Indian consumer durable companies likely to see moderate growth in this quarter: Goldman Sachs
New Delhi: Consumer durable companies in India are expected to report moderate growth in the first quarter of the financial year 2025-26 (April-June), according to a recent report by Goldman Sachs. The report mentioned that the overall growth for consumer durables and electrical companies is likely to slow down in the current quarter. It stated "We expect consumer durables and electricals companies' growth to moderate this quarter. While B2B categories have a better outlook". While the business-to-business (B2B) categories are performing better due to strong government capital expenditure in April and continued work on major government-led projects like PM-KUSUM, RDSS, and Bharatnet, the business-to-consumer (B2C) categories are expected to see slower growth during this period. According to the report, demand from B2C segments is still weak, and the real estate-driven demand has not yet picked up. This is especially visible in the cooling products category like air-conditioners and refrigerators, where sales have been on the lower side. As a result, the overall growth expectations for companies covered under consumer durables have come down for this quarter. Goldman Sachs added that although some positive macroeconomic factors like lower inflation, tax cuts, and favourable interest rates are present, their impact on demand and consumer sentiment is likely to be seen only in the second half of FY26. The report also highlighted that companies are facing margin pressures due to negative operating leverage, which means their fixed costs remain high while revenue growth is not strong enough to offset them. However, this margin pressure is being partially managed by lower commodity prices and selective price increases in products. In terms of raw material prices, copper and aluminium have seen a month-on-month increase in May and June. This may lead to some restocking by companies.

Chief Minister to inaugurate Kusum-C project on June 11
Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyaan (PM KUSUM)–C project, which will provide farmers with reliable daytime electricity by installing solar units near agricultural electricity feeders will be officially launched by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on June 11 at Gauribidanur of Chikkaballapura district, said Energy Minister K.J. George. Speaking at a curtain raiser press conference on Monday, he said, 'Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and Consumer Affairs, Food and Ration Distribution Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Nayak, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Ministers Krishna Byre Gowda, M.C. Sudhakar, and others will be participated.' The KUSUM–C scheme aims to provide farmers with reliable daytime electricity by installing solar units near agricultural electricity feeders. These units will generate power locally, which will then be supplied to agricultural pump sets through the feeders. This localized generation ensures the delivery of high-quality power, the Minister noted. In Gauribidanur taluk's Thondebhavi Hobli, a 20 MW solar unit has been established across approximately 60 acres in the villages of Hanumenahalli and Charakamattenahalli. This is the largest solar installation under the KUSUM–C scheme in Karnataka to date, which is why Gauribidanur was chosen for the scheme's official launch. The land for the project has been leased from private owners for a period of 25 years, he added. Further the Minister stated that, the KUSUM–C scheme, introduced four to five years ago, was initially put on hold in the State. However, after our government came to power, we decided to implement the scheme and invited tenders. The central government provides a subsidy of ₹1.05 crore for generating 1 mw of solar power, which significantly reduces the cost of establishment of the Solar Power System for the RESCO developers. 'The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission has fixed a maximum rate of ₹3.17 per unit of electricity, ensuring affordable and reliable power supply for farmers. In the first phase of the scheme, we aim to generate 2,400 megawatts of solar electricity through the solarisation of agricultural feeders. This will provide quality daytime electricity to around 6,19,000 (6 lakh 19 thousand) agrarian pump sets, significantly reducing their energy costs and ensuring a reliable power supply,' he explained.

Horti dept offers 50% subsidy on solar pumps for Mysuru, Chamarajanagar farmers
Mysuru: The horticulture department has introduced a 50% subsidy on solar-powered irrigation pumps for growers in Mysuru and Chamarajanagar. Under the scheme, Rs 1 lakh will be provided for a 3 HP solar pump and Rs 3 lakh for a 5 HP pump. The initiative not only reduces operational costs, but also promotes sustainable irrigation over diesel or grid-powered systems. Farmers cultivating horticulture crops in their fields can apply for the scheme without the condition of having drip irrigation and sprinkler systems installed to avail themselves of the benefit. The department has given preference to small and marginal farmers in the first phase and plans to extend the scheme to others later. To obtain this benefit for the installation of solar pumps from the horticulture department, farmers must submit a written affidavit certified by Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited, stating that they did not benefit from KREDL and did not avail themselves of the benefit from the PM KUSUM scheme. Farmers must install solar pumps after purchasing them from a certified company from the state energy department at their own cost, then claim the subsidy amount after full installation from the department, he said. He mentioned that apart from providing a 50% subsidy for the installation of solar pumps, his department has also provided a 75% subsidy to encourage honeybee farming for general category farmers and a 90% subsidy for SC/ST farmers. Speaking to TOI, deputy director of horticulture of Mysuru district, Manjunath Angadi said that the department has already given instructions to all taluk assistant directors of horticulture to start identifying the beneficiaries to avail themselves of the subsidy benefit for the installation of solar pumps in their horticulture fields and start distributing subsidies after the completion of installation. The department has decided to encourage farmers to adopt such renewable energy solutions by installing solar pumps. This scheme is entirely different from the PM Kusum scheme, he said.

Farming meets solar in U.P's clean energy drive
In a significant step towards promoting clean energy, Uttar Pradesh has issued letters of agreement (LoAs) to over 100 developers for establishing solar power plants with a combined capacity of more than 1,527 MW aimed at supplying solar power to agriculture feeders. These solar power plants will be set up under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyaan (PM KUSUM) C-2 scheme. The initiative targets solarisation of approximately 5,000 agriculture feeders, ensuring eight hours of uninterrupted daytime power supply to tubewells/pump-sets for irrigation. The UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) has already segregated around 80% of the agriculture feeders from the domestic ones for assured and reliable power supply for fixed eight hours for irrigation. 'The UP government has fixed the target of generating 2,000 MW of solar power under KUSUM C-2 by 2027 and against it we have already issued LoAs for more than 1,51,527.2 MW of solar power to over 100 developers who will set up solar plants adjacent to the identified sub-stations catering to separate agriculture feeders,' UPNEDA secretary and chief project officer, Pankaj Singh said. The UPPCL will procure the solar power generated under the scheme for 25 years for ₹2.99 per unit, ensuring stable revenue for developers and long-term income for farmers. 'The scheme provides an opportunity for farmers and landowners to lease barren or unutilised land to solar power developers under pre-fixed agreements. UPNEDA has developed a dedicated online portal where interested farmers can register their land free of cost for leasing. Solar plants can be set up within a 5-10 km radius of identified substations, requiring around four acres per megawatt of capacity,' project officer Rakesh Agrawal said. The financial framework for developers includes a maximum central assistance of ₹1.05 lakh per MW and a state government grant of ₹50 lakh per MW as Viability Gap Funding, totaling ₹1.55 crore per MW. Under the scheme, farmers/ group of farmers/ panchayat / cooperative / Farmer Producers Organization (FPO) and project developers can participate in the tender. Also, under the scheme, farmer's land near the selected substations is to be leased by the selected Solar Power Project Developer for 27 years at a mutually agreed lease rent which will ensure a steady income for the farmers. 'For farmers, the scheme ensures a steady income through land lease payments and reliable daytime solar power for irrigation. Developers benefit from access to land, guaranteed power purchase agreements, and government incentives. DISCOMs gain access to affordable solar power, reducing power purchase costs and AT&C losses, 'Agrawal explained. The developers selected through a competitive bidding process will have six months' time to set up the plant at the identified sites from the date of the letter of agreement.
