Swinburne Sarawak celebrates 25 years with Open Day series across state, Sabah
Visit any of Swinburne Sarawak's Open Day events across Sarawak and Sabah to explore programme offerings, scholarship opportunities, and more. KUCHING (June 6): Prospective students interested in pursuing a globally-recognised Australian education closer to home are invited to Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus' Open Day events across Sarawak and Sabah. Open Day events will be held in Limbang, Kota Kinabalu, Lawas, Sarikei, Kapit, Sri Aman, Sandakan and Tawau, giving students and parents a chance to explore Swinburne's offerings and opportunities firsthand. The series of Open Days will kick off on June 7 at Purnama Hotel in Limbang, from 9am to 2pm. The next stop will be Hyatt Regency, Kota Kinabalu, on June 8, from 10am to 4pm. This will be followed by five more sessions on June 14 at the following venues: Hotel Seri Malaysia, Lawas (9am to 2pm); The Coffee Code, Sarikei (12pm to 4pm); Hotel Meligai, Kapit (9am to 2pm); Hotel Sri Simanggang, Sri Aman (12pm to 4pm); and T4, Sandakan (12pm to 4pm). The final event will be held on June 15, from 12pm to 4pm at Richiamo Café, Tawau. These events are open to all members of the public, especially school leavers, offering a close-up view of Swinburne's teaching and learning facilities, vibrant campus life, accommodation options, international exchange, and transfer opportunities. Attendees will be able to speak directly with Swinburne Sarawak's education counsellors to learn more about its wide-ranging programmes in business, computing, design, engineering, quantity surveying, science, arts, media, and education. Students will also be introduced to the university's newest offerings, the Bachelor of Cyber Security and the Bachelor of Data Science, programmes designed to prepare digital-ready graduates for the future. Scholarships and financial aid options will be highlighted during the events, including Swinburne's internal merit scholarships and external schemes such as Yayasan Sarawak's initiatives – the BP40 Bursary Scheme and the English Enhancement Programme (EEP). The BP40 Bursary Scheme enables eligible Sarawakian Bumiputera students to pursue their studies at Swinburne Sarawak with tuition fees comparable to those at Malaysian public universities. The EEP, meanwhile, offers Sarawakian students a free four-week course to boost English proficiency and help them adapt to university life. On-the-spot applications will be accepted during the events. Eligible students can receive a Letter of Offer on the same day. For application purposes, students are advised to bring along a copy of their MyKad or passport, and academic transcripts or certificates (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia, Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia, Unified Examination Certificate, O-Level, A-Level, etc.). Community turns up in droves at historic building in Wexford for final time ahead of regeneration project
Gorey Guardian Today at 07:00 Wexford County Council hosted successful Open Days at the Gorey Market House recently, where members of the community and visitors to Gorey were given the chance to see the iconic building as it stands before the initial phase of the regeneration project begins. The Market House, located on Main Street, holds a significant place in the town's history. The affection the local community have for the building was evident in the interest and enthusiasm shown for the regeneration project during the open days. District Manager Philip Knight expressed his gratitude to the large public turnout, highlighting the strong community connection to the building. 'We are thrilled by the overwhelming interest and support shown during these Open Days. The Market House will soon be transformed into a vibrant social and community hub, inspired by the innovative European Bauhaus Principles that guide this regeneration project,' he said. During the open days on Friday, May 23 and Saturday, May 24, local historian, Willie Willoughby, conducted talks on the rich history of the Market House. Attendees were captivated by stories recently uncovered, including the early days of the Gorey Credit Union operating within the building and a story about how a friendship began when two ladies received keys to their new home many years ago in the chamber office. Throughout the Open Days, video interviews were conducted with local residents, business owners, and community groups to capture their memories and hopes for the future of the Market House. These interviews will form part of ongoing project updates to keep the public informed as the regeneration progresses. Catherine Connaughton, Project Officer from the EU Programmes Division of the Southern Regional Assembly, was also present for the open days. 'The incredible community response to the Gorey Market House Open Days reflects exactly what THRIVE is all about, putting people, place and pride in local heritage at the heart of local development. "By working with the community to reimagine this historic space, we're supporting a shared vision for a vibrant, inclusive town centre. It was a pleasure to hear memories from those connected to this building over the years,' said Catherine. The Gorey Market House project is co-funded by the Government of Ireland, the European Union through the ERDF Southern, Eastern and Midland Regional Programme 2021–2027, and Wexford County Council.

