Jakarta E-Prix 2025: Maximilian Gunther, Oliver Rowland, or a new face - here are top contenders for a podium finish at Round 12 Formula E race

Image credit: Formula E Season 11 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is coming to a close, with five races remaining on the calendar. The Jakarta E-Prix is a crucial race, and it's hard to predict who may lift the trophy in Indonesia this year. The current season has already seen seven different race winners and fifteen drivers on the podium. Not only that, but every single team has achieved a podium finish so far — a clear indication of how tight and unpredictable the competition is. Jakarta E-Prix 2025 podium predictions Oliver Rowland Nissan's Oliver Rowland is far ahead of the competition so far, as he dominates the FIA Drivers' World Championship standings with 171 points — significantly ahead of Pascal Wehrlein, who sits in second position with 103 points for TAG Heuer Porsche. Rowland has a total of four wins and three second-place finishes this season, and he may continue his winning streak in Jakarta as well. Maximilian Gunther Maserati MSG Racing's Maximilian Gunther is being counted among the hot favourites to bag a podium at the Jakarta E-Prix. He has two wins under his belt this year and will be trying his best to maintain his stronghold in the city and add more points to his tally. He had secured third place in the Part 1 race in 2023, having started from Julius Bar Pole Position — a historic moment as Maserati's first single-seater motorsport pole since 1958. He again bagged the pole the next day of the double-header and went on to win his first race in the iconic blue livery of Maserati MSG Racing. It marked Maserati's first single-seater championship podium since Juan Manuel Fangio's 1957 German Grand Prix victory, en route to that year's Formula One title. Pascal Wehrlein Pascal Wehrlein won one of the two races at the Jakarta E-Prix's last edition, and the TAG Heuer Porsche driver is very much in form at present, with a win in Miami and three more podium finishes in the Formula E 2025 World Championship so far. He is second in the 2025 Formula E Driver Standings with 103 points and will be aiming for a win to catch up with Rowland. Mitch Evans Jaguar TCS Racing's Mitch Evans has been away from the podium for a long time now after winning the first race of this season in Sao Paulo. But this could also indicate his growing hunger for a win — or at least another podium — possibly in Jakarta, before the season comes to a close. Evans had won the first edition of the Jakarta E-Prix in 2022, when three drivers crossed the line within a single second. The other two drivers were Jean-Éric Vergne and Edoardo Mortara, who took second and third positions in that Season 8 race. He also bagged the third spot on the podium in Race 2 of the Jakarta double-header in 2023. This makes him one of the strong contenders to make a comeback on the podium. Also Read: Jakarta E-Prix 2025: Schedule, how to watch Round 12 Formula E race, weather prediction Since Nick Cassidy and Sebastien Buemi have also ended their race droughts this year, one can expect a new winner in Jakarta as well. The E-Prix begins on Friday with the free practice session and will conclude on Saturday with the final race in the early evening. The heat is on — but rain is likely, and that's enough to add to the unpredictability factor. Game On Season 1 kicks off with Sakshi Malik's inspiring story. Watch Episode 1 here

Adapting to Hypercar from Formula E is 'so easy' for Pascal Wehrlein – here's why

