There was a time in the '90s when he delivered back-to-back hits, and everything he touched seemed to turn to gold. His filmography includes beloved titles such as Coolie No. 1, Dulhe Raja, Raja Babu, Partner, among several others. However, since the mid-2000s, Govinda's career has seen a significant decline, and he has all but disappeared from mainstream cinema. His wife, Sunita Ahuja, recently spoke out, blaming the 'wrong circle' around him, people she indirectly described as sycophants, for playing a key role in his professional downfall. Govinda was also in the news earlier this year after he accidentally shot himself. Following his discharge from the hospital, he addressed the media at a press conference held at his Mumbai residence. 'Initially, I couldn't believe it had happened,' he said. His last film appearance was in Rangeela Raja, which was released in 2019.

(Also read: Anil Kapoor is 'jhootha no 1' says Pahlaj Nihalani, slams him for calling Andaz B-grade film: He was desperate to do it) Pahlaj Nihalani talked about Govinda's downfall in an interview. Speaking about Govinda's downfall, Pahlaj began, 'Govinda was an all-rounder. He handled his career very well, but because of his 'weakness', he tends to trust people easily, which is why this happened. The atmosphere around him isn't good, that's why he wanders away. He keeps the company of pandits and astrologers, fortune tellers and the atmosphere he has around him and what he believes in. But people don't take those conversations seriously. These types of conversations and this aura are extremely damaging, which has affected his career in the film industry.' 'David Dhawan ne uske mind me zeher daal diya' He went on to add, 'He was a single-screen hero, and the time when multiplexes came, people stopped his films from releasing. Jab Govinda ka time aaya Partner ke baad toh uski filmein jitni aayi, logon ne usko neecha dikhaaya aur shows chalne nahi diye. David Dhawan uske saath kaam kar raha tha aur David Dhawan ne uske mind me zeher daal diya tha against me. Kyuki unko lagta tha main ne paisa kamaya, jabki meri picture sey unka naam hua (After Partner, many of his films were not released or stalled. David Dhawan was working with him that time and he poisoned his mind against me. He thought I was making money but did not see he also made his name with my films).' About Govinda's films Govinda had a string of hit films at the box office in the 90s, including Raja Babu, Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, and Sajaan Chale Sasural. However, his films underperformed during the early 2000s. Now his son, Yashvardhan Ahuja, is all set to make his Bollywood debut soon with Sai Rajesh's film.

Deepshikha Nagpal On Daughter Breaking Koyla CDs: ‘Affected Me Psychologically'

Last Updated: Despite trying to break free from the made-up persona, Deepshikha Nagpal revealed that she was repeatedly offered only negative roles after Baadshah. Deepshikha Nagpal is a familiar face in the 90s entertainment world. The actress is known for her powerful performances in hit films like Koyla, Baadshah, Dillagi, Rishtey and Partner. Even after starring with bigwigs like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, she shifted to the television industry, as she felt that some wrong choices in films made people judge her. Shedding light on it, Deepshikha opened up about the highs and lows of her acting career. In a candid interview with The Indian Express, the actress revealed how consistent typecasting for playing negative roles took a deep psychological toll on her, both within the industry and at home. Despite trying to break free from the made-up persona, Deepshikha revealed that she was repeatedly offered only negative roles after Baadshah. 'Back then, negative roles weren't respected. 'Yeh toh side actress hai, bure kaam karti hai' (She's a side actress, does bad things). You don't want to hear that when you are living in this society," she said, describing the societal judgement she encountered. This scrutiny wasn't limited to the film industry. Even on television, Deepshikha found audiences and industry peers unfairly labelling even her positive characters. But perhaps the most painful criticism came from within her own family. The actress shared that she found little support from her extended family when she lost both her parents. 'During the lockdown, I reflected on my career, I had done such big films, but when I came home from shoots, no one appreciated my work. Instead, I was told, 'What have you done? Tumne toh kapde utaare iss film mein… Tum toh aise ho, tumhare bacche tumko respect nahi karenge.' I felt ashamed," she added. Recalling a heart-wrenching moment of her daughter breaking CDs of Koyla, the actress expressed, 'All of it made me go silent—It affected me psychologically. I felt like a failure as an actor, in my marriage, everywhere. I was broken inside. I eventually learnt that there's no market for your sorrow, so I never carried that baggage to work. Acting became my escape. It helped me heal." Raised in a conservative household, Deepshikha said that she was the 'typical good girl' who followed all the rules. Butthe public and industry perception painted a very different picture, which left her feeling judged and anxious. First Published:

‘Apne pair par khud kulhaadi…', This director called Govinda 'foolish' because of…, his name is…

