OnePlus tablets are getting one of Android's best, and one of its worst, productivity features
Ryan Haines / Android Authority TL;DR The latest OxygenOS 15 update brings Google's Circle to Search and a new floating taskbar to the OnePlus Open and OnePlus Pad 2. Circle to Search allows users to quickly search anything on their screen by tapping, highlighting, or drawing over it. The floating taskbar, while aiming to balance productivity and screen real estate, lacks a quick toggle to switch styles and on tablets, it requires disabling gesture navigation for the fixed version. OnePlus makes some of the best Android tablets with some really useful productivity features. The company's Open Canvas, for example, sets the standard for mobile multitasking and is available across its tablets and foldables. While this feature first debuted on the OnePlus Open foldable, it later came to tablets through an over-the-air update. Now, a recent update brings two more major productivity features to its large-screen devices. Google's amazing Circle to Search feature is finally here for the OnePlus Open and Pad 2 With the latest OxygenOS 15 update for the OnePlus Open and OnePlus Pad 2, the company has brought Google's Circle to Search to its previous-generation foldable and tablet. Circle to Search allows you to quickly search anything on your screen by simply tapping, highlighting, or drawing over it. The feature debuted on last year's Galaxy S24 series and has since expanded to dozens of devices, including some OnePlus phones. While Circle to Search is available out of the box on the new OnePlus Pad 3, it's great to see OnePlus bring it to its older tablets as well. Technically, the rollout to the OnePlus Open and Pad 2 began last month with the OxygenOS 15.0.0.821 update, just ahead of the Pad 3's launch. This release time frame suggests that OnePlus develops its 'large screen' version of OxygenOS independently of a specific device, which would explain why new features like Circle to Search and the new floating taskbar arrive on its tablets and foldables around the same time. OnePlus borrows Google's floating taskbar feature, but it forgot to add one thing The new floating taskbar that OnePlus introduced in OxygenOS 15.0.0.821 is reminiscent of the one seen in stock Android. A short swipe up from the bottom reveals the new taskbar, which floats just above the bottom edge instead of spanning the screen's full width. From here, you can switch apps by tapping their icons or launch Open Canvas by dragging and dropping them. The taskbar automatically hides if you tap an item or anywhere outside of it. While the floating taskbar smartly balances productivity with screen real estate, it can be slower for multitasking compared to the old fixed version. Recognizing this trade-off, Google built a quick toggle into Android 15 to switch between the floating and fixed styles. Unfortunately, OnePlus has chosen not to implement this convenient toggle. Instead, like Samsung's One UI 7, OxygenOS forces you to dig through the Settings app to make the change. Even worse, on OnePlus tablets, the option to switch back to the fixed taskbar is missing entirely, unless you're willing to give up gesture navigation. On the OnePlus Open, you can at least switch between the floating and fixed taskbars by navigating to Settings > Foldable features > Task bar > Task bar style. On OnePlus tablets, however, this option is missing. Your only choice is to disable the taskbar completely from Settings > Accessibility & convenience > Task bar. You can also force the taskbar to stay pinned by switching to classic three-button navigation, but that means giving up modern gesture controls. Fixed taskbar on OnePlus tablets using three-button navigation Taskbar options on OnePlus tablets Even on foldables where the setting exists, the experience isn't perfect. Switching to the fixed taskbar doesn't restore old functionality, like long-pressing an empty spot to minimize it. Furthermore, the new swipe-up gesture seems to conflict with the one for going home, causing some users to accidentally exit an app when they meant to open the taskbar. This could be a sensitivity issue, but without a quick way to switch modes, it all adds up to a frustrating experience. While I like the idea of the floating taskbar, especially on the OnePlus Open where vertical space is precious, I'm not a fan of its current implementation. On Samsung devices, you can install the Good Lock 'Home Up' module to add a quick switch toggle, but no such workaround exists on OnePlus devices. Thankfully, OnePlus has a history of listening to customer feedback, so hopefully, the company will see these complaints and address them in a future software update. Got a tip? Talk to us! iPhone Fold tipped to cost over $2,000 — and that would be a huge mistake
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. A recent leak has stated that Apple could make it so that the foldable iPhone could cost more than the best MacBooks. The rumor comes from leaker Instant Digital, who posted about the possible price change on the Chinese social media site Weibo. According to the post, the iPhone could cost between $2,100 and $2,300 at release. For reference, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 costs $1,899 at its lowest, while the 1TB version costs $2,259. However, Apple is in for a challenge if it wants to break into the foldable market with that price point. It's worth noting that the foldable market isn't what it used to be; there are many options out there. For instance, most of the best foldable phones that we've seen, like the OnePlus Open ($1,699) and Oppo Find N5 (around $1,800), can be bought for much more affordable prices. If Apple wants to sell the foldable at that cost, then it would need to pull out some impressive hardware. Unfortunately, at least to my eyes, none of the rumored specs appear to show that. The first thing anyone looks for when it comes to a foldable phone is the size of the display. Now, we've heard several different rumors about the foldable iPhone's screen, but none of them scream "spend 2K on me!" The first rumor we've heard is that the foldable iPhone features a 7.8-inch primary display when unfolded and a 5.5-inch cover display when folded. That means the inner display will roughly be the same as the cheaper OnePlus Open (which again costs $1,699.) Now, there are rumors that Apple has solved the crease issue seen in other foldables, but even that isn't enough. Other rumors have indicated that the phone could have a 7.74-inch inner display offering a 2,713 x 1,920p resolution. Meanwhile, the 5.49-inch outer display will have a resolution of 2,088 x 1,422p. That would put it closer to the Oppo Find N5. Alternatively, we've seen a rumor that the screen could be as large as 12 inches when unfolded. Now, that's certainly impressive and would be visually distinct, while at the same time being completely impractical. Here's the thing: you still need a phone to be a phone, and while the phone is tipped to be the thinnest yet, there's no easy way to fit that in your pocket. Plus, the idea of opening a 12-inch screen on public transport is just... horrifying. Next, we have the cameras, which are hinted to include a main lens, an ultrawide lens and possibly an under-display selfie camera. It isn't the most impressive lineup, although to be fair, we don't know much about their specs. At the end of the day, however, I wouldn't buy a foldable phone for the camera, usually because they often feel more lacking than the more standard devices. When it comes to the inner hardware, we've heard that the foldable iPhone could feature a 5,000mAh battery. That's a pretty decent battery, but the big news is that Apple has reportedly upgraded the screen's integrated driver circuit from a 28nm process to a smaller 16nm one. This would, in theory, allow the same performance while minimizing the power draw. While impressive, it isn't "over $2,000" impressive. It would help if we knew more about the chips in the phone, but so far, we can only guess that it will at least feature the same chips as the iPhone 17 series. One possible option for Apple is to push Apple Intelligence, including new features exclusive to the foldable iPhone. However, I say could because Apple hasn't exactly set the world on fire with Apple Intelligence. This is especially true when you realize we still don't have all the promised features for Apple's AI. For instance, look at the delayed release of Siri 2.0. Imagine paying 2K for a phone where the features are always "coming soon." The biggest problem Apple is going to face is that when it eventually does release, which is rumored to be happening around Q2 of 2026 at the earliest, the competition will be even steeper. At that point, we expect that we'll have seen the release of the OnePlus Open 2, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and possibly the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. All of these developers have more experience with foldables, and Apple will struggle to find a place. So, how likely is this price? Well, that's hard to say at this point, but the leaker has been right before. As such, it's worth taking note of, but it is still very early days. With that said, I wouldn't buy a $2,000 foldable iPhone based on what we know now, but Apple could surprise me. So let me know, would you pay 2K for a foldable iPhone, or is that just too much for you to even consider being worth it? I put the Google Pixel 9a vs Apple iPhone 16e through a 7-round face-off — here's the winner Apple Maps is my go-to choice for directions — here's how Apple Intelligence could make it even better This $19 travel gadget was such a lifesaver during my vacation, my friends tried to steal it

