Wicklow gardaí arrest two men ‘hiding in wardrobe'
Bray People Today at 05:44 Two men have been arrested by gardaí in Greystones following reports of suspicious activity in the area on Thursday, June 19. Gardaí immediately responded, discovering two males "hiding in a wardrobe' in a residential property in the Killincarrig area of the town. Gardaí from the Wicklow North Community Engagement area said they arrested the two males (40s) under Operation Thor, having responded to reports of an incident at the residence at approximately 2.30pm. When gardaí arrived to the scene, they searched the residence and discovered both men attempting to evade gardaí. The two men were conveyed to Bray Garda Station and are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. The men were found in possession of a bag containing property that has since been identified as belonging to the homeowners, and has been returned. Investigations are ongoing.

Men arrested in Greystones after home burglary interrupted by gardaí
Two men were arrested in Greystones after gardaí were called to the scene of a burglary at a home in the Wicklow town on Thursday afternoon. Gardaí from the Wicklow North Community Engagement area arrested the men in their 40s under Operation Thor, which was initially set up to tackle rural burglaries across the country. The arrests were made at around 2:30pm after gardaí responded to a report of an incident at a home. When they arrived at the property they conducted a search and discovered the men attempting to flee the scene. READ MORE They were found to be in possession of a bag with items that were identified as belonging to the homeowners. The items were subsequently returned to the owners. The two men were brought to Bray Garda station where they were being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. Investigations are ongoing.

Two men arrested after attempting to 'evade Gardai' following burglary incident
Two men have been arrested after trying to "evade gardai" following a burglary incident at a home in Co Wicklow. Gardaí from Wicklow North Community Engagement responded following a report of an incident occurring at a residence in Greystones at approximately 2.30pm on Thursday afternoon. When Gardaí arrived to the scene, they carried out a search of the residence and "discovered both men attempting to evade Gardaí," according to a garda spokesperson. The two men, both aged in their 40s, were taken to Bray Garda Station and are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. The men were found in possession of a bag containing property that has since been identified as belonging to the homeowners, and has been returned. The garda spokesperson said that investigations are ongoing. The arresters were carried out as part of Operation Thor, which was launched in November 2015 with the aim of detecting and preventing incidents of burglary and associated criminal activity by undertaking targeted enforcement and preventative activity. This initiative continues to have a positive impact on the reduction of property related crime in Irish communities. Since Operation Thor was established a reduction of approximately 75 per cent in residential burglaries has been recorded between 2016 and 2023. Between January 1, 2024, and December 11, 2024, 2,058 arrests and 4,663 charges and summons were recorded in association with Operation Thor. Gardaí confirm theft of cattle trailer in Co. Cavan
Gardaí are investigating the theft of a cattle trailer, which was stolen from a yard in Mullagh, Co. Cavan. According to An Garda Síochána, trailers are one of the most commonly stolen items of farm machinery. They have also indicated that these type of thefts have an 'increased occurrence' in spring and autumn, potentially because of increased farming activity during these months. An Garda Síochána has confirmed that the Hamilton cattle trailer was stolen between 3:00pm on Saturday, June 7 and 10:00am on Monday, June 9. The investigation into the theft is ongoing. Gardaí An Garda Síochána continues to urge farmers to protect their property and farm machinery and has issued some key theft prevention advice including: Restrict access to your property; Consider appropriate signage such as private property; Install gates and fix them to a sturdy concrete or metal post; Illuminate areas which are overlooked from the dwelling; Consider installing CCTV for areas out of view of the farmhouse; Store tools and smaller machinery in a building, close to the farmhouse, with enhanced security features. Meanwhile last month gardaí reported a decrease in burglaries and robberies in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, when compared to the same period last year. According to provisional crime statistics, the level of property crime has decreased across all crime types in Q1 2025. Gardaí said that aggravated burglaries were down by 29% and residential burglaries dropped by 17% in the period. The provisional data shows that March 2025 had the lowest level of recorded residential burglary since 2021. During Q1 2025, there was an average of approximately 15 residential burglaries per day across the 26 counties, or less than 1 residential burglary per day per county. In the 10 years of Operation Thor, recorded residential burglaries during the winter phase (October – March) have dropped by 75%. Operation Thor actively targets organised crime gangs and repeat offenders through co-ordinated crime prevention and enforcement activity based on intelligence and the latest burglary trends.

Gardaí investigating stolen quad in Co. Galway
An Garda Síochána in Co. Galway are investigating the burglary of a quad bike, which took place between 10:00p.m on Friday, May 30, 2025 and 8:30a.m the next day, May 31. According to the Gardaí, the quad bike was taken from the rear of the property. A Garda spokesperson said: 'Anybody who was in the area and noticed any suspicious activity is asked to contact Tuam Garda Station on 093 70840 or the Garda confidential line on 1900 666 111. Gardaí In other news, last month Gardaí reported a decrease in burglaries and robberies in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, when compared to the same period last year. According to provisional crime statistics, the level of property crime has decreased across all crime types in Q1 2025. Gardaí said that aggravated burglaries were down by 29% and residential burglaries dropped by 17% in the period. The data shows that robbery was down by 25%, with robbery from a person decreasing by 27% and a 3% fall in the theft of vehicles. Thefts from vehicles were down 32% when compared to Q1 2024, theft from a person were back by 30% and thefts from shops fell by 6%. Nationally, crimes against the person were down 5%. The largest decreases were reported in the southern region (17%).
