No Hasselblad in OnePlus 15? New leak reveals big OnePlus camera update

Here we go again! The rumoured OnePlus 15, said to be the successor to the OnePlus 13, will reportedly launch without the Hasselblad branding. And this isn't the first time we've heard something like this about OnePlus and Hasselblad parting ways. Before the launch of the OnePlus 13, it was widely speculated that the company would be ending its partnership with Hasselblad, and the OnePlus 13 would launch without the Hasselblad branding. However, that didn't happen, and the OnePlus 13 featured a triple-rear camera system, once again tuned in collaboration with Hasselblad. That said, this time around, it's looking more likely that the partnership may actually come to an to Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the OnePlus 15 will not feature Hasselblad-tuned cameras and will instead adopt a new in-house imaging engine, much like what OPPO has done with its recent launches, the Find X8 and Find X8 Ultra in China. Both those phones use OPPO's proprietary Lumo imaging from this, the leak also highlights some of the key specifications of the OnePlus 15. It appears the company might scale things back on the display front, with the OnePlus 15 said to sport a 6.78-inch flat AMOLED panel with a 1.5K resolution — a step-down from the 6.82-inch quad-curved AMOLED screen with 2K resolution found on the OnePlus 13. The upside here is the flat display. Much like the OnePlus 13R, this move could be seen as a practical choice. While some might consider it a downgrade — and as good as quad-curved screens are (certainly better than older sloping-curved panels) — a flat display often proves more usable in day-to-day Also, in case you're wondering why OnePlus is skipping the number 14 and naming the next flagship the OnePlus 15 instead, it's because the number 4 is considered unlucky in Chinese culture. That's why the company is expected to jump straight from 13 to 15 for its next major OnePlus 15 is also rumoured to retain the triple 50-megapixel rear camera setup from the OnePlus 13, including a primary sensor, an ultra-wide, and a periscope telephoto lens. On the performance side, the phone is expected to be powered by Qualcomm's next-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip, which is likely to be unveiled at the Snapdragon Summit in leaks have also claimed that the OnePlus 15 will pack the largest battery ever in a flagship phone — reportedly over 7,000mAh — with support for 100W wired and wireless charging. The phone is also said to come with an IP69 rating for dust and water resistance, just like the OnePlus OnePlus 15 is expected to launch in China by the end of this year, followed by a global release — including India — in early 2026. To recall, the OnePlus 13 was launched in India earlier this year, on January 7, at a starting price of Rs 69,999.

This OnePlus 15 camera leak makes me very nervous about the flagship

OnePlus's next flagship smartphone is expected to be the OnePlus 15 – due to arrive later this year. The rumour mill has started churning out some leaks about the handset, including one major camera titbit. And I'm officially nervous about the flagship. Since 2021, Hasselblad has been a quiet co-pilot on OnePlus's camera journey. The results haven't always been revolutionary, but you can't deny the colour science got a notable boost, and portrait shots started getting more effective. So a leak from the reputable Digital Chat Station on Weibo says that the OnePlus 15 might ditch the Hasselblad collab in favour of an in-house 'image brand' makes me twitchy. There's a reason phone makers like to slap big-name logos on their camera modules. It's not just for show – those partnerships usually nudge the camera tuning in the right direction. Without it, there's a risk we're back to OnePlus' days of good hardware, muddled by inconsistent camera results. But, the leak suggests the OnePlus 15 will still have a triple-lens setup, including a periscope lens and a big primary sensor. That sounds great on paper, but hardware alone doesn't make a brilliant camera system. Tuning, software, and experience matter – and that's where Hasselblad's influence has historically helped OnePlus punch above its weight. Of course, there's a chance that OnePlus has picked up enough know-how from years of collaboration to go solo without things crashing and burning. But that's a pretty big gamble. It's hard not to see this as a cost-cutting move dressed up as innovation. The rest of the spec sheet is shaping up just fine. A 6.78-inch 1.5K flat display might seem like a step down from the OnePlus 13's curvy QHD+ panel. But flat screens are far more practical in daily use. Add in the next-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chip and thinner bezels, and the OnePlus 15 is still sounding like a flagship contender. I'm just hoping the camera doesn't let the side down.

OnePlus 15 to bring some big changes

The OnePlus 13's successor could end up being called OnePlus 15, so as to avoid "4" due to tetraphobia in some Asian markets. That aside, it's now rumored to bring some pretty significant changes. First off, its screen will allegedly be lower-res than its predecessor's, only "1.5K". This was done in order to save some money which is being invested elsewhere in the phone. The display size will be 6.78", it will be flat, and will have ultra-narrow bezels on all four sides. OnePlus 13 The phone's camera island will not be circular anymore, and the device will have three shooters on the back, including a 50 MP main camera and a periscope telephoto camera. It will also introduce its own image brand for the first time. This may as well be Oppo's Lumo, by the way. Thus, it's unclear what will happen with the Hasselblad co-branding, a staple of OnePlus flagships for the past few years. Either it continues and we'll have three brands on the back of the phone - OnePlus, Hasselblad, and the new OnePlus imaging brand - or it doesn't. That remains to be seen. In case the screen resolution downgrade made you think there will be a OnePlus 15 Pro as well, think again - the source of this leak claims that won't be the case, the 15 is all we're getting. New OnePlus 15 details from leaker indicate OnePlus has divorced its imaging partner

