely can't. There are celebrity outliers, however. Take some pointers from Ryan Gosling, who makes it look easy with plain shirts and chinos, or David Beckham and his neutral bomber jacket, white T-shirt, pleated linen trousers and white trainers, or slightly more daring, Michael B Jordan in an animal print shirt with cool tonal trousers and leather shoes. Now we are re-establishing better relations with our continental brethren, it's time to smarten up our act — and the good news is, it's not hard. How do I know? Because I did it. I too was once like you, a hopeless summer fashion victim. I wore cargo shorts, 12 The Sun's Nick is all set for summer Credit: Supplied On one holiday to the South of swimming pool where board shorts were banned. I didn't realise and was frog-marched from the pool by lifeguards who made me purchase tight trunks from a vending machine. Walking back into the pool in my tiny new Lycra swimwear was like the walk of shame in Game Of Thrones. Today a 5-inch inseam is as daring as I get (which is good style advice for any man). My fashion salvation happened after I met a younger, stylish woman, who is now my wife. Stephanie, 45, knocked me into shape and taught me how to dress. It didn't take a lot of effort and I even get compliments occasionally from my 23-year-old daughter and 18-year-old son. So, as you head off for your hols, take a few tips from me. Ditch the football shirts, no one in Mykonos cares about Ditch anything with big logos on it. Wear leather sandals or espadrilles. Choose linen or seersucker short-sleeved shirts. You can't go wrong with a polo shirt and tailored shorts in neutral palettes. Replace your battered baseball cap with a Panama hat. Treat yourself to some understated sunglasses. Bodies should get some attention too. Before 2006, we could get away with a hairy dad bod, but then the film Casino Royale hit the big screen, and when Daniel Craig emerged from the sea like God chiselled from marble he ruined it for all of us. Now we're expected to look presentable in swimwear. So, get your back waxed, manscape your chest hair. Have a fake tan, but don't go mad. Ask for a light one. Get your eyebrows shaped and tinted. It's not unusual any more and makes a big difference, I promise. No one is going to think any less of you. Maybe swap a pint for a glass of rosé occasionally, or a mojito. Just a few small tweaks and the new stylish you will fit right in on beaches from the Costas to the Greek islands. Make the UK cool again, just don't mention Brexit. Nostalgic drama hailed as ‘best film of 2022' and 'masterpiece' available to stream now
The Scots movie, starring Paul Mescal, has a 95 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is certified fresh. Aftersun was met with huge critical acclaim when it was released in 2022 - earning Paul Mescal an Oscar nomination for his performance in the film, as well as kick-starting the career of young Scots actress Frankie Corio. The pair would go on to become the main attraction at most awards events that year as the movie - written and directed by Scot Charlotte Wells - scooped a raft of accolades including the BAFTA for Best Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer. Hailed by critics as one of the "greatest depictions of depression and grief captured on film" the plot focuses on the themes of childhood, parenthood and memory. The story follows an 11-year-old Scottish girl called Sophie as she goes on holiday to to a Turkish resort with her dad, Callum, on the eve of his 31st birthday. The film was occasionally shot through a mini video camera adding to the period texture, and is an ode to nostalgia with hints of something far darker. It received universal praise across the board from critics, who heralded Wells' direction and screenplay, and the performances of the stars. Aftersun was also named one of the best films of 2022 by the National Board of Review and earned Normal People star Mescal an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. Mescal himself was a huge cheerleader of the project, and was full of compliments for his young co-star, who was 12 at the time, when she was awarded Variety's '10 Brits to Watch' at the Newport Beach Film Festival for her performance. Mescal told a star-studded audience the West Lothian youngster will 'take over the world' as he stood up to collect his own gong for Artist of Distinction. He said: 'This is a crazy honour, it feels like yesterday I graduated from drama school. It feels like a short time and so much water has passed under the bridge. This lady here [Frankie Corio] is going to take over the world." Corio, who lives in Livingston with her teacher mum Leona and bathroom fitter dad Frank as well as her two siblings, was also dubbed a 'rising star' by Hollywood veteran Kate Blanchett and nominated for a BAFTA for Best Actress, making her the youngest person ever to make the shortlist for the gong. The young Scot - who was aged just 10 when she was cast in the film - has gone on to build a bright future in the industry. Now 14, she made the prestigious Forbes 30 Under 30 list earlier this year, which singles out emerging young talent. Corio has also starred in 2024 horror Bagman alongside Sam Claflin, and 2024 short film Stray. Frankie had no previous experience in acting and beat out 700 hopefuls to et the part after her mum sent a photo of her to a casting call. She also won the London Critics' Circle Award for Young British/Irish Performer. Movie fans who have yet to see Aftersun - or those who loved it so much they want to watch again and again - are now able to stream it for free, as it's just been added to BBC iPlayer's Film Premiere section, and it'll be available there for nine months. The movie has been Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 95% rating on the 'Tomatometer', and an 82% 'Popcorn Rating'. Critics and movie goers are united in their positive feedback on the film. One fan said: "Deeply sad and profoundly moving, yet a powerful testament to the undeniable love between father and daughter. A true masterpiece." One added: "Beautiful yet sad. Actors were incredibly talented." Prabhjot Bains, Tilt Magazine, said: "Charlotte Wells' picture-perfect debut visually epitomizes the heart-wrenching processes of memory." Gautam Sunder, from The Hindu, added: "Director Charlotte Wells gives us one of the most piercing debuts in recent memory with this intimate dad-daughter relationship drama."

Lily Allen seen snogging TV's James Norton during ‘first date' at festival leaving onlookers stunned
CLEAN-living Lily Allen steers clear of drink and drugs these days — so she was on her best behaviour for Lido Festival at the weekend. But she still found her own kind of high once the event finished, by snogging actor James Norton backstage. 5 I told yesterday how the singer had spent time with the Happy Valley star at the festival in East London's Victoria Park on Saturday afternoon, where they watched Charli XCX's headline set together. Now I have learned that they were in the mood to celebrate and headed to a backstage compound after the show, where Charli and other pals let their hair down. It doesn't sound like they had eyes for anyone else, though. One onlooker told me: 'James and Lily looked very into each other and they were snogging backstage. 'We were all quite surprised to see them there together, let alone kissing. 'I don't think they've even known each other that long, but it was a fun hang-out backstage and they got taken away by the vibe.' Meanwhile, Paul Mescal and Harris Dickinson, who will play Paul McCartney and John Lennon in the upcoming Beatles biopics, were also at the post-show party. And while Lily — who is believed to have met James on celebrity dating app Raya — stuck to the zero per cent beers, not everyone did. One fellow partygoer told me that a famous face, whose blushes I will spare here, took things way too far and ended up vomiting in front of several guests. Later on, Lily headed home riding a Lime bike, with her journey captured on Instagram by Saltburn actor Archie Madekwe. Lily Allen reveals secret boob job after split with Stranger Things star David Harbour - and surgery she wants done next Lily being in good spirits again is nice to see, because she has not had an easy time of it. The actress and singer, who splits her time between the UK and New York, broke up with her husband, Stranger Things actor David Harbour, at the end of last year. But last week on her Miss Me podcast, she said: 'I think I'm sort of turning a corner. 'I'm being much more active. I'm out and about and doing stuff.' Good for her. 5 5 5