One of the most high-profile rookies at this year's Le Mans 24 Hours, Porsche Penske Motorsport's Pascal Wehrlein feels adequately prepared for the demanding French classic. The former Formula 1 driver, DTM champion and reigning Formula E world champion took sixth on his endurance racing debut at the Daytona 24 Hours alongside Bryce Aron, Gianmaria Bruni and Tijmen van der Helm, then ninth at the Spa-Francorchamps 6 Hours with Kevin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor. Advertisement Wehrlein is now coming into Le Mans with a third set of team-mates, sharing the #4 Porsche 963 with Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy. Following the test day, he feels confident in his ability to be quick, regardless of the Porsche LMDh prototype being extremely different to the Formula E machinery he drives most of the time – because it's too different for the comparison to be relevant in any way. 'Obviously I've driven many categories in my career so far, so in general I have a very good understanding of what a car needs to be quick,' the German explained. 'I've driven DTM, which is a prototype touring car; I've driven Formula 1, which has a lot of downforce; Formula E, and now LMDh. I would say I have quite a big toolbox of driving styles – and adapting quickly to it, I know what it takes. 'I feel like, also, the transition from Formula E to this car is so easy, because actually you don't have a wrong reference. The cars behave so differently that I don't compare it to Formula E, I don't take anything from that car, jump into this car and think, 'yeah but here it felt like that'. It's completely different cars. 'I would assume, for example, if I put myself 10 years back, and sat in a DTM car and then drove this car, there would be a lot more going on in my head: 'Yeah, but my DTM car is a bit like that, and now I'm in this'. It's so different. There's nothing to compare. It makes the transition quite smooth.' Pascal Wehrlein, TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team Pascal Wehrlein, TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team Team-mates Nasr and Tandy are competing at Le Mans for the sixth and 13th time respectively, with the Briton having won the race overall in 2015, which represents a wealth of experience for Wehrlein to lean on. Advertisement Asked by what advice his partners have given him, Wehrlein said: 'So much. I think it would exceed your report! 'They've been so supportive. Felipe and Nick, the whole team – even Laurens, Kevin in Spa, my other team-mates. 'I've been asking a lot of questions, just because I know there are a lot of rookie mistakes and errors you can do, and I just want to jump that step. I want to be as well prepared as I can. 'A lot of it is actually procedures – rules, regulations, slow zones, all this stuff. A penalty here can be so costly. 'Timo [Bernhard] has been very supportive, giving a lot of advice on traffic management – how to place your car, where to place it. Advertisement 'Jumping into the car, being on pace, on speed, that is not the thing. It's more about procedures, about how to be fast through the traffic and avoid losing a lot of time there. 'If you approach a corner and you see it's going to be tight to pass this LMP2 car or GT3 car, is it worth to push flat out and pass him, or will I not make it anyway, so it's better to save energy and save fuel? Just that – a bit of a different mentality.' Read Also: Ferrari 'clearly faster' than Toyota at Le Mans - Sebastien Buemi To read more articles visit our website.

Jakarta to London via Berlin: All you need to know about the remaining 2025 Formula E calendar

Image credit: Formula E The 11th edition of the Formula E season will come to a close next month. Eleven rounds have already been completed this season, and Nissan's Oliver Rowland is a clear leader in the Formula E Driver Standings, well ahead of the competition. There are five more races to be held, as three Grands Prix are lined up for this month and the next. Here's all about the action that will unfold over these two months before the current season comes to an end in July. Jakarta E-Prix The Jakarta E-Prix is a two-day event from June 20 to June 21. The Round 12 race will be held at the Jakarta International Circuit in Indonesia. The venue was missing from the calendar last year. Maserati MSG Racing driver Maximilian Gunther won pole position in both races of the Jakarta double header in 2023, but he won only one of the races and took third place on the podium in the other. The other race was won by Pascal Wehrlein of TAG Heuer Porsche. Berlin E-Prix Berlin is the only venue to have been a permanent fixture on the Formula E calendar since its inception. The 11th edition of the Berlin E-Prix will be a double header from July 11 to July 13. The Round 13 and Round 14 races will be held on July 12 and July 13, respectively. Both races will take place at the Tempelhof Airport Street Circuit. TAG Heuer Porsche driver Antonio Felix da Costa has been the most successful Formula E driver in Berlin, with three wins, including one last year. Nick Cassidy of Jaguar TCS Racing has also won twice and claimed one of the two races last year. London E-Prix The London double header will be the closing event of the 11th season. It will be held at the ExCeL London circuit from July 25 to July 27. All eyes will be on the Round 15 and Round 16 races, as the Formula E world champion will be crowned at this double header based on the Formula E Driver Standings for this year. It was a double header last year as well, with Nissan's Oliver Rowland winning one of the races. Pascal Wehrlein won the other and secured a podium spot in the race he didn't win.