The OnePlus 13 is held up to the camera showing off the 6.82-inch 2K resolution screen. | Image credit-PhoneArena The OnePlus 15 is expected to be released in October although a global release won't take place until 2026. Last month, prolific leaker Digital Chat Station posted on Weibo that the device could have the largest battery of any flagship phone available with a capacity of over 7000 mAh. Not only is the phone's battery expected to be massive, but it will replenish quickly with a speed of 100W for both wired and wireless charging. Digital Chat Station's Weibo post in May also mentioned that the OnePlus 15 will have IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance. The Ingress Protection rating of 68 means that a phone is impervious to dust and can be submerged in fresh, pure, and still water to a depth of 1.5 meters (4.92 feet) for as long as 30 minutes and emerge unscathed. The IP69 rating means that the device is protected from high-pressure, high-temperature water jets. A new Weibo post from Digital Chat Station posted today reveals that OnePlus is dialing back the specs of the phone's display and it will feature a 6.78-inch flat screen with a 1.5K resolution screen which will succeed the 6.82-inch 2K display (with quad-curved corners) on the OnePlus 13 . In case you were wondering why there is no OnePlus 14, the number "4" in Chinese sounds like the Chinese word for Death. For superstitious reasons, the OnePlus 13 sequel is the OnePus 15 to avooid the numeral "4." This issue is known as tetraphobia. The OnePlus 15 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 application processor (AP). Interestingly, the prototype model (an engineering test device) doesn't feature a round camera island although the final build may differ. It looks like OnePlus might end its partnership with Hasselblad and, similar to Huawei's proprietary Xmage mobile imaging brand, develop its own in-house imaging platform. The leaker says to expect the OnePlus 15 to feature triple-rear cameras backed by three 50MP sensors including a primary camera with a large sensor and a periscope zoom lens. OnePlus has come a long way since the release of the OnePlus One in April 2014. As a new brand back then, OnePlus required that those purchasing the phone have an invitation to purchase a unit. This was done so that the company could keep track of how many phones it needed to build allowing it to keep a tighter control over costs. Back in 2014, the OnePlus One was available with 16GB of storage for $299 and $349 for the model with 64GB of storage.

OnePlus 15 leak teases big changes, and not everyone's going to be happy

Aamir Siddiqui / Android Authority TL;DR A new leak suggests that the upcoming OnePlus flagship, likely the OnePlus 15, will feature a flat 6.78-inch 1.5K display and the next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chipset. It is expected to have a 50MP triple camera setup, with a large primary camera and a periscope zoom camera. OnePlus could also be moving away from its Hasselblad partnership in favor of launching its own 'image' brand. The OnePlus 13 ticks all the right boxes for a top-tier Android phone, and it's natural to expect the company to keep up the theme with its successor. The next flagship from the company will likely be called the OnePlus 15 and not the OnePlus 14 (as Chinese culture regards the number '4' as unlucky). Irrespective of the name, we expect a banger, and new leaks suggest it very well will be. Leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo has shared some specifications for the next OnePlus flagship, most likely the OnePlus 15: As per Digital Chat Station, the OnePlus 15 will come with the SM8550, i.e., the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite (possibly called the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, unless Qualcomm calls it something else). This aligns with the historical trends of OnePlus flagships, so it's not surprising. The leaker's claim that the OnePlus 15 could get a 6.78-inch 1.5K resolution flat LIPO display is surprising. The OnePlus 13 comes with a larger 6.82-inch QHD+/2K display that is almost flat but with quad-curved edges (instead of the more pronounced curved edges on the older OnePlus 12), while the OnePlus 13R has a flat 6.78-inch 1.5K display. If this leak from the reliable leaker is correct, the OnePlus 15's display could be similar to the OnePlus 13R's flat display. That's not a bad change despite the downgrade on paper, as the 13R also has a very good and practical display. The bezels on the upcoming device are also said to be very thin. OnePlus 13's curved display OnePlus 13R's flat display Further, the engineering test device does not have a circular camera island. The shape is unknown, but since this is a test device, the shape of the camera island on the finalized retail units could differ. The leak also reiterates that the phone will come with a 50MP triple camera setup with a large sensor primary camera and a periscope zoom camera. The final part of the leak suggests that the OnePlus 15 could have the company's own 'image brand.' This brings into question the company's collaboration with Hasselblad, but it's too early to judge whether this will pan out or not. OnePlus has been collaborating with Hasselblad since the OnePlus 9 series in 2021. Even the OnePlus 13 features Hasselblad-branded cameras, and we've seen the results of the collaboration over the years with improved color calibration and better portrait mode on these co-branded OnePlus flagships. So if the company does part ways with Hasselblad, it has successfully reaped the benefits of the collaboration on existing devices. To sum up this OnePlus 15 leak, the processor will get an upgrade, the design language could change, the display could be downgraded from overkill to practical, and the camera could get an upgrade, but without a branding partner. All in all, there seem to be plenty of changes planned for the OnePlus 15 that could set it far apart from the OnePlus 13. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ .
