(AP Photo/Jeff Chiu) SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Boston Red Sox left fielder Jarren Duran was ejected in the eighth inning of Sunday's game against the San Francisco Giants after he argued a tag call at second base that had been upheld following a replay review. Duran singled to right field and was out at second on a throw by Mike Yastrzemski to shortstop Willy Adames. The Red Sox challenged the call, which was confirmed. Advertisement Duran, visibly swearing, was tossed by second base umpire Doug Eddings as the outfielder walked toward the dugout. He then turned around and tried to approach Eddings before being held back. Red Sox manager Alex Cora rushed out to argue and also was ejected. Boston trailed 8-5 in the series finale at the time. ___ AP MLB:

Giants Turn Heads With Justin Verlander Announcement on Wednesday

Giants Turn Heads With Justin Verlander Announcement on Wednesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Justin Verlander's career has been nothing short of remarkable since being selected second overall in the 2004 MLB draft. The 42‑year‑old right‐hander, who made his MLB debut just a year later in 2005 with the Detroit Tigers, has compiled over 3,400 innings pitched and recorded more than 3,000 strikeouts with a career ERA of 3.31. Advertisement A three‑time Cy Young Award winner and two-time World Series champion, Verlander has consistently demonstrated elite performance and durability across 20 seasons. Even at this stage of his career, his experience and veteran leadership serve as a valuable asset to any starting rotation. The team's starting catcher, Patrick Bailey, has also been reinstated following a brief stint on the injured list as well. In a corresponding move, Logan Porter and Triston Beck have both been optioned to the Giants' Triple-A affiliate team in Sacramento. Giants fans reacted to the news of Verlander officially being reinstated from the injured list on X. Advertisement "Good to have the boys back!" a fan said. Another replied, "Verlander W." One fan said, "Gotta give Verlander tons of support." "Beck has legit talent and will be back soon. He needs more time getting tuned up from the injury. Ready to see Verlander win 10 decisions in a row," a fan said, referencing Tristan Beck being optioned in a corresponding move. One surprised fan responded, "Kinda surprised they aren't giving JV a rehab start somewhere but I guess the Harrison trade probably changed that." As the NL West race intensifies, San Francisco's decision to bring Verlander—and fellow key player Patrick Bailey—back into the lineup comes at a pivotal time as they currently hold a record of 41-32, sitting 3.5 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and hold just a 1.5 game cushion in front of the San Diego Padres. Giants activate RHP Justin Verlander off IL to start vs. Guardians

June 18 - San Francisco Giants right-hander Justin Verlander has been activated from the 15-day injured list and will take the mound on Wednesday night in a start against the Cleveland Guardians. Verlander, 42, has been on the 15-day injured list due to right pectoral soreness. He had velocity and command issues during a start against the Oakland Athletics on May 18 and experienced further problems during a throwing session three days later before being placed on the IL. Verlander is winless in 10 starts this season, his first with the Giants. He is 0-3 with a 4.33 ERA, 41 strikeouts and 21 walks in 52 innings. The three-time American League Cy Young Award winner and 2011 AL MVP is in his 20th big league season. A nine-time All-Star, Verlander is 262-150 with a 3.31 ERA in 536 career starts. The Giants also activated catcher Patrick Bailey (neck) off the 10-day IL. Bailey is batting just .185 with one homer and 16 RBIs in 56 games. Bailey, 26, was the National League Gold Glove winner at catcher last season -- his third in the majors. To make room on the roster, San Francisco optioned catcher Logan Porter and right-hander Tristan Beck to Triple-A Sacramento. Porter, 29, was 1-for-7 in four games with the Giants and Beck, who turns 29 on Tuesday, was 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in six relief appearances. --Field Level Media
