The OUTLOUD festival had options for expansion, but picking Boston was no accident
Advertisement That mission transcends state lines, too. After five previous editions in West Hollywood, Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up The fact that Consoletti chose Boston over a larger market like New York City for the festival's East Coast expansion feels like a point of pride (no pun intended) for the community. Consoletti has lived and worked in Los Angeles for the past 20 years, where he runs his live event and entertainment agency JJLA. His roots as an event producer, however, trace back to his childhood in Milford, where he was, he said, 'always looking for opportunities to put on shows' for friends and family. (His first-ever event was a puppet show hosted within his parents' garage around age 4 or 5; it drew dozens of his neighbors, although his parents made him give back the money from his hard-earned ticket sales). Advertisement But Consoletti didn't select Boston strictly as a homecoming. The event producer says the city 'inherently felt like a great next place for OUTLOUD to grow in,' particularly because of the local government's advocacy for queer citizens. In 'Standing up and declaring Boston a sanctuary city for transgender individuals and [ensuring] gender-affirming care aligns greatly with the backbone of what OUTLOUD wants to do as well,' he says, emphasizing OUTLOUD's role as a safe, welcoming cultural experience. Consoletti doesn't envision a third location for the festival – not during Pride month, at least – although he hopes OUTLOUD can expand its Boston edition in future years, either by adding another stage, or making it a two-day event like its California counterpart. Advertisement Another future expansion might take the form of a touring show with 'a consortium of artists' that brings similar music experiences to cities that might have fewer resources and accessible environments for the LGBTQ community. 'Some of our cities of interest are D.C., Philadelphia, Columbus, Nashville, Atlanta, Dallas, and Denver – places where [the community] could use some more visible queer representation, and OUTLOUD wants to be that,' Consoletti says. ‘Disrespectful' friend ruins wedding by breaking this major social norm: ‘So hillbilly'
A wedding guest received the surprise of her life when her partner popped the question during her friend's wedding reception in a video that has amassed over 2.5 million views online. The controversial clip has since ignited a debate about wedding etiquette and whether it's appropriate to propose at someone else's nuptials. Alyssa Fowler was at her friend's wedding in Jacksonville, Florida, when her boyfriend, Josh Stepherson, unexpectedly dropped to one knee in the middle of the dance floor. The bride stood directly behind the couple and gasped as she realized what was happening. Man's 'lazy' wedding act Ms Fowler quickly turned to her friend and asked if her boyfriend had asked permission to propose at her wedding. The bride replied, 'No, he didn't, but it's okay! Say yes!' Ms Fowler accepted the proposal and embraced her new fiance as the bride and groom cheered from the sidelines and then lovingly hugged the pair. Alyssa Fowler was at her friend's wedding in Jacksonville, Florida, when her boyfriend, Josh Stepherson, unexpectedly dropped to one knee in the middle of the dance floor. @alyssa_ryannn/TikTok To join in on the TikTok trend – 'a moment that felt like Hozier's yell' – where people share significant life moments set to Noah Kahan's song Northern Attitude (with Hozier), Ms Fowler posted a video of their proposal on TikTok. However, she didn't expect it to spark such an intense response. In one reaction video, someone described the move as 'f**ked up' and 'disrespectful'. Other commenters argued that doing this at someone else's wedding steals attention away from the couple of the night. Meanwhile, some called the act 'uninspired' and said he was trying to capitalise on the nice styling and atmosphere that someone else had created. 'He didn't plan it, he didn't spend money on it. Just lazy,' said one. 'Nothing wrong' Others agreed that the move was in bad taste, with one commenter saying, 'Your boyfriend is so uncreative he couldn't find a unique way to do that for you? This feels so hillbilly trailer parkish'. Many felt sympathy for Ms Fowler, calling her boyfriend's decision an 'ick' and insisting, 'His girlfriend deserved her own special moment'. Among the criticism, a few commenters defended the move, with one saying, 'Always try having an open opinion, these two must be close friends … Nothing wrong with that'. 'Why does everyone think getting married is about being the center of attention for the day? Marriages are about bringing people together and love,' pointed out one person. 'Love makes the world go round, folks'. 'Both very happy for us' Ms Fowler told People that her partner didn't ask permission from the newlyweds first because it was a split-second decision. Mr Stepherson, who has been dating her since 2021, planned to propose the night before but didn't get the chance, so he had the ring in his wallet. In one reaction video, someone described the move as 'f**ked up' and 'disrespectful'. @alyssa_ryannn/TikTok When he caught the bouquet during the toss, he decided to take the opportunity to propose. 'We acknowledge that it would have been more appropriate for Josh to have asked beforehand, but it was an in-the-moment decision. They were both very happy for us,' she said. 'All guests that I have spoken to since have said the timing couldn't have been better, and everything played out perfectly,' she added. While she acknowledged it's not 'typically acceptable,' she urged people to think twice before commenting, especially when they don't know the full story.

