"Rolled out our mats for wholesome puppy yoga session": Australian High Commission celebrates Int'l Yoga Day in unique way

New Delhi [India], June 21 (ANI): Australian High Commissioner to India, Philip Green OAM, stated that the Australian High Commission celebrated International Day of Yoga by involving puppies in the yoga session. He stressed that this yoga session reminded them that 'wellness works best with a wag and a smile.' The video shared by Green showed people showering love on the puppies while performing yoga on the occasion of International Day of Yoga. While sharing the video of the yoga session on X, Philip Green stated, 'In the land that gifted the world #yoga, we decided to bring a little paw-sitivity to our practice! This #InternationalYogaDay, we rolled out our mats for a wholesome #puppy #yoga session with some furry friends. It reminded us: wellness works best with a wag & a smile.' Earlier in the day, Philip Green OAM performed yoga during the International Day of Yoga event led by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Delhi's Nehru Park. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and envoys of various nations performed yoga during the event. 'Kicked off the morning with a refreshing and energising stretch at @MEAIndia's #YogaDay event, led by none other than External Affairs Minister @DrSJaishankar. What a fantastic way to celebrate #InternationalYogaDay2025,' Philip Green OAM posted on X. Speaking to ANI, Philip Green stated, 'Yoga is one of those features that Australians think about as core to India's culturey, Yoga is one of India's gifts to the world, and this is an opportunity for us to remind ourselves of that, but also to recall how valuable yoga can be in one's everyday practise. It's growing in prominence in Australia, and I think this International Day will only serve to cause it to grow more.' EAM Jaishankar said that he and the diplomatic corps performed yoga in Delhi's Nehru Park on Saturday. Reiterating Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks, he said the yoga session was a true reflection of Yoga for everyone, beyond boundaries, age, backgrounds or ability. In a statement shared on X, he said, 'Pleased to join the Diplomatic Corps at the Nehru Park in Delhi this morning to celebrate #InternationalDayOfYoga. Like PM @narendramodi said today, the session was a true reflection of Yoga for everyone, beyond boundaries, backgrounds, age or ability.' EAM @DrSJaishankar led #IDY2025 celebration by MEA where Ambassadors, High Commissioners, members of the diplomatic corps and officers of the Ministry joined to perform yoga. Every year, the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) is celebrated on June 21. This year marks the 11th International Day of Yoga with the theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health', which echoes a vital truth that personal wellness and planetary health are inseparably linked. This mindfulness allows one to choose healthier and more sustainable lifestyles. In 2014, the United Nations declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131. The draft resolution establishing the International Day of Yoga was proposed by India and endorsed by a record 175 member states. PM Modi first introduced the proposal in his address during the opening of the 69th session of the General Assembly. (ANI)

Demolition work under way as Deborah Hutton plots northern Illawarra beach house

It was recently revealed that it was all systems go for Deborah Hutton and her northern Illawarra beach house project. The television personality and entrepreneur has pledged to regularly share the project's progress with her 72,000-plus Instagram followers. Hutton recently revealed that she had signed the building contract to start construction of the new house. Earlier this week she shared a video - "just a bit of a catch-up on what's going on" - documenting the site establishment, asbestos removal and house demolition. "Loving the BIG Tonka Toys," she posted in a caption accompanying the video. The total new build cost is believed to be $5 million. In a previous video post on Instagram, Hutton discussed the knockdown-rebuild project. "We had such a beautiful experience in that house, and it's shame we couldn't have renovated it," she said. "But it's on to new and exciting times, and I'm looking forward to the next process... We are up and away." Former Australian Women's Weekly editor Hutton recently received a medal of the order of Australia for her role as a skin cancer awareness ambassador. "I'm incredibly honoured (and mildly shocked) to be awarded an OAM in the King's birthday honours," she posted on Instagram. "This recognition feels far bigger than me - it's a reflection of the remarkable charitable organisations and inspiring people I've had the privilege of working with over many years." In 2021, Hutton bought the oceanfront Wombarra home for $5.6 million. The three-bedroom cottage was built in the 1960s. It sits on a 1048 square metre block with direct access to the water's edge and 180-degree views of the Pacific Ocean. Hutton said the project, "will be a two-year build of a fab new beach house". "We moved down here over 2 1/2 years ago and loving Sydney's south coast," she wrote previously. "Wouldn't want to be anywhere else." The architect's visualisation of the plans shows a big build on the sloping oceanfront site. The home's previous owner had lodged a DA with Wollongong City Council in early 2021, for the "demolition of dwelling house and construction of new dwelling house and swimming pool". This was later approved by the Wollongong Local Planning Panel. Last year, Hutton lodged an amended DA, which was approved. Wollongong City Council documents show the modified DA was for the "demolition of dwelling house and construction of new dwelling house and swimming pool", with the modification of the "deletion of pool and associated structures, reconfiguration of dwelling, increased setbacks and addition of outdoor room".

