Rep. Jasmine Crockett insists ‘granddaddy' Biden's acuity ‘supreme' compared to Trump
Firebrand Rep. Jasmine Crockett defended former President Joe Biden's mental acuity and argued that his cognition was 'supreme' compared to President Trump during a recent podcast interview. Shrugging off bombshell revelations about Biden's decline from the new book 'Original Sin' and elsewhere, Crockett (D-Texas) underscored that she 'never saw anything' from the 46th president that caused her to question his infirmity. 'Even if we want to say — which I refuse to accept — that Joe Biden was mentally deficient, let me tell you something, his mental deficiency is still a thousand times better than what we currently have,' Crockett said on Katie Couric's 'Next Question' podcast in an episode that dropped Thursday. Advertisement 'I just wish that, ultimately, this country would judge each of our leaders with the same measuring stick.' Questions about Biden's cognitive abilities reached a fever pitch almost exactly a year ago in the aftermath of his fumbling debate performance against Trump, in which he repeatedly lost his train of thought and appeared stone-faced at times, mouth agape. 3 The Texas congresswoman said in her personal experience with him, former President Joe Biden seemed fine. AP The stunning debate prompted a revolt among Democrats that ultimately culminated with Biden dropping out of the race in July of last year. Recently, those dramatic events have been revisited in the bombshell book 'Original Sin' by star Axios reporter Alex Thompson and CNN anchor Jake Tapper, triggering soul searching among Democrats over Biden, who announced his prostate cancer diagnosis last month. On Wednesday, the GOP-led Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on Biden's use of autopen and his supposed cognitive decline. The House Oversight Committee is conducting a similar probe. She likened his condition to that of her grandmother, whom the rep said 'mentally she was still there' despite aging and slowing down. 3 President Trump has publicly bashed Rep. Jasmine Crockett. AP 'We all slow down. But I will tell you that I will take a broken — or however they want to describe Joe Biden — over Donald Trump any given day, because, number one, I know Joe Biden's heart,' the Texas Democrat contended. 'Even if you're saying that there was a mentally deficient Joe Biden, I know that he absolutely had a mental acuity that is supreme when it comes to comparing him to Donald Trump, because at least he kept good people around him.' Advertisement The outspoken Texas congresswoman also recalled her personal interactions with Biden to argue that he was not in significant decline during his time running the country. 'The average person has not been given the level of access that the average member of Congress has to the president,' she explained. 'I never saw anything in Joe Biden that made me wonder whatsoever, and it's not that I was with Joe Biden every single day, that's for sure. But as I talked about my grandparents — the way that I would describe Joe is like, I mean, he's a granddaddy, right?'

Seth Meyers skips asking George Clooney about Biden's mental decline, not recognizing him at fundraiser
NBC "Late Night" host Seth Meyers interviewed Hollywood star George Clooney on Monday but failed to question the actor about the report that former President Joe Biden failed to recognize the a-list actor at his own 2024 campaign fundraiser or any of the news about the ex-president's mental decline in office. Just weeks after CNN host Jake Tapper and Axios journalist Alex Thompson revealed in their book "Original Sin" that Biden allegedly failed to recognize Clooney backstage at a June fundraiser last year, Meyers chose not to ask the actor about the incident — or even mention the former president during the entire interview. Approximately one month following the reported incident, Clooney wrote a guest essay in The New York Times calling for Biden to be replaced as the Democratic nominee due to his declining mental acuity. Rather than questioning the Hollywood star about the reported fundraiser incident, Meyers centered the interview around Clooney's acting career and his recent Tony Award nomination for his play "Good Night, and Good Luck." His omission of Biden was first flagged by Mediaite. Despite all the attention "Original Sin" has generated, liberal comedians Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert have not mentioned any of the revelations, according to Grabien transcripts. The three hosts were all strong supporters of Biden's presidency, and Kimmel and Colbert helped fundraise for him last year. The liberal hosts have all welcomed Biden for friendly interviews, the last time being on "Late Night with Seth Meyers" in February 2024, just days after the release of the Hur report. Meyers gently broached the subject of Biden's age before quickly moving on to other topics. Special Counsel Robert Hur, who conducted the investigation into Biden's mishandling of classified documents, wrote in his report that he declined to bring charges against the former president in part because a jury would likely not find him guilty due to a perception that he was a "sympathetic, well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory." Meyers called Hur's comments a "gratuitous hypothetical" and stressed that Hur was a "Republican attorney" who "was originally appointed by Trump." "If that kind of language was appropriate in a legal finding, then prosecutors could have done the same thing to Trump," Meyers said before repeatedly drawing attention to President Donald Trump's mental acuity.