Bollywood actor Govinda is best known for ruling the industry in the 90s, giving back-to-back blockbusters one after another. However, slowly, his stardom began to diminish, which later became a huge concern for his die-hard admirers as they were not able to see their favorite star anymore on the big screen. Recently, filmmaker, producer and former CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani openly talked about Govinda's career. Many Tried To Spoil Govinda… During an interview with Vicky Lalwani, Pahlaj Nihalani, who did iconic films with Govinda such as Aankhen, Ilzaam and Shola Aur Shabnam, talked about Govinda and mentioned that many people tried to spoil his career. There were also his rival stars who wanted him to end his career soon. He said, 'Govinda was an all-rounder individual. He managed his career well, but due to his vulnerability, he easily puts his trust in others, and the environment around him is not positive, which leads him to stray. He associates with pandits (astrologers, fortune tellers) and immerses himself in that context and belief system. However, people often do not take those discussions seriously. Such dialogues and this surrounding atmosphere are harmful to his career in the film industry. He ended his answer by saying, 'Inhi sab wajahon ke kaaran wo barbaad hua aur usne apne pairon par swayam kulhaadi maar li thi.' Pahlaj Nihalani Refers Govinda As Nasamajh Due To… Pahlaj referred to Govinda as 'nasamajh' and used his film Partner as an example to illustrate this point. He stated, 'Govinda is so nasamajh that in Partner, David Dhawan specifically wanted him for that role, but it was suggested that David and Salman assisted Govinda during his career downturn. Yet, Govinda became emotional and is so unaware. They behaved as if they were doing Govinda a favor, but they genuinely only wanted him to portray that character.' Pahlaj Nihalani Accuses David Dhawan Pahlaj further accused David Dhawan of influencing Govinda negatively and stirring animosity between them, revealing that this was the reason their collaboration ended. He said, 'David Dhawan had filled Govinda's mind with poison against me.' Pahlaj explained that David harbored resentment towards him, believing that he made profits from the 1993 film Aankhen, starring Govinda. However, Pahlaj contended that he was the film's producer and the one who conceived the story that turned into a feature film. He also mentioned that Anees Bazmee wrote the movie's dialogues and that David Dhawan was the director, but he claimed David was more like a 'dummy director.'

Pahlaj Nihalani Calls Govinda ‘Nasamjh' For This Reason

Pahlaj Nihalani shared that despite sharing a close bond with the iconic duo in the 90s, David Dhawan allegedly 'poisoned' Govinda's mind, leading to a rift. Pahlaj Nihalani, who has launched Govinda in Bollywood, has made a series of shocking claims against director David Dhawan and the actor. The filmmaker, producer and former CBFC chief shared that despite sharing a close bond with the iconic duo in the 90s, the director allegedly 'poisoned' Govinda's mind, leading to a rift. The filmmaker didn't hold back on his criticism of Govinda either. In an interview with journalist Vickey Lalwani, he called him 'naive" and attributed his career fall to the people he surrounds himself with. Pahlaj Nihalani said, 'Govinda was an all-rounder. He handled his career very well, but because of his weakness, he trusts people easily, and the atmosphere around him isn't good, that's why he wanders away." 'He keeps the company of pandits and the atmosphere he has around him and what he believes in. But people don't take those conversations seriously. These types of conversations and this aura are damaging for his career in the film industry," Nihalani added. Referencing the 2007 hit Partner, Nihalani accused, 'Govinda is so naive that in Partner, David Dhawan wanted only Govinda to play that character, but it was claimed that David and Salman helped Govinda during his career slump. But Govinda got so emotional, and woh itna nasamajh hai. They acted like they were obliging Govinda, but they actually wanted only him to play that role. Govinda got so emotional… woh itna nasamajh hai," he added. 'David Dhawan had filled Govinda's mind with poison against me," Nihalani stated, adding that this made them cease all professional collaborations. In the same interview, Pahlaj questioned David Dhawan's contribution to their hit film Aankhen (1993). He claimed that David was bitter against him, as he thought he earned money for him in the film, but the truth was that he was mostly absent during the shoot and functioned like a 'dummy director'. 'The story was mine, the screenplay I had written, the dialogues were written by Anees Bazmee, and I would also record the songs and shoot them. David was only there to shoot scenes. In fact, he was even absent for 27 days while shooting the climax. He came to Mumbai to shoot for another film. I did all the leftover work. I shot most of the action sequences. In all our films together, he did this," Nihalani claimed. Despite these accusations, the filmmaker said he held no personal grudge at the time. He said, 'No, I wanted a dummy director. Though he got the director's credit, as a producer, I was a big name, so I didn't care." First Published:
