Ex-teacher held for 'grave' crime

Gujar Khan police have booked about a dozen people for digging up a grave, desecrating the grave and the corpse and shifting the body to another grave in the Changa Meera area, arresting the principle accused. The grave was dug up in the darkness of night, the body was exhumed and reburied elsewhere. According to the First Information Report (FIR), an elderly man named Muhammad Ashfaq, who passed away on March 3, was buried in the Changa Meera graveyard. Complainant Kamran Sajid, a relative of the deceased, reported to police that he was at his home in Mauza Pindi when he received a call from a person named Muhammad Nazir. Nazir informed him that during the night, unknown individuals had exhumed the body of his father-in-law's brother, Muhammad Ashfaq, from his grave and relocated it elsewhere. Upon reaching the graveyard, the complainant confirmed the body was missing. Locals informed him that individuals named Hanif Hanfi, Akhtar, Imran, and 10 unknown accomplices had participated in the act and reburied the body approximately 100 meters away. Prior to the incident, the suspect Hanif had reportedly announced in the mosque his intention to establish a shrine (dargah) for Muhammad Ashfaq, who was considered a saint in the area. According to the complainant, the deceased was a humble and spiritual person and was not associated with such practices. Police responded promptly, collected evidence, and registered a case under Section 297 of the Pakistan Penal Code (pertaining to the desecration of graves). 'Main suspect held' Saddar SP Nabeel Khokhar confirmed that the main suspect, Hanif Hanfi, has been arrested, and efforts are ongoing to locate the other accused. The suspect's intention was allegedly to establish a shrine at the site of the new grave. With the consent of the family and approval from the court, the body was reburied in its original grave, he added. The SP further said that raids are being conducted to arrest the remaining suspects, who will be brought to justice soon. Meanwhile, the scope of the investigation had been expanded and during the inquiry, it was revealed that the prime suspect, Hanif Hanfi, is a former schoolteacher who prefers to be addressed as "Master." He has a passion for poetry and has even authored a book. A resident of Changa Meera village, Hanfi has been living at a local shrine instead of his family home due to alleged domestic disputes. Meanwhile, police are conducting raids to apprehend the remaining suspects, who have gone into hiding.

Two booked for TikToker's 'gang rape'

Khanpur police have registered a case against two suspects for allegedly gang-raping a content creator. The woman had approached the district police officer (DPO) of Haripur seeking justice after allegedly being gang-raped in a moving vehicle on Khanpur Road. The DPO, Farhan Khan, took notice and ordered Khanpur police to register a case. An FIR has been filed under Sections 376, 392, 505, and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code. However, no arrests have been made yet. Sources claim that police in Khanpur are allegedly facilitating the suspects. It is reported that intermediaries conveyed messages to the accused advising them to seek pre-arrest bail immediately after the FIR was filed. The victim, identified as a 26-year-old from Taxila, has also allegedly received a message criticising her for going directly to the DPO. Insiders further reveal that Khanpur police have been deliberately delaying the investigation and are keeping the suspects informed of all developments. The victim's close associates stated she is prepared to pursue all legal avenues to ensure the arrest of the culprits and, if necessary, will approach the courts.

Attempt to marry off 13-year-old girl foiled

An attempt to solemnise the marriage of a 13-year-old girl in Hijrat Colony was foiled on Friday after a joint operation by local police and the Women and Child Protection Cell. According to a police spokesperson, the raid was carried out after the Women and Child Protection Cell received credible information regarding the planned child marriage. The cell immediately alerted District South SSP Mehtor Ali, who directed the Civil Lines police to take action. A police team rushed to the address and found that preparations were underway for the underage girl's wedding. Officials intervened just in time, stopping the ceremony before it could take place. Police asked the family to produce official documentation to verify the girl's age, which confirmed that she was only 13-year old. Acting on the minor's statement and other available evidence, police arrested the girl's parents and several others allegedly involved in organising the marriage. A case has been registered at the Civil Lines police station under Sections 3 and 5 of the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act, 2013, and Section 511 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which pertains to attempts to commit an offence.

Man commits suicide after killing ex-wife

A prison police personnel killed his ex-wife in front of their two young daughters before taking his own life. The police shifted both the bodies to a hospital for autopsy. Shazia Bibi, a resident of Alvi Park in Jaranwala, had married Tanveer Ahmed, the prison police employee. It was a love marriage, but six years ago, the woman had obtained divorce through a court due to irreconcilable differences. The victim supported herself by giving tuitions. Tanveer, still harboring resentment, broke into Shazia's home and shot her dead in front of their daughters. He then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide. The Jaranwala police took possession of the bodies and handed them over to the heirs after completing the legal formalities. The police registered a case under Section 302 of Pakistan Penal Code against the deceased Tanveer on the complaint of Shazia's brother Muhammad Shehbaz. In the FIR, Shehbaz maintained that Tanveer used to blackmail and threaten his sister for money after their divorce. On the day of the incident, he had demanded money from her and, upon her refusal, shot her dead before taking his own life. The police said they were investigating the matter after registering the case.