Geelong mayor during Pyramid collapse Brian Vincent Fowler mourned

Don't miss out on the headlines from Geelong. Followed categories will be added to My News. A former mayor at the helm during the Pyramid group collapse is being remembered as a true 'Geelong legend' and inspirational leader after losing his battle with Parkinson's disease. Brian Vincent Fowler, 83, held City Hall's top job from 1989-1991, helping guide Geelong through the catastrophic demise of the Pyramid Building Society. The collapse, in June 1990, kickstarted a nationwide financial crisis and brought about the downfall of Victorian Premier John Cain. Mr Fowler, an Order of Australia Medallist (OAM), was farewelled at a funeral service at the Novotel last month after 'a good seven year fight' with the disease. His son, David Fowler, described him as a 'big game fisherman' and 'squash guru' before paying homage to an 'incredibly inspirational life.' 'We're so incredibly proud of all of your amazing achievements, your energy and leadership through all sorts of challenges,' he said in a touching online tribute. 'Thank you for all of your love, support, wisdom, opportunities and experiences you've given us all along your journey.' Mr Fowler, a pharmacist and respected businessman, was a much-loved figure who always had the city's best interests at heart. He received an OAM medal during the Australia Day Awards in 1993 for his outstanding service to local government. Three years earlier he was Geelong's mayor during the Farrow Group collapse that left debts exceeding $2 billion. The bust proved devastating for thousands of mum and dad investors in Geelong who lost life savings, homes and businesses. In a character trait exuded for much of his life, he showed strong leadership and wisdom during the fallout, creating a mayoral committee of leading local identities to help those hurt. Now, his family is determined to raise money to improve the lives of people living with Parkinson's or Atypical Parkinson's in his name, dedicating a website to the Fowler 'patriarch'. He fought 'in true Brian-a-boy style', according to his son, and 'battled hard til the end' before passing peacefully on May 16. A Fight Parkinson's page in his honour has already raised more than $1500. Mr Fowler – the son of Helen and Harold and brother of Barry and Noel – is survived by his wife, Liz, children David, Paul and Jen and six grandchildren Liam, Ryan, Neve, Paddy, Alexander and Maggie, who affectionately called him 'Grumps'. To donate to Brian Fowler's Fight Parkinson's. Originally published as Geelong mayor during Pyramid collapse, Brian Vincent Fowler OAM, mourned after passing

Ellena Morris inducted into Cessnock City Hall of Fame

A STAPLE in the swimming community, Ellena Morris has been inducted as the 69th person into the City of Cessnock Hall of Fame. Mrs Morris was honoured at a civic ceremony at Performance Arts Culture Cessnock (PACC) on Friday, June 13, for her decades of tireless work to make the sport she loves inclusive for all. In 2024, she was recognised with an OAM for her work as head aquatics coach at Special Olympics Australia in the early 2000s and for her long involvement in the Hunter swimming scene. Today, she still spends six days a week in the pool, making a splash with her expertise. She has helped athletes living with disability develop for more than 45 years, taught thousands to swim, and supported Special Olympics Australia competitors to train and represent their nation on the world stage. She was included in the hall of fame for her involvement in Special Olympics Australia as a national swimming classifier and as Head Australian Aquatics Coach at the 2013 Special Olympics Asia Pacific Games, where 32 nations competed. Mrs Morris has run free learn-to-swim classes in the Hunter Valley for many years, co-founded the family-friendly and inclusive Coalfields United Amateur Swimming Club, and started Rainbow Club in this region, offering personalised swimming lessons for children living with a disability. Cessnock City mayor Daniel Watton said Mrs Morris had touched many lives during her decades of service to sport. "It is wonderful to formally recognise and celebrate the many important achievements of this remarkable member of our community," he said. Since 2006, the hall of fame has recognised exceptional local community members in one of six categories - arts, business, public service, science, sport, or meritorious families. As part of the recognition, a plaque honouring an inductee is installed in the town or village in which they are most strongly linked, and their name is placed on the Wall of Fame honour roll in the foyer at PACC.