Last Updated: OnePlus 13T made its debut in China, and the Indian market is getting the 13s variant but what about the other countries? OnePlus 13T made its debut in China last week, making it the latest compact flagship to enter the market this year. The 13T model has generated a lot of interest among readers, however, there is some disappointing news from OnePlus about this product. The company has confirmed that OnePlus 13T will not be available in markets like North America, and most likely in Europe as well. According to a report by The Verge, OnePlus was quoted sharing the details. The brand has said that OnePlus 13T will not be available for sale in Europe, the United States, or Canada. Celina Shi, OnePlus Europe's chief marketing officer, told The Verge in an email, 'Currently, we have no plans to launch the OnePlus 13s in Europe. That being said, we have noted the interest in the product from our European users, and we will keep it in mind as we make product launch decisions going forward." OnePlus clearly sees more value in launching the OnePlus 13T in its important markets like India, where the product is getting rebranded as OnePlus 13s. To be fair, this rebranding sparked hopes for a potential US release, but OnePlus has been quick to douse the fire of excitement among its fans in America. OnePlus has taken a measured approach with launches this year. The brand confirmed that the OnePlus Open foldable will not be getting a sequel in 2025, and it does not plan to launch the OnePlus Watch 3 model in India. OnePlus 13T Price And Features OnePlus 13T is priced at CNY 3,399 (Rs 39,000 approx) for the base variant with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage in China. The 13T features a dual rear camera system, comprising a 50MP primary sensor and a 50MP telephoto lens. In China, the phone runs on Android 15-based ColorOS and includes a new iPhone 16-like Quick Key action button for added convenience. Even for a compact phone, you get a 6,260 mAh battery that supports 80W charging. First Published: May 02, 2025, 08:10 IST

A New OnePlus Phone Is Set To Launch On April 24
OnePlus 13T colors The OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R were released in January, and the company hasn't announced any new flagship phones since. It has only confirmed that there won't be a OnePlus Open sequel this year. However, a new phone is in the pipeline, set to join the OnePlus 13 series on April 24. After posting several teasers, OnePlus has officially announced the release date for its next product, the OnePlus 13T. OnePlus China head Louis Jie took to Weibo to confirm the launch date of their upcoming smartphone. The OnePlus 13T is set to debut in China on April 24 at 2:30 PM local time. It will come in Morning Mist Gray, Cloud Ink Black, and Pink color options. The OnePlus 13T features a refreshing new camera module design that resembles the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and is said to house two 50MP cameras. According to Jie, OnePlus has 'defined the direction of minimalism, refinement, and flatness' with the phone's 6.32-inch screen, which will likely be an OLED panel with a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. OnePlus 13T launch date announcement The OnePlus 13T sports a one-piece metal design with 'rounded R corners' and a narrow frame. From the teasers, it appears to have a matte finish on the back, similar to recent affordable phones from Apple and Google. Both the iPhone 16e and Pixel 9a feature a soft-touch matte finish. But unlike those phones, the OnePlus 13T isn't expected to compromise on optics. It is rumored to feature a 50MP primary camera and a 50MP telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom capabilities. The new OnePlus phone will likely be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, placing it between the OnePlus 13R and OnePlus 13 in the lineup. It's also expected to pack a massive 6,200mAh battery with support for 80W fast charging. There's no word yet on wireless charging. Moreover, OnePlus is borrowing a feature straight from the Oppo Find X8 Ultra for its new phone. The OnePlus 13T will ditch company's signature Alert Slider in favor of a customizable button, similar to the Action Button on the iPhone 16 lineup. You'ill be able to customize it based on your preferences. While the April 24 launch is confirmed for China, the OnePlus 13T is expected to make its way to global markets eventually. However, there is no official word yet on global availability or launch.