Yahoo is using AI to generate takeaways from this article. This means the info may not always match what's in the article. Reporting mistakes helps us improve the experience. Generate Key Takeaways Thunderstorm Artis took another step forward Monday advancing from Top 8 to Top 7 on 'American Idol.' Artis' brother Stevon and sister PraiseJesus were cheerleaders online when voting opened at the top of the broadcast, 2 p.m. Monday, and closed at the final commercial break less than two hours later. The theme of the evening was 'Judges' Song Contest.' Each contestant was given the choice of three songs, chosen for them anonymously, one by each judge. Artis' choices were 'Let It Be, ' by the Beatles ; 'Northern Attitude, ' by Noah Kahan ; and 'Faithfully, ' by Journey. Artis chose 'Faithfully.' The evening also had a wild-card element. After 'American Idol ' host Ryan Seacrest announced the names of the Top 6 vote-getters, the judge or judges whose song suggestions had been selected by the most contestants had the option of saving one of the bottom two. Judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie had tied for the most suggestions taken. They saved Mattie Pruitt and Josh King was eliminated. And so, Artis, Hawaii-born and raised, now living in Nashville, Tenn., will spend the rest of the week preparing for the next round of 'American Idol ' competition on Mother's Day. 'I've been trying to push myself as always, ' he said. 'There's so much tension and so much stress and uncertainty, and its even more than just the competition shrinking down. Every week you're saying goodbye to some of your closest friends that you've cultivated over the last four months.' Artis added that he's found that a moderate amount of stress can inspire growth. 'When I'm comfortable, I think that's when bad things are able to develop. When I'm uncomfortable, I start to grow and see a new side of where I am as an artist.' Performing each week on 'American Idol ' has given him a lot of room to grow. 'There's so much production (on the show ) that you can almost kind of lose yourself in it. And so it's been wonderful to learn how to navigate it all, how to ask for the things that I want and then to balance it all. But at the same time it's been really fun for me to take on each challenge that they present to me. That's why when I'm on each round, I'm trying to find ways to elevate, trying to find ways to show new notes of who I am.' For instance, when Artis was competing for a place in the Top 8, he played a grand piano instead of an acoustic guitar and sang Adele's hit 'When We Were Young ' with a cellist accompanying him. In career terms, Artis is learning things about the entertainment business that will serve him for a lifetime. 'When I start touring at larger scale, I'll start with some of the stage design (I've seen here ), find out the instrumentation that I want to do, the sound that I'm really searching for. The beautiful thing is that trying out so many different genres and ways to push myself has really helped me kind of find a focal point of like, 'Hey, where's my strong suit when I run a tour ? Where do I really want to focus, and where's that really (going ) towards as well ?'' 'American Idol ' competition continues Sunday. Hawaii fans age 16 and older can vote from 2 p.m. Hawaii time until the last commercial break, shortly before 4 p.m., at, via the 'American Idol ' app and by text message. Voters must create an ABC account to vote via the website or app. For text message voting, text the number of your favorite contestant to 21523 (to vote for Artis, text '23 ' to 21523 ); message and data rates might apply. Voters may cast up to 10 votes in each of the three voting methods for a total of up to 30 votes per show. Find performance videos and more at.

Brisbane's iconic sign just got a glow-up — and locals are loving it
Eight bold letters along the Brisbane River have long been a favourite photo opportunity for both locals and tourists alike, and now the iconic Brisbane Sign has been given a fresh new look capturing the essence of Southeast Queensland. South Bank Corporation says the update was aimed at showcasing the spirit of the region while reinvigorating a much-loved public space — a visual love letter to the city's unique character: R —Trails through Tamborine Mountain I — Golden hour at Kangaroo Point Cliffs S — Strolls in the City Botanic Gardens B — Ice cream adventures at South Bank A — Whale watching in Moreton Bay N — Food and culture in Fish Lane and QPAC E — Coastal trails on North Stradbroke Island The original Brisbane Sign, installed for the 2014 G20 Leaders' Summit, featured a simpler design but quickly became a beloved landmark at South Bank. The fresh design is already making waves on social media, with locals and tourists alike praising the vibrant new look. One user wrote: 'What an improvement! So much better than the last one and so much more Brisbane.' Another person commented: 'Much better! The previous one was boring!' And it wasn't just the locals, with a tourist also exclaiming: 'Wow, that's amazing!' One visitor even compared the new design to the energy of singer Hozier's well-known 'yell' in the song Northern Attitude, saying: 'It just hits you in the heart like a song you never knew you needed.'

Watch as 5,000-pound sunfish dwarfs woman swimming during 'once-in-a-lifetime moment'
Watch as 5,000-pound sunfish dwarfs woman swimming during 'once-in-a-lifetime moment' Show Caption Hide Caption Sunfish looks massive in underwater video with diver A diver's video showed the massive size of a sunfish next to another swimmer. No deep-sea adventure is complete without an unusually enormous fish sighting. Luis Miguel Gutierrez Bringas, a sea-diving tour operator, recently captured video of a massive and seemingly unbothered sunfish swimming close to another diver off the coast of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in late March. Gutierrez called the brief interaction with the sunfish, also known as the Mola mola, a 'once-in-a-lifetime moment." 'Finding a sunfish in its natural habitat is a privilege that few can experience. And we were lucky enough to swim with him, observe its behavior and learn more about these amazing animals,' he told Storyful. Gutierrez also documented the experience on social media, writing that "the Underwater World ALWAYS feels like HOZIER'S yell—> Mola mola," referencing the Irish performer's signature belt on "Northern Attitude" featuring Noah Kahan, picked as the video's soundtrack. "A sunfish sighting to remember forever!" is the text displayed over Gutierrez's video. Watch diver swim alongside massive sunfish in Mexico What is the ocean sunfish? The ocean sunfish is the world's heaviest bony fish, not including stingrays or sharks. Mola molas can weigh up to 5,000 pounds. The slow-moving fish looks like the "invention of a mad scientist" with a tiny mouth and big eyes that vanish into an even bigger body with a truncated tail, according to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Sunfish reside in open waters across the globe in tropical and temperate oceans and feed on mainly jellies and other gelatinous zooplankton like salps, squid, fish, crustaceans and algae.
