Delhi Police arrests over 100 narco-offenders, seizes drugs and illegal arms
In a massive crackdown against narco-offenders and organised crime, the Delhi Police carried out Operation Kavach 8.0 across the city, conducting simultaneous raids at 1,040 locations in all 15 police districts, including operations by the crime branch and special cell, the officials said. The drive also led to the arrest of 55 persons under the Gambling Act with ₹ 25,592 in cash. (Representational image) Special commissioner of police (crime) said that the 24-hour drive, which began on Wednesday evening at 6 pm, led to the arrest of 139 narco-offenders in 133 NDPS cases, with the recovery of 90.3 grams of heroin, 25.9 kilograms of ganja, 3.32 grams of cocaine, 4.63 grams of MDMA, 20.08 grams amphetamine, and 12 buprenorphine tablets. 'The crackdown also extended to liquor, arms, and gambling offences. As many as 217 cases were registered under the Delhi Excise Act, resulting in the arrest of 224 individuals and seizure of 47,476 quarters of illicit liquor, along with 125 beer bottles and 158 cans. Additionally, 30 people were arrested under the Arms Act, with seizures including eight pistols, seven live cartridges, three magazines, and 23 knives,' he said. The drive also led to the arrest of 55 persons under the Gambling Act with ₹ 25,592 in cash, and 5,682 people were taken into preventive custody. Under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2,031 violators were prosecuted and one individual arrested, with recovery of 8.56 packets (469 e-cigarettes and 1.71 lakh banned foreign cigarettes). 'Among the key arrests was that of Ekanjot Singh Sandhu, 18, of Punjab, from whom four semi-automatic pistols and three magazines were recovered. Another accused, Sachin alias Hemu, 26, was arrested at Delhi University metro station with a country-made pistol and four live cartridges. In another case, the crime branch recovered 7,550 quarters of illicit liquor from a tempo in Mundka and 10,000 quarters from a mini-van in Madipur. Meanwhile, 1,48,200 prohibited foreign cigarettes were seized from a godown in old Delhi and 469 e-cigarettes from a Safdarjung Enclave paan shop,' the special CP said. It may be noted that Operation Kavach is part of a zero-tolerance approach inspired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah's directives for stringent action against drug syndicates. 'This sustained campaign has disrupted trafficking networks and forced major players underground,' added Srivastava.

In a single-day crackdown under the Delhi Police's 'Operation Kavach 8.0', 139 narcotics offenders were arrested and 133 cases were filed under the NDPS Act, officers said on Friday. The operation was conducted between 6 pm on Wednesday and 6 pm on Thursday. It resulted in the seizure of 90.3 grams of heroin, 25.9 kg of ganja, 3.32 grams of cocaine, 4.63 grams of MDMA, 20.08 grams of amphetamine, and 12 buprenorphine tablets, said police. The operation was carried out by over 350 teams from all 15 districts, the Crime Branch, and the Special Cell, covering 1,040 targeted locations. It was supervised by senior officers, including Special Commissioner of Police, Crime, Devesh Chandra Srivastava, and Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Surender Singh. Alongside NDPS enforcement, 224 people were arrested in 217 Excise Act cases, with the seizure of 47,476 illicit quarter bottles of liquor. Thirty persons were held in 29 Arms Act cases, leading to the recovery of pistols, cartridges, and knives. In addition, 55 gamblers were arrested and over Rs 25,000 in cash was seized. Police also prosecuted 2,031 violators under the Tobacco Act, seized over 1.7 lakh prohibited foreign cigarettes, and intercepted e-cigarettes worth Rs 9.38 lakh. An 18-year-old linked to the anti-Lawrence Bishnoi gang was also caught with four semi-automatic pistols. Officials said the crackdown has pushed major traffickers underground and disrupted smuggling networks. 'Under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2,031 violators were prosecuted and one person was arrested with over 1.71 lakh prohibited foreign cigarettes and 469 e-cigarettes,' said the Srivastava. Prohibited e-cigarettes worth around Rs 9.38 lakh were also seized from a shop in Safdarjung Enclave, police said. The senior police officer said that since January 2025, a total of 1,439 narco-offenders have been arrested in 1,127 NDPS cases, with seizures of nearly 38 kg of heroin, over 3,000 kg of cannabis, and other contraband. New Delhi: Delhi Police arrested 139 narco-offenders in a 24-hour operation across 15 districts, under Operation Kavach 8.0. Over 1,000 simultaneous raids were conducted resulting in a haul of illegal drugs, liquor, arms, and contraband items, along with the registration of multiple cases under various legal provisions. According to police, the operation was carried out from 6 pm on June 18 to 6 pm on June 19. "A total of 133 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were registered, with the arrest of 139 drug offenders. Seized substances included 90.3 grams of heroin, 25.9 kg of ganja, 3.32 grams of cocaine, 4.63 grams of MDMA, 20.08 grams of amphetamine, and 12 buprenorphine tablets," Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) Devesh Chandra Srivastva said. The operation, executed by 350 police teams comprising personnel from all 15 districts, also led to action on several other fronts, including the arrest of 224 people in 217 cases under the Delhi Excise Act. Police seized 47,476 quarters of illicit liquor, 125 beer bottles, and 158 beer cans. Additionally, 30 individuals were arrested in 29 cases under the Arms Act. In 28 cases under the Gambling Act, 55 people were arrested and cash was recovered. A total of 5,682 individuals were taken into preventive custody, and 494 vehicles were seized under Section 66 of the Delhi Police Act. Also, 2,031 violators were prosecuted under COTPA (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act. while one person was arrested with 469 e-cigarettes and 1.71 lakh prohibited foreign cigarettes.
