Chelsea leave Rio Ferdinand dumbstruck as he makes Todd Boehly thoughts clear

Rio Ferdinand has been left stunned by the financial state of Chelsea under Todd Boehly after a Premier League profitability and sustainability rules list emerged Ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has expressed his surprise at Chelsea topping a list ranking the healthiest Premier League clubs based on profitability and sustainability rules (PSR). On his podcast, Rio Reacts, the former England star was taken aback to see the Blues firmly positioned at the top with £300 million banked in sales despite their substantial spending under Todd Boehly. The Blues have shelled out more than £1.1billion over the past three years, consistently leading the Premier League's spending charts. Despite this, they have managed to steer clear of PSR violations. ‌ In conversation with football finance expert Kieran Maguire, Ferdinand couldn't conceal his astonishment. "I've got a list of the healthiest PSR clubs. Chelsea? How the hell are Chelsea top, please, with £300m?" Ferdinand queried. ‌ Under the current regulations, Premier League clubs are prohibited from having losses exceeding £105m over a three-year period. Maguire elucidated how the Blues are actually exploiting a notorious loophole provided by the Premier League. "In terms of Chelsea, having this £300m - £200m of that comes from selling the women's team to themselves, and another £70m, or £60-£70m, comes from selling a couple of car parks to themselves as well," Maguire explained. "Without that, Chelsea would be in a really tricky position." When questioned about the legality of such dealings, Maguire confirmed it was above board, stating: "It's in the Premier League rules. The Premier League had the opportunity to close that loophole last week and the club owners decided they quite liked it as it seems a 'get out of jail free' card that Chelsea have used and perhaps other clubs might say we want to use that as well." It's thought that Chelsea eased their financial concerns using this very loophole. The club's accounts, released in April 2024, revealed an astonishing loss of £89.9m in the previous financial year. However, without their shrewd sale of two hotels from Chelsea FC Holdings Ltd to Blueco 22 Properties Ltd, which brought in £76.5m, that figure would have been a whopping £166.4m. Both companies are subsidiaries of Chelsea's parent company, Blueco 22 Ltd. ‌ Despite the scrutiny of Chelsea's spending since Boehly's takeover, they have consistently adhered to financial regulations. They've also raked in nearly £500m from player sales, a fact that Ferdinand was quick to commend Boehly for. "You've got to give it to Chelsea, yeah," He said. "Their owners have come in, they've created a new model right, everyone laughed at them, everyone ridiculed them, said, 'There's no chance they're going to finish anywhere, if you were a player you'd never sign for Chelsea'. "They've swept up some of the best talents in the world. They've gone full throttle with it and backed themselves, and then found a few loopholes, that some people are turning their nose up at, but if there's a loophole there to be had, it's there to be had, and they've exploited that and that's the Premier League's doing, not theirs. "They've seen it, gone for it and then used it to their own benefit. Their model in terms of selling players, I don't think it can be beaten at the minute - them and City probably."

Liverpool preparing offer for £75m England forward

Then there's the case of Luis Diaz. Out of contract in 2027, he could be sold to either Barcelona or a team in the Saudi Pro League in order to avoid losing him for a diminished fee. Anthony Gordon back on the radar Those sales would pave the way for a high-quality replacement. Advertisement And there is no question which winger would come out on top of the Reds' wishlist. Liverpool were tantalisingly close to agreeing a deal for Newcastle's Anthony Gordon last summer. The move ultimately fell apart at the final hurdle - with Liverpool said to be reluctant to add Jarell Quansah to the deal. The Magpies needed big sales in order to comply with PSR regulations and ended up getting rid of Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh instead. Gordon stayed put - signing a new deal in October - but Liverpool haven't gone away. © IMAGO - Anthony Gordon Liverpool Liverpool prepared to make offer for Gordon A new report by DAVEOCKOP claims that club execs have maintained contact with Gordon's representatives and are ready with an offer this summer. Advertisement It would require some of Liverpool's current wing options being shipped out first - and Gordon has been valued at around £75m. 'Liverpool have remained in active contact with Anthony Gordon's representatives since last summer,' the report reads. 'The Anfield club are prepared to make a significant move for the Newcastle United winger if one of their current forwards departs this summer – with the likes of Federico Chiesa, Darwin Nunez, and even Luis Diaz facing less than certain futures on Merseyside. 'The Reds' interest in the England international has persisted following their failed attempt to secure his services.' Advertisement Last season wasn't his best, scoring six goals and adding five assists as the Geordies regained their Champions League status. He fell out of the lineup towards the end of the campaign but the England international remains a high-class player. Gordon enjoys a friendship with Curtis Jones and was on Liverpool's books during his schoolboy days.