DGSN Open Days Highlight Strong Commitment of Mounted Police to Tourist Safety in Morocco
The Open Days of the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) in El Jadida offer visitors a unique opportunity to learn about the Mounted Police's role in promoting tourist safety in Morocco, and its contribution to the protection of citizens and their property. Mounted Police units complement the work of other security services by carrying out surveillance and control operations using horses, whose ability to adapt to a variety of environments is a major asset, particularly in tourist areas, natural areas or areas with steep slopes. In this context, the head of the Equestrian Police division at the DGSN, Mohammed Bouhallouch, said that, as part of its proximity policy, the DGSN had set up this unit to provide security coverage in places that are difficult for vehicles and motorcycles to access, such as parks, urban forests and beaches, among others. In a statement to MAP, Bouhallouch stressed that, as part of its drive to strengthen community policing, the DGSN ensures a continuous presence of its officers in these natural and tourist areas, in order to guarantee the safety of citizens in general and tourists in particular, enabling them to enjoy these areas in complete peace of mind. He added that, thanks to its mounted units, the DGSN is working to reinforce the sense of security by monitoring areas that are difficult for conventional intervention vehicles to access, such as beaches and forests, while also helping to maintain public order during sporting and major cultural events. The Mounted Police stand, set up as part of these communication days, this year focuses on equestrian-related professions, given their essential role in preserving the health and safety of horses, as well as enhancing their ability to carry out the security missions entrusted to them, he pointed out. These professions include saddler, responsible for the manufacture, repair and maintenance of equestrian equipment (reins, bridles, saddles); groom, responsible for cleaning and equipping horses, ensuring their comfort in a healthy environment and overseeing their diet; farrier, specialized in shoeing and hoof maintenance; and veterinary assistant, who monitors the health of horses and guarantees a healthy and suitable living environment. Morocco's DGSN Rolls Out ‘AMANE': New AI-Powered Police Patrol Vehicle
Doha – Morocco's General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has introduced 'AMANE' – meaning 'safety' – a new intelligent patrol vehicle that catapults the country's security capabilities into elite technological territory. The DGSN showcased the prototype at the 6th edition of its Open Days in El Jadida, where it quickly captured visitors' attention. Moroccan engineers from the DGSN fully developed AMANE themselves. The vehicle delivers a considerable technological leap in security logistics, integrating cutting-edge technology and artificial intelligence systems. The intelligent patrol vehicle features a network of onboard cameras that enable real-time license plate reading and facial recognition to identify wanted persons. These functions rely on deep learning algorithms devised by the DGSN's technical team. 'This patrol is equipped with advanced technological devices and artificial intelligence systems developed by the technical team in charge of these projects within the Direction,' explained Youness Kerbid, controller general and head of software monitoring and methodology at DGSN. AMANE also includes a 360-degree camera and a drone, providing extensive visual coverage of the surrounding environment. This enhancement considerably strengthens police surveillance and vigilance capabilities. The vehicle is based on Toyota's Land Cruiser 4×4 but has been specially adapted for patrol duties. It features a centralized digital command system for instant communication with command centers. An intelligent alert system capable of detecting suspicious behavior or vehicles in violation in real time is also incorporated into the vehicle's technology suite. According to Kerbid, who also oversees AI project development at DGSN, the main challenge in designing this vehicle was leveraging the technical expertise acquired by the team. They have been developing systems for about three years, focusing on real-time license plate reading through urban camera networks and facial recognition for provincial judicial identification services. This innovation aligns with DGSN's strategy to modernize police operations through intelligent solutions that keep pace with technological developments. The goal is to better meet security requirements and maintain public order. The intelligent vehicle will first be deployed at major sporting events, before gradually being integrated into police field operations across Morocco. The timing coincides with Morocco's preparation to host several major events, including the 93rd Interpol General Assembly, the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, and the 2030 World Cup. The 6th edition of the DGSN Open Days is set to wrap up today at the Mohammed VI Exhibition Park in El Jadida, held under the theme 'Proud to serve an ancient Nation and a Glorious Throne.'