Jake Tapper ripped on C-SPAN while plugging book on Biden's decline: ‘I really don't like you'
CNN anchor Jake Tapper faced sharp criticism from a caller on C-SPAN Tuesday over his new book about former President Joe Biden's cognitive decline, with the woman accusing him of unfair coverage and bias toward the current president, Donald Trump. Tapper appeared on Tuesday's edition of 'Washington Journal' to discuss 'Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again,' the bestselling book he co-wrote with Axios reporter Alex Thompson. During the C-SPAN call-in show, Tapper was confronted by Sarah, a caller from Virginia who voiced frustration over what she saw as one-sided reporting. 4 A C-SPAN caller bluntly told CNN anchor Jake Tapper 'I don't really like you' while he was plugging his book about former President Biden's decline on Tuesday. C-SPAN 'I watch you on CNN,' she began. 'But right now, I really don't like you. I think you're doing a disservice to Joe and also to the American people.' Sarah questioned why Tapper hasn't applied the same level of scrutiny to Trump's behavior and fitness for office. 'When are you going to examine what is going on with Trump? Joe Biden conducted himself for four years taking care of the United States. He took meetings. He went overseas. He negotiated with other leaders,' she said. 'This president has been pure chaos, which indicates to me that there is something wrong with him. We will never get a straight answer on his medical examinations, what medication he is on, and yet you have gone after Joe Biden with a vengeance that… I'm very disappointed in you.' The caller said she used to enjoy Tapper's show 'The Lead,' but that his recent focus had changed her view. 'And I think right now you ought to start writing another book examining Trump and how erratic [he is] and what he is doing, calling out the National Guard, the Marines, and everybody,' she added. 'When has a president ever done that? It's pure erratic!' Tapper, who has acknowledged that he failed to adequately devote scrutiny to the question of Biden's fitness while he was president despite apparent signs of his decline, responded calmly, defending his coverage and encouraging viewers to tune into his daily CNN broadcast. 4 Tapper appeared on Tuesday's edition of 'Washington Journal' to discuss the book he co-wrote with Alex Thompson of Axios. Joe Biden via REUTERS 'Sarah, as you know from watching my show on CNN, we cover President Trump every day for two hours — every day from 5 to 7 Eastern — and we cover all the things you talk about, in terms of the current president's behavior,' he said. He pointed to past instances where Trump confused public figures, saying, 'We have covered the times that he has confused Nancy Pelosi with Nikki Haley.' 'I think some of the questions about President Trump's behavior have more to do with personality than with cognitive decline,' Tapper added. 'Whatever lessons we've learned from covering President Biden, we would apply to any politician,' he continued. 'So I'm sorry if I'm disappointing you by covering President Biden. But journalists, we are supposed to cover stories that we think the American people have a right to know, that we think will enhance their understanding of how the country is run.' Tapper closed the exchange by reaffirming his belief in the book. 'We are proud of this book,' he said, adding that CNN would continue to cover current events in the days ahead. 4 The book alleges that White House aides worked to conceal the then-president's deteriorating mental and physical condition during his time in office. REUTERS 'Washington Journal' is a live, daily call-in program on C-SPAN that gives viewers the chance to directly engage with elected officials, journalists, policy experts and other public figures about current political and policy issues. It typically airs every morning, seven days a week, and covers a wide range of topics including legislation, national events, and public affairs. The show is known for its unfiltered, interactive format whereby viewers call in and ask questions or share opinions live on-air — often divided by political affiliation. 'Everyone knows that C-SPAN callers are cranky and that's part of the charm of the show,' a media source told The Post. Unlike many news programs, 'Washington Journal' maintains a nonpartisan approach, providing a neutral platform for discussion and civic engagement. 4 The book, 'Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again,' has become a bestseller. AFP via Getty Images The book alleges that White House aides worked to conceal the then-president's deteriorating mental and physical condition during his time in office. Since its release, Tapper has made headlines by calling the alleged cover-up 'worse than Watergate' and describing Hunter Biden as acting like the 'chief of staff of the family.' He has also stated that 'conservative media was right' to raise concerns about Biden's age. House Republicans have already cited the book to justify an expanded investigation into what they claim is a cover-up of Biden's health. A representative for Tapper declined to comment when reached by The Post.

