Odisha govt to plant 7.5 cr trees in the state in one year: CM Majhi
BHUBANESWAR: Emphasising the importance of cleaner and greener environment for a healthy society, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday announced the government's plan of planting 7.5 crore trees across the state within the next one year. Addressing a state-level function held at the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) to celebrate World Environment Day, the chief minister said the state has achieved a net increase of approximately 560 sq km in forest and tree cover, which is the fourth-highest among all states. The common people and institutions have planted nearly two crore saplings, setting a record, he said. Expressing concern over the increasing reliance on plastic, especially single-use plastic in daily life, which has emerged as one of the three major problems alongside climate change, environmental degradation and pollution, Majhi called upon the public to take a pledge to end plastic pollution and maintain a healthy and clean environment for citizens. He stressed the importance of creating a greener environment and preserving nature to mitigate the severity of pollution which can ensure a healthy life for future generations. 'Our government has taken the initiative to ban single-use plastic, promote sustainable alternatives and strengthen waste management systems. We have also launched the State Clean Air Programme to reduce air pollution in densely populated areas and improve air quality in which the State Pollution Control Board is playing an active role,' he added. Emphasising the need for societal change, he noted the success of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, which has resulted in the planting of over six crore trees. The CM felicitated 185 Prakruti Mitra and 211 Prakruti Bandhu volunteers from various districts who have made significant contributions to environmental protection and conservation. He also congratulated all participants and winners of the state-level eco-model exhibition on 'Ending Plastic Pollution' and extended his best wishes to the schools and teachers who won the best Eco-Club award. The chief minister along with minister for Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia and chief secretary Manoj Ahuja planted saplings under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' programme at the College of Agriculture here.

When I most unexpectedly reunited with the age-defying Ginnifer Goodwin on the Disney Upfront's blue carpet earlier this month, I had recently gotten a Facebook 'memory' about the Once Upon a Time musical episode, which aired eight years prior (and for which I was on-set, in March 2017). So after talking a bit about her voice acting encore as police rabbit Judy Hopps in Disney's Zootopia 2 (due in theaters Nov. 26!), I had to invite Ginny to reflect on OUAT's 'The Song in Your Heart,' which aired May 7, 2017, saw her duet with husband Josh Dallas' Charming, and teed up that season's two-part finale. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurates temporary KV building, lays foundation for permanent campus in Dhenkanal
Dhenkanal (Odisha) [India], May 23 (ANI): In a step toward strengthening foundational education, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated a temporary building for Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) on Friday and laid the foundation stone for its permanent campus in Dhenkanal, Odisha. The occasion also reaffirmed the government's commitment to implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 across all states. Speaking to ANI, Pradhan emphasised the NEP's focus on regional languages in early education. 'Under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, we have decided that in all the states of India--in the foundational and preparatory stages, in Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN), and in the NIPUN Bharat Mission--education must be provided in the children's mother tongue in the initial years,' he said. He noted that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has already issued a circular directing schools across the country to commence school education in regional languages. 'This move aligns with NEP's vision to make learning more inclusive and effective for young students,' Pradhan stated. 'To take our country's new generation to the global level, we must fully implement the National Education Policy,' Pradhan added, underlining the importance of culturally rooted yet globally competitive education. Earlier in the day, Dharmendra Pradhan also inaugurated the newly constructed auditorium at the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) in the Chiplima region of Sambalpur district. According to his post on the social media platform X, Rs 10.5 crores were invested to upgrade the auditorium. 'OUAT, Chiplima will be a bridge between 'Developed Odisha' and 'Developed India'.I am happy to inaugurate the new state-of-the-art auditorium of OUAT Chiplima Agricultural College in Sambalpur. This auditorium will be of great help in the intellectual development of the students and in enhancing the skills of the farmers of Sambalpur and the surrounding districts. I thank the Chief Minister @MohanMOdisha for taking steps to upgrade this auditorium with an investment of about Rs 10.5 crore,' Pradhan post on X read.
