ATTENTION train passengers! Indian Railways announces BIG change in Tatkal ticket booking, Aadhaar OTP must from…, no agent bookings in first 30 minutes for… Starting July 15, 2025, all Tatkal tickets booked at computerised Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters and through authorised railway agents will require an extra layer of verification through OTP authentication. By Analiza Pathak Edited by Analiza Pathak Advertisement Indian Railways is bringing new rules for Tatkal ticket booking from July 1, and these changes are meant to make the system more fair and reduce cheating. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that from July 1, people booking Tatkal tickets will have to do OTP verification. This means when you book a Tatkal ticket, you will get a code on your phone which you'll need to enter to complete the booking. This change is being made to stop agents and middlemen from blocking tickets and selling them at high prices. Advertisement === The minister also shared that the train reservation chart, which is now made just 4 hours before the train leaves, will soon be made 24 hours before departure. This will help passengers with waiting or RAC tickets plan better, especially if they don't get confirmed seats. Indian Railways has already started trying out this new charting rule in the Bikaner division, and passengers there have given good feedback. The plan is to expand it across India soon. Advertisement === The Railways Ministry also advised passengers to link their Aadhaar with their IRCTC account to avoid any problems while booking. These steps are being taken to make sure real passengers get a fair chance and ticket bookings become more transparent and smoother for everyone. Aadhaar needed for online Tatkal booking From July 1, 2025, if you want to book Tatkal tickets online through the IRCTC website or mobile app, you must first link your Aadhaar number to your IRCTC account and then complete Aadhaar verification successfully. 2. OTP required for booking Tatkal tickets online Starting from July 15, 2025, anyone booking a Tatkal ticket online will also need to: Enter an OTP (One-Time Password) sent to their registered mobile number. This is to double-check the identity of the person booking. 3. Tatkal Tickets at Railway counters and through agents From July 15, 2025, even if you book Tatkal tickets at railway stations (PRS counters) or through authorised agents, you will need to: Go through OTP verification here as well. This adds one more step of safety to make sure tickets aren't misused. 4. Booking time limit for agents To give regular passengers a better chance at getting Tatkal tickets, agents will not be allowed to book tickets in the first 30 minutes after bookings open. Here's how the rule works: For AC classes: Agents cannot book between 10:00 AM and 10:30 AM For non-AC classes: Agents cannot book between 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM This gives normal passengers the first chance to book tickets without competition from agents. Why these changes? ECoR shifts PRS & UTS of Bhubaneswar Station to new building
Bhubaneswar, June 17 (UNI) As part of the ongoing redevelopment of Bhubaneswar Railway Station to world-class standards, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has initiated steps to improve passenger convenience and infrastructure. The Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) counters, which were previously operating from a temporary shed, have now been shifted to the newly constructed station building on a temporary basis. According to ECoR sources, this arrangement ensures the uninterrupted availability of ticketing services while allowing construction work at the shed site to continue smoothly. The redevelopment of Bhubaneswar Railway Station is being undertaken under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. To further ease passenger movement, a newly constructed approach road from the Town Bus Stand/Temple side has been opened, providing better connectivity and hassle-free access to the station. A major milestone in this redevelopment effort is the opening of direct access to Platform No 1 through a newly built ground-level departure concourse, which is expected to reduce congestion and significantly improve passenger flow. The relocated PRS/UTS and enquiry counters at the under-construction station building offer more space and improved ease of movement for passengers, ECoR sources said. UNI DP SS

IRCTC Tatkal ticket booking will require Aadhaar from July 1
The Indian Railways on Wednesday (June 11, 2025) announced new rules to the Tatkal ticket booking system. One of the most prominent ones among these is that Aadhaar-based identification will soon be mandatory to book railway tickets online. 'Effective from July 1, Tatkal tickets booked through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation's (IRCTC) official website and mobile app will be available only to users authenticated with Aadhaar,' a spokesperson of the Ministry of Railways said. The spokesperson also added that Aadhaar-based OTP authentication will become mandatory for all online Tatkal bookings from July 15. The Ministry has also made provisions for offline Tatkal bookings. 'Tatkal tickets booked at computerised Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters and through authorised agents will require OTP authentication sent to the mobile number provided by the user at the time of booking,' the spokesperson said. This provision will also come into effect from July 15. The Indian Railways has also barred authorised ticketing agents from booking opening-day Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of the respective booking windows, in order to prevent bulk bookings during the critical opening window. 'For AC classes, this restriction applies from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and for non-AC classes, from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.,' the spokesperson said. Ahead of these changes, IRCTC had deactivated 2.5 crore suspect user IDs as part of a digital overhaul of its ticketing infrastructure, on June 4, 2025. 'Through the deployment of anti-bot systems and integration with a leading Content Delivery Network (CDN) service provider, the Railways has curbed unauthorised automated bookings by unscrupulous agents and improved the access of the website to the genuine users,' a senior Railway official said. '131 complaints of the suspicious users have been lodged with the cybercrime cell in the last four months.' The changes will enhance user authentication and reduce misuse of the scheme, the statement added. Indian Railways had cracked down on misuse of Tatkal bookings and identified and deactivated 2.5 crore fake IDs and flagged another 20 lakh for revalidation. Some of these accounts were found to be using disposable email addresses, which were being used to hoard tickets and sell them at inflated prices. IRCTC is utilising AI-driven tools to monitor and detect bot activity, which was being used by touts to book tickets in bulk and then make genuine travellers pay huge amounts for the tickets.
