Opa-locka woman's "HELP ME PLEASE" note leads to ex-boyfriend's arrest, police say

A 39-year-old man was arrested Thursday after allegedly kidnapping his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint and forcing her into her vehicle, according to the Opa-locka Police Department. The victim, who ended her year-long relationship with Talmadge Newry a week prior, was held against her will until employees at a local business discovered her plea for help, police said. According to the police report, the incident began at around 10 a.m. on June 12, 2025, when Newry allegedly pulled a gun and ordered the victim into her vehicle. The two drove around for hours, eventually stopping at a restaurant on Pembroke Road, where the vehicle's battery died, police said. Newry then drove to Battery Max, located in the 13800 block of NW 27th Ave., Opa-Locka, where he allegedly pulled the victim's shorts down to her knees to prevent her from fleeing, according to the victim's statement to police. Note leads to arrest While at Battery Max, the victim wrote a note saying, "HELP ME PLEASE," and dropped it outside the passenger door, as the vehicle's dead battery prevented her from lowering the window, police said. Employees found the note and alerted the manager, who immediately called police, according to the report. As Newry drove south on NW 27th Avenue, officers conducted a traffic stop at NW 27th Avenue and Opa-locka Boulevard, taking him into custody, police said. A black Smith & Wesson handgun was found in Newry's right front pants pocket and both the gun and the note were impounded as evidence, according to arrest report. Facing charges Newry faces charges of kidnapping, use or display of a firearm during a felony and armed robbery/carjacking, police said. He was transported to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

5-star Michigan football target sets commitment date

The post 5-star Michigan football target sets commitment date appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Michigan football team is hoping to land a commitment from one its top offensive targets, and it won't be long before we hear a decision. Five-star wide receiver Calvin Russell is down to eight schools, and he will announce his commitment on July 5th. Advertisement 'BREAKING: Elite 2026 WR Calvin Russell will announce his Commitment July 5th between these 8 Schools, he tells me for @On3Recruits,' Hayes Fawcett said in a post. 'The 6'5 195 WR from Opa Locka, FL is ranked as the No. 4 WR in the '26 Class (per On3 Industry).' Calvin Russell will choose between Michigan, Miami, Oregon, Florida State, Florida, LSU, North Carolina and Syracuse. Russell is a five-star recruit, according to 247Sports. He is the #21 player in the 2026 class, the #3 WR and the #2 player in the state of Florida. Russell currently attends Northwestern High School in Miami, FL. The Hurricanes will be a tough team for Michigan to beat here. 'Hulking wide receiver with above-the-rim athleticism that makes him a uniquely dangerous target, especially down in the red zone,' Russell's scouting report reads. 'Owns more of a slender build, but has measured over 6-foot-5 multiple times and is blessed with a near 6-foot-10 wingspan. Isn't exactly the most polished route runner at this stage, but creates separation with unexpected suddenness for such a longer strider. Superb body control tends to create even more of a disadvantage for defensive backs as he wins 50-50 battles with timing and positioning.' Advertisement If Michigan does land a commitment from Russell, there is a chance that he plays basketball for the Wolverines as well. 'Not going to outrun every tackle, but is quick to hit the gas and can make some dynamic cuts in traffic,' the scouting report continues. 'Spent much of freshman and sophomore seasons repping as a run first-quarterback out of necessity before settling in as a must-look option in Year 3 for a storied Miami Northwestern program that captured a 3A championship. Will need to add some body armour to a rather wiry frame in hopes of improving play strength and buy into the process at the school of his choice, but should be viewed as a potential impact pass catcher for a College Football Playoff contender that can be positioned all around the field in hopes of creating mismatches. One of those good-at-everything athletes that could legitimately play two spots in college as he's also being recruited by basketball high majors.' Calvin Russell is one of the best WRs in the 2026 class, and the Michigan football team needs WRs. This would be a massive get.

Cuban rapper Chocolate MC arrested after robbing fan who asked for a photo: MDSO

An avid Reggaeton listener got a rare opportunity when he noticed well-known Cuban rapper Chocolate MC just feet away from him at a Miami grocery store Tuesday. Unbeknownst to him, he would get more than he bargained for when a quick picture quickly turned to the music artist pointing a gun at him, deputies say. Around 8 a.m., the fan, who was not identified, was pulling into a Chavez Supermarket, 101 Opa-locka Blvd., when he noticed Yosvanis Sierra-Hernandez, better known as Chocolate MC, an arrest report detailed. He waved hello to the artist and called him over to take a picture of him. Sierra-Hernandez obliged and walked to his car, but when he got there, he pulled out a gun, pointed it at the man's chest and demanded the vehicle. That's not all he wanted, as he would soon demand the man give him cash too, the report read. When the fan showed Sierra-Hernandez his cashless wallet, he then demanded the man send him money through Zelle — the fan also did not have Zelle. Not getting any money, Sierra-Hernandez forced the man to drive to several places for the next two hours before eventually releasing him unharmed. Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office detectives combed through surveillance video, which showed the attempted robbery at gunpoint. After putting up wanted fliers throughout the county, authorities arrested Sierra-Hernandez late Tuesday. As of Thursday night, he still remained in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Rapper Chocolate MC KIDNAPS fan at gunpoint after he innocently asked for a photo

Florida-based rapper Chocolate MC faces several charges over allegedly holding a fan at gunpoint after being asked for a photo. Chocolate MC, whose real name is Yosvanis Sierra-Hernandez, was taken into custody Wednesday after the alleged victim reported a robbery and a kidnapping to police in Opa-locka, an area north of downtown Miami. The fan entered the parking lot of Chavez Supermarket and when he noticed Sierra-Hernandez, he asked the rapper if he'd take a selfie with him, according to an arrest report obtained by NBC Miami. Sierra-Hernandez, 34, then approached the fan, jammed a firearm into his chest and ordered him to give up his car, the report said. The Latin music artist then allegedly told the victim to get into the driver's side of the car while he got into the passenger's side. Once in the car, Sierra-Hernandez told the fan to give him cash, which he said he didn't have on him, according to the report. A subsequent attempt to rob the victim by getting his Zelle details also failed because the victim didn't have the well-known payment app, police said. Sierra-Hernandez is said to have forced the victim to drive him around to several locations for about two hours. Police said he let the man go in an area near 270 SW 11th Avenue. The arrest report indicated that deputies eventually found Sierra-Hernandez, who had a gray and black gun on him. Opa-locka police officers said surveillance video from the supermarket captured Sierra-Hernandez drawing his weapon and forcing the victim into the car. The arrest report indicated that deputies eventually found Sierra-Hernandez, who had a gray and black gun on him. He has been charged with kidnapping with a firearm and armed robbery in relation to the fan he allegedly carjacked. This isn't the first time the rapper, who has 43,000 followers on Instagram, has been in trouble with the law. Just last week, he was arrested for allegedly offering thousands of dollars for someone to kill an inmate charged with the 2024 murder of singer El Taiger in Miami. Sierra-Hernandez declined to show up for a bond hearing at 9am on Wednesday. The hearing was related to the alleged murder-for-hire plot and previous burglary charges. Since he didn't make an appearance the judge denied him bond on those charges. He is now scheduled to appear before a judge on Thursday. Sierra-Hernandez just recently gave an interview with Telemundo 51, a Spanish TV station in Miami, where he said he wanted to fix his life so the police would leave him alone. In 2024 alone, he was arrested for sexual battery, armed kidnapping, battery and grand theft charges, records show.
