Temba Bavuma ruled out due to injury, Keshav Maharaj named South Africa captain for upcoming two-match Test series against Zimbabwe
New Delhi [India] June 20 (ANI): South Africa's ICC World Championship 2025 title-winning captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against Zimbabwe due to a left hamstring strain, according to the ICC website. Proteas veteran spinner Keshav Maharaj will take over as the captain for the red-ball series starting from June 28. Bavuma sustained the injury during day three of the World Test Championship Final at Lord's while batting in the second innings. He continued to bat with pain and put on a fight with a well-made half century, stitching up a match-winning partnership with Aiden Markram. Bavuma is set to undergo further scans to assess the extent of the injury, while experienced Maharaj will lead the side, which consists of five uncapped players. This is the third hamstring injury Bavuma has suffered in less than two years. He was injured during the 2023 ODI World Cup and played the semi-final, and then again during the Boxing Day Test against India that year. He has also had a series of elbow injuries and plays with a heavily strapped left elbow. The Proteas had faced Zimbabwe in a warm-up fixture before taking on Australia for the Ultimate Test at the Home of Cricket, where they were crowned the Test champions. Proteas will take on Zimbabwe in the first Test on Saturday, 28 June, followed by the second Test from Sunday, 06 July, with both matches taking place at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo. South Africa's next assignments after Zimbabwe, which Bavuma could be part of, are ODIs against Australia in August and England in September. Temba Bavuma Suffers Big Blow Days After Leading South Africa To WTC Triumph
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against Zimbabwe due to a left hamstring strain suffered during the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at Lord's last week. Bavuma, who will undergo further scans to determine the extent of the injury, battled the pain during the second innings and played a pivotal knock of 66 along with Aiden Markram 's 136 which guided them to the WTC title. In Bavuma's absence, the world champions will be led by spinner Keshav Maharaj in the series which gets underway from June 28 in Bulawayo. The series will also mark the start of the new WTC cycle for both sides. "Proteas Men's Test captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against Zimbabwe due to a left hamstring strain," Cricket South Africa wrote on X. "Bavuma sustained the injury while batting during South Africa's second innings on day three of the ICC World Test Championship Final against Australia at Lord's Cricket Ground. He is set to undergo further scans to assess the extent of the injury. Keshav Maharaj will captain the side in his absence," it added. Proteas squad includes five uncapped players as South Africa have opted to rest several of their regular all-format players, including Aiden Markram and Kagiso Rabada. Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi will only be available for the second Test. This marks Bavuma's third hamstring injury in under two years. He previously suffered one during the 2023 ODI World Cup, where he played in the semi-final while injured, and again during the Boxing Day Test against India. Additionally, he has dealt with recurring elbow issues and regularly plays with his left elbow heavily strapped. Following the Zimbabwe series - where Bavuma may return - South Africa's upcoming schedule includes ODIs against Australia in August and England in September. Their next WTC campaign kicks off against Pakistan in October, followed by a tour of India in November. Notably, South Africa won't host a home Test until October 2026, when they are set to face Australia. Bavuma has expressed his desire to continue playing through to the 2027 home ODI World Cup, provided his fitness allows. 2026 Women's T20 WC: India grouped with Pakistan, scheduled to play on June 14
CHENNAI: Days after the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup schedule was announced, India and Pakistan are slotted in the same group for the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup (England) as the fixtures were released on Wednesday. In the ODI World Cup as well, India are scheduled to play Pakistan on October 5 at a neutral venue (Colombo). These announcements comes about a month and a half after the cross border tensions between India and Pakistan. The two countries have not played bilateral cricket since 2013 and only play each other in multi-team tournament. Whether it is Asia Cup or ICC events, they have been grouped together since 2014 as India-Pakistan is perhaps the most-anticipated and watched contest. However, following the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, tensions rose between the two countries which led to escalations along the border. This led to speculations over whether India would play Pakistan in multi-tournament events. There have been calls of boycotts as well with some former players supporting it. Though the ODI World Cup will be played in the round robin format which means every team plays each other at least once, the format of the Women's T20 World Cup is different. The teams are divided into two groups. As per the existing agreement, Pakistan will not travel to India and will play all their games in Sri Lanka during the ODI World Cup. The two countries came to the understanding ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy that neither team will travel to the other for any event and will play at a neutral venue. In accordance with that India played all their games in Dubai during the Champions Trophy hosted by Pakistan. Now, it remains to be seen whether the agreement continues. As things stand, apart from the two women's tournaments, there is a men's Asia Cup as well as men's T20 World Cup to be played in the next six months. Even though the ICC released the schedules for the games between India and Pakistan in both women's events, it needs be seen how the games go ahead. The BCCI is yet to say anything concrete as of now.

Yograj Singh rekindles controversy, takes veiled jibe at MS Dhoni's captaincy era: 'We burnt whole house by standing for one person'
Yograj Singh, the former India cricketer and father of all-round ex-cricketer icon Yuvraj Singh, is back again making headlines. This time, he once again targeted Mahendra Singh Dhoni, a.k.a. MS Dhoni, by making a controversial remark about the former Indian cricket captain. The 67-year-old Yograj Singh has been a staunch critic of Dhoni, seemingly after Yuvraj Singh was dropped from the Indian team under the former's captaincy era. Yuvraj was a consistent player for the player, especially in white-ball cricket, but after recovering from cancer, his appearances became less frequent during 'Thala's' captaincy. What did Yograj Singh say about MS Dhoni? During a recent interaction with InsideSport, Yograj opened up about the 'brotherly' culture in the Indian team during the Sourav Ganguly era, but things changed because of 'one man'. However, during the conversation, Yograj did not explicitly mention the name of the person, but all the signs indicated Dhoni. "(We had) Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Javagal Srinath, Anil Kumble, and others. Bhajji (Harbhajan Singh), Yuvi (Yuvraj), Viru (Virender Sehwag), (Mohammed) Kaif, and Zaheer (Khan) among youngsters. "Combination of elder and younger brothers," quoted Yograj in the report. "That's why they could lead the youngsters and become the greatest of all time. And what we did? We burned out the whole house by just standing for one person. I won't name him. Where is he? See what happened,' he added. He did not stop there and went on to say that when people give love to Sachin, Yuvi, Gambhir and Viru, they will never go down the drain and will always be stars. Yograj lashes out at BCCI Yograj's controversial remarks have not come for the first time; before this, he has criticised Dhoni. In the same conversation, he also alleged that after Ganguli's era, the selectors had suddenly dropped several of the nation's top match-winners following the 2011 ODI World Cup victory. Legend Yograj Singh was right again. Yograj reminisced about how many legendary players were not given a respectful farewell, with their departures managed poorly and without a sense of responsibility or dignity. 'You (BCCI selectors) just destroyed these boys for no reason,' Yograj quoted InsideSport. 'Boys like Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Mohammed Kaif, VVS Laxman, and Rahul Dravid. You just made them go after 2011."