Aston Villa stance on Morgan Rogers transfer amid Arsenal and Chelsea interest

After an impressive season with Aston Villa there is heavyweight interest in Morgan Rogers from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea this summer. The 22-year-old continued to cement his place as one of the most promising young talents in the country as he starred for Villa in the Premier League and Champions League. His performances were also recognised on the international stage as he won his first four England caps and has become a contender to make it into Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad next summer. Across all competitions he made 54 appearances for Villa over the last campaign, scoring 14 goals. Arsenal and Chelsea are both admirers of the former Manchester City player but Villa have little interest in selling one of their key men. The Daily Mail report that the Villains have 'no plans to cash in on' Rogers this summer, although their financial position is precarious. Villa remain in a dangerous position in terms of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and will look to sell players this summer. Missing out on the Champions League on the final day of last season was a big blow for the club and sales are necessary this summer. Leon Bailey and Jacob Ramsey have been touted as players who are available for sale, with the latter coming with a £40m price tag. Villa do not want to sell homegrown star Ramsey, but he would represent pure profit on PSR and interest from Spurs could be cashed in on. Iconic goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has also been linked with a move, with Manchester United thought to be interested in the World Cup winning stopper. Striker Ollie Watkins also remains of interest to Arsenal after they saw a January bid turned down for the England international. However, he is not top of their shopping list, with Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres attracting more attention. Ramsey, though, is not expected to depart, with the BBC describing him as 'untouchable' in the current transfer window. Ex-England and Aston Villa forward Emile Heskey has warned Ramsey over the possibility of a move to a bigger club, saying he could be lost in the shuffle elsewhere. More Trending 'I think he needs to be really careful,' ex-Aston Villa striker Heskey told Prime Casino. 'He's a huge asset for Villa and right now he's a fantastic player. 'But he's got to choose wisely. If I was him, I would stay at Villa, establish myself and play more football. Because if you go to a theoretically bigger club and you don't play football, you're wasting your talent. 'He's got to play. I love the way that he plays. He plays with enthusiasm, he plays with freedom and he's a very good player. 'So I would suggest he stays at Aston Villa for another season at least.' 'Villa are in safe hands and will remain competitive'

Our chief football writer Phil McNulty has been taking your asked: Asking as an Aston Villa fan, what exactly do you think will be going on at Villa Park this summer? Are we in danger of PSR again and how could that limit our sustained push for more European football?Phil McNulty: Villa will certainly have to trade smartly this summer to keep on the right side of PSR, and I do sympathise with those at Villa Park who almost feel it is a penalty for breaking the glass ceiling into the top four the season before required the sale of Douglas Luiz to Juventus for £42m late on last August to ensure they were on the right side of fact they did not achieve Champions League football for next season is, of course, another is already talk keeper Emi Martinez could leave, while Villa would part with Leon Bailey. Jacob Ramsey has been linked with Spurs, but Villa and their fans would find the sale of the talented local boy close to Rogers is regarded as untouchable, but there will be you can be sure of is that manager Unai Emery, and Villa's ambitious hierarchy, will have a plan in place, but it would have been a lot easier had they been able to get Champions League football next are in safe hands and will remain more from the Q&A with Phil here

Sell Onana, buy Gyokeres

As the transfer window is now open again until 1 September, we asked for you to tell us one player you want to bring to Manchester United and one player you want the club to are some of your comments:Carl: Semenyo in and Sancho out, one brings balance and the other endless Sell Garnacho and buy Gyokeres. He is a proven Onana out, he's just not consistent. Toney in. We need a proven Premier League standard striker. We can't afford another 'let's hope he's good enough' type from a lower standard Sell Luke Shaw and buy Marc Gyokores in and Hojlund out. We need to score more goals and this could be the season defining Sell Onana and replace him with Porto keeper Diogo I would sell Garnacho and buy Wharton. Garnacho should fetch a decent fee and will do wonders from a PSR perspective. He is also a winger which doesn't truly fit Amorim's system. Wharton will bring a genuine, disciplined and athletic deep lying midfield playmaker which will allow Bruno to push up to more attacking areas where he is at his best. It will take a huge fee and wages to convince Palace to sell up and Wharton to go to a club with no European football.