Pascal Wehrlein on second place in Shanghai: 'First time I felt like we were very competitive in the wet'

Image credit: Pascal Wehrlein/Instagram TAG Heuer Porsche driver Pascal Wehrlein gained no points on Day 1 of the Shanghai E-Prix last weekend. However, the Formula E driver was able to turn the tables in a rainy race the next day and claim second place on the podium. After the race, he confirmed that the result made him realise they were actually competitive on a wet track. Pascal Wehrlein on winning in Shanghai Pascal Wehrlein secured second place in the Round 11 race in Shanghai, with his teammate Antonio Felix Da Costa joining him on the podium in third. The two had started in the same positions on the grid but in reverse order. It was, nevertheless, a double gain for Porsche on Sunday. Talking about the Round 11 race, Wehrlein said, 'Very tricky conditions especially in the beginning, I think it got a little bit better towards the end, but our pace was good. Not good enough for P1, but quite far ahead of the guys behind. Personally I'm very happy about the result today because today was the first time that I felt like we were very competitive in the wet, which wasn't the case in Tokyo and Monaco. I think we've found a good way there and in the end a happy ending for us. ' The two also scored double podiums at the Mexico E-Prix and then again in Miami, where Wehrlein won. He earned another podium at the Tokyo E-Prix. With such a strong performance this year, Wehrlein currently holds second place in the Formula E Driver Standings with 103 points. TAG Heuer Porsche gained big in Shanghai 'It was a very strong result today in very tricky and challenging wet conditions,' Porsche Formula E boss Florian Modlinger stated after the double podium in Round 11. The 34 points earned from the results, plus the fastest lap by Wehrlein, also promoted Porsche to the top of the Teams' World Championship—by a single point ahead of Nissan. 'We are really happy with these points and regaining the lead in the Teams' Championship by a single point. It will be a very hard fight to the end of the year. Overall – with three Porsche in the top six with Nico Mueller – we can be very happy,' Modlinger added. Also Read: Nick Cassidy on winning Round 11 race at Shanghai E-Prix: 'It feels like we've been waiting a long time' Wehrlein and Da Costa will now be eyeing more such wins, with five more races remaining before the Formula E season wraps up for the year. The next race is in Jakarta on June 21.

Cassidy Produces Dominant Lights-to-flag Victory on Rain-soaked Sunday in Shanghai

Amid torrid conditions, Jaguar TCS Racing's Nick Cassidy converted from pole, leading every lap of the race to produce a first win of the season in the 2025 Hankook Shanghai E-Prix Round 11 at a rain-soaked Shanghai International topped a weather-truncated Groups-only qualifying session to seal pole and strode away into an immediate lead, where he was able to stay for the duration of Round 11 in tricky conditions as the rain continued to fall - though less heavily than throughout the morning. The win was a first lights-to-flag victory of the GEN3 Evo era and a return to the top step for the New champion Pascal Wehrlein got the better of his teammate through the first round of ATTACK MODE activations; the German leading home António Félix da Costa despite an early slip, as TAG Heuer Porsche capitalised on a Nissan non-score to round out the podium and propel the Stuttgart marque to the top of the FIA Teams' World Championship table - a full reversal after TAG Heuer Porsche failed to score on Hughes (Maserati MSG Racing) brought it home fourth, Jean-Éric Vergne (DS PENSKE) fifth and Nico Mueller (Andretti) finished sixth. The second Maserati of Stoffel Vandoorne finished seventh despite pirouetting two laps from the chequered flag, ahead of Robin Frijns (Envision Racing), Lucas di Grassi (Lola Yamaha ABT) and NEOM McLaren's Taylor Barnard. The difficult conditions caught out a number of other drivers including Jake Dennis, Nyck de Vries, Dan Ticktum and Sam Bird with standing water significant in spots around the circuit throughout the race. Even so, 21 of the 22 cars managed to make it to the end of the race as their race craft was pushed to the result sees Rowland's lead reduce to 68 points over Pascal Wehrlein (103 points), with da Costa in third (88 points) with only five races remaining this season. Porsche retakes the top spot in the FIA Teams' World Championship running from Nissan, while Nissan leads Porsche in the FIA Manufacturers' World Championship Cassidy, No. 37, Jaguar TCS Racing said: 'This weekend is a massive highlight. Really proud of all our guys. Qualifying form yesterday was huge for us, we were in the game, and I'm just proud that we've come back today and our pace was absolutely unbelievable - what a race. I feel like there have been so many wins that probably should have been ours at the end of last season that never happened, and it feels like we've been waiting a long time. That's certainly on your mind when you go through the last couple of laps, and now to get that monkey off the back is awesome.'