Jake Tapper gets scolded by C-SPAN caller over Biden book: ‘I really don't like you'
Jake Tapper found himself on the receiving end of a C-SPAN caller's fury on Tuesday, which saw the CNN anchor being scolded by the Virginia woman and apparent Joe Biden fan for 'doing a disservice to Joe' and the 'American people' over his book about the former president's cognitive decline. Over the past few weeks, Tapper has been on a relentless media tour promoting Original Sin, the bestseller he co-wrote with Axios correspondent Alex Thompson that alleges a White House 'cover-up' of Biden's declining mental and physical health during the second half of his presidency. Throughout his media appearances hawking the book, Tapper has claimed that the alleged cover-up of Biden's diminishment could be 'worse than Watergate,' Biden's 'sleazy' son Hunter acted like the 'chief of staff of the family,' and that 'conservative media was right' about the former president's age-related issues. The book, meanwhile, has already been cited by House Republicans to justify and expand an investigation 'into the cover-up of President Joe Biden's mental decline,' which also includes Donald Trump's allegations that Biden aides abused the power of the presidency by using an autopen to sign pardons. Trump, meanwhile, has admitted he has no proof to back up his claims. Appearing on C-SPAN's call-in show Washington Journal on Tuesday to discuss Original Sin, Tapper was soon confronted by a woman named Sarah from Virginia, who let the CNN star know in no uncertain terms that she didn't appreciate his reporting on Biden. 'I watch you on CNN,' she started. 'But right now, I really don't like you. I think you're doing a disservice to Joe and also to the American people.' Sarah then wanted to know when Tapper was going to turn his attention towards the current occupant of the White House, all while demanding that the 79-year-old Trump face the same amount of scrutiny over his age as Biden. 'When are you going to examine what is going on with Trump? Joe Biden conducted himself for four years taking care of the United States. He took meetings. He went overseas. He negotiated with other leaders,' she said. 'This president has been pure chaos, which indicates to me that there is something wrong with him,' the caller continued. 'We will never get a straight answer on his medical examinations, what medication he is on, and yet you have gone after Joe Biden with a vengeance that… I'm very disappointed in you.' While Tapper sat stoically, Sarah let him know that while she used to 'enjoy watching' his CNN show The Lead, those days were over. 'And I think right now you ought to start writing another book examining Trump and how erratic [he is] and what he is doing, calling out the National Guard, the Marines, and everybody<' she concluded. 'When has a president ever done that? It's pure erratic!' Tapper, while making sure C-SPAN viewers knew when his show aired during the weekdays, defended his coverage of the current president while suggesting that his reporting on Biden could be applied to Trump and others down the line. 'Sarah, as you know from watching my show on CNN, we cover President Trump every day for two hours — every day from 5 to 7 Eastern — and we cover all the things you talk about, in terms of the current president's behavior,' he stated. 'We have covered the times that he has confused Nancy Pelosi with Nikki Haley.' Saying that he thinks 'some of the questions about President Trump's behavior have more to do with personality than with cognitive decline,' Tapper noted that 'whatever lessons we've learned from covering President Biden, we would apply to any politician' now or in the future. 'So I'm sorry if I'm disappointing you by covering President Biden,' he declared. 'But journalists, we are supposed to cover stories that we think the American people have a right to know, that we think will enhance their understanding of how the country is run.' After telling Sarah that he and Thompson 'are proud of this book,' he reminded her that if she tuned into CNN 'later today, tomorrow, the next day, you'll see we're continuing to focus on' current events.

Newsom tries to give Trump the Biden treatment, says he's 'not all there'
Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., said President Donald Trump had seemingly lost a step mentally in a new interview, in an unmistakable comparison to Joe Biden. During an episode of The New York Times' "The Daily" podcast published Thursday, the California governor accused Trump of being "not all there," saying that the president's been making up a different reality than what is actually going on with the federal government's response to the unrest in Los Angeles. "And he's not all there. I mean that," Newsom told Times podcast host Michael Barbaro, who seemed to be stunned by the description. As Newsom told it, Trump's behavior regarding the riots has been erratic and unhinged. "Then I talked to the president. Hours later, to your point, I wake up, and I'm Newscum again," he said, referencing a nickname Trump has called the governor on multiple occasions. "Wow," Barbaro replied. "Yeah, it's the President of the United States calling someone scum, Newscum, which is, for what it's worth, what I think a seventh grader used to call me on Baltimore Street in Corte Madera, California," Newsom continued. "He begins the day with that, and then talks about the National Guard, and then starts making up all these things he claimed he told me about, which honestly starts to disturb me on a different level that maybe he actually believed he said those things." When Barbaro prompted him to clarify his "not all there" claim, the governor replied, "I don't know. Honestly, he literally a few days later talked about a conversation he had with me after he announced his 700 U.S. Marines to be deployed for domestic law enforcement in the United States of America. That's blatantly against [the] law. He claimed he had another conversation with me." In another interview, Newsom told Fox LA that Trump has "lost it" and not the same person he was four years ago. However, Newsom had no reservations about former President Biden's mental fitness when even Democratic figures were calling it out. After Biden's disastrous debate with Trump last summer, Newsom rejected the idea that Biden should step away from re-election, telling CBS News, "I'm all in, no daylight." Last year on "Meet the Press," Newsom said he'd seen Biden up close and said his age was what made him successful. Biden's mental decline in office has been a hot topic since he left office, coming to a head last month after the book "Original Sin" outlined alarming examples while he was still president. Trump, who turns 79 on Saturday, will break Biden's record as the oldest president ever by the end of his second term. Newsom and Trump have been feuding over the president's response to the Los Angeles riots that began after Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations commenced downtown last week. Trump ordered the U.S. National Guard and subsequently 700 U.S. Marines into the city to support local law enforcement. Newsom spoke out against the actions, calling them a "brazen abuse of power" during a televised address on Tuesday night. Democrats have claimed Trump exacerbated the situation to benefit himself politically. The White House did not immediately reply to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
