Jack Draper Needs To Activate Crowd More After Putting Away Popyrin
LONDON, ENGLAND - JUNE 18: Jack Draper of Great Britain plays a forehand against Alexei Popyrin of ... More Australia during the Men's Singles Second Round match on Day Ten of the 2025 HSBC Championships at The Queen's Club on June 18, 2025 in London, England. (Photo by) Jack Draper was a man in a hurry on the first day at Queen's Club when he won in 77 minutes. The next assignment was more in keeping with the duration of a 007 movie. Alexei Popyrin is hovering just outside the ATP top 20 rankings and took the first set off Draper before the number two seed roared back to win 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) in two hours and 13 minutes. That was half an hour less than No Time To Die and the plot was as creaky as Daniel Craig's last outing. Draper survives to meet Brandon Nakashima in the quarterfinals. Draper's own set of cinematic moments is growing as he prepares to take the next leap forward after making the U.S. Open semifinals last September. Jannik Sinner was too strong that day, but that run moved him into the top 20. He had climbed to as high as no. 4 with a superb Indian Wells title, including another win over Carlos Alcaraz, and a run to the Madrid Open final too. The speed of the rise has been impressive although his performance against Popyrin won't be remembered for its aesthetics. Draper's work ethic is well-known, but he lacked a little pizazz in the first act of the last 16 clash with the Australian. Truth be told, the match didn't hold a candle to the Taylor Fritz and Corentin Moutet tussle on Tuesday evening. That was easily the most engaging melodrama of the week so far. Things started to flicker into life in the eighth game when Popyrin found an extra gear in his service returns, breaking Draper to love. When the 25-year-old was in the middle of serving it out, a breeze picked up and blew hats, paper, and even some of the foam rubber of the hoardings onto the court. It brough the loudest cheer of the set. Although the Canadian Open champion served two doubles after everything was cleared, he found an ace with the third attempt to take the opener. Draper was getting agitated and shouted at himself at 2-2 when he threw a double fault in. The vocal release worked as the British No. 1 won the next four games to take things into a decider. The third set plodded on with consistent serving until Popyrin found himself 15-40 at 4-5. He survived and the match inevitably drifted to a match tiebreak. Draper couldn't get the afterburners going today and will have to work on his touch shots a little for Wimbledon. There wasn't a huge amount of creativity involved in breaking Popyrin who rather handed the second set to his opponent on a sliver platter. The heat courtside was surely a factor too given both player's physicality in service games. LONDON, ENGLAND - JUNE 18: Jack Draper of Great Britain waves to fans as he makes his way to court ... More for the Men's Singles Second Round match against Alexei Popyrin of Australia on Day Ten of the 2025 HSBC Championships at The Queen's Club on June 18, 2025 in London, England. (Photo byfor LTA) One thing that the big-serving Londoner might want to think about is rallying the crowd. There hasn't been much of that at the private West Kensington club. Wimbledon's lawns will be just as smooth but the noise more raucous at times. Draper certainly gestured for more at 4-4 in the breaker and found an astonishing backhand ripper to set up match point. He needs to avoid the long slugfests to truly thrive at SW19. "There's days where I need that extra support, today was one of them. Tough match and credit to Alexei. It was a bit up and down but you guys helped me through that so thank you,' said the 23-year-old in the immediate courtside interview. British newspapers are getting excited about Draper's chances to land his home Slam. A few more Andy Murray-style fist pumps could activate the crowd.

Jonathan Bailey: I've unlearned the idea of feeling limited
Jonathan Bailey has "unlearned the idea of feeling limited" as a gay actor in Hollywood. The 37-year-old star has enjoyed huge success in recent years, appearing in the Wicked film and Bridgerton, the hit Netflix series - but Jonathan has been forced to overcome some significant challenges during his time in the entertainment industry. He told The Hollywood Reporter: "You have to unlearn a lot of narratives about yourself that an industry tells you." Despite this, Jonathan admits that the landscape is changing in Hollywood. The actor explained: "Being an out gay actor, historically, meant that you wouldn't be able to play straight and there weren't any gay parts to play, anyway. That's obviously changed, massively." Jonathan observed that other, older actors and actresses have helped to break down barriers within the film industry. And Jonathan is now determined to continue to challenge stereotypes in his career, including playing a starring role in Jurassic World Rebirth. He said: "There's moments where, yes, you have to be excellent to prove that you can do it. And it's not like I haven't felt that. There's the weight of history. And there's endless brilliant people who have come before you who have changed the way that people see sexuality. "Any sort of sense of prejudice against sexuality is something to fight against, and what better way to do that than to go and play any kind of character." Jonathan admits that his outlook has changed during his time in the industry. The movie star - who began his career as a child actor in Royal Shakespeare Company productions in the UK - reflected: "I've unlearned the idea of feeling limited." Meanwhile, Jonathan recently revealed that he would find it "hard to say no" if he was asked to be the next James Bond. The actor is one of several stars to have been linked to the coveted role, after Daniel Craig previously bowed out with 2021's No Time To Die, but Jonathan is "not sure" if he would say yes to the role. Asked on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show on Radio 2 if he would "want" to be Bond, Jonathan replied: "I don't ... I am not sure ... I don't know. "I really, honestly, I mean ... it would be hard to say no." However, the actor - who starred alongside Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the Wicked movie - believes the next Bond film will be "exciting" regardless of who is cast in the lead role. He said: "I know that it's going to be exciting whatever they do."

Jonathan Bailey Breaks Silence On James Bond Rumours: 'Would Be Hard To Say No'
Jonathan Bailey also admitted he was "flattered" to be asked whether he would be up for appearing as 007. Jonathan Bailey would find it 'hard to say no" if he was asked to be the next James Bond. The Bridgerton actor, 37, is one of several stars to have been linked to the part of the suave spy, after Daniel Craig previously bowed out of the role in the 2021 movie No Time To Die, but Jonathan is 'not sure" if he would say yes to the massive role. When asked on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show on Radio 2 if he would 'want" to be Bond, he said: 'I don't … I am not sure … I don't know. I really, honestly, I mean … it would be hard to say no." However, the Wicked and Wicked: For Good actor – who plays Prince Fiyero Tigelaar in the two-part movie musical – believes the next Bond movie will be 'exciting" whoever is in the lead role. He added: 'But I know that it's going to be exciting whatever they do." Jonathan also admitted he was 'flattered" to be asked whether he would be up for appearing as 007. After radio host Scott Mills asked Jonathan about the part, he replied: 'I mean, that's an amazingly flattering ask. 'I could imagine you as James Bond, Scott." Scott replied: 'Well swerved, because that's not true." If Jonathan does become the new James Bond, then it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see the spy on horseback in the next movie. That's after the star previously formed such a bond with a horse called Jack, who he rode in Bridgerton, he requested the equine was cast in Wicked. In a clip posted to Wicked's TikTok account, Jonathan said in a voiceover as he was shown with Jack: 'I went around to see [director] Jon M. Chu before we started filming, and I said to him, I said, 'I think I know who the horse is.' And he was like, 'What do you mean?' It's Jack, the horse that I'd ridden in Bridgerton, who I had an amazing relationship with. People say, don't work with kids and animals. But if it's Jack, I'd say, 'Take the job. He's a legend.' Jonathan Bailey responds to James Bond rumours in awkward exchange with BBC Radio 2 host Scott Mills - after new favourite for the role emerged
Jonathan Bailey responded to rumours linking him to the iconic tux of James Bond during an awkward exchange with Scott Mills on BBC Radio 2. Speculation about the forthcoming movie has been heating up in recent weeks with film-lovers desperate to discover who will be following in the footsteps of Daniel Craig. He relinquished his 'license to kill' with the 2021 film No Time To Die, which also proved to be the last masterminded by Bond producer of 30 years Barbara Broccoli after Amazon took over 'creative control' of the franchise. Having spent a reported $1billion on sealing the deal, the company are said to be fast-tracking the new movie with Hollywood producers David Heyman and Amy Pascal hired to bring in the new era of Bond. They're likely to want to put their own spin on 007, with Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey, 37, said to be one of the names in the running. And during an appearance on Scott Mills's BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Tuesday, Jonathan was asked about the possibilty of him becoming Bond. Pressed by Scott about the rumours, the 37-year-old responded: 'That's an amazingly flattering ask. I mean, it would be hard to say no.' While Bailey stopped short of confirming anything official, he teased: 'I don't know, I really honestly... I mean it would be hard to say no.' The actor then joked with Scott: 'I could imagine you as James Blonde,' to which the host replied: 'Well swerved!' 'I know that it's going to be exciting whatever they do,' Bailey then affirmed. It came after the Brit - who played the starring role in Bridgerton - was tipped for the part of 007 by Harris Dickinson, 28, who had been a bookies' favourite. Harris had been in attendance at a BFI event in Cannes last month when he was asked who he thought would be the best Bond with the questioner saying that he was their 'second choice' for the role. 'Jonathan Bailey is your first choice, so lets go with that,' said Harris. 'That sounds like a good idea.' Both Bailey and Dickinson are however pipped at the top of bookies' odds lists by a number of household names. The current bookies' favourite to become the next Bond is none other than the Divergent series star Theo James, 40, who is currently 6/4. The Brit has previously impressed while playing rogue, morally ambiguous characters somewhat similar to Bond in both The White Lotus and and Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen. But James has played down speculation linking him to the part, telling The Guardian last year that it 'probably wouldn't be me'. While she was planning the new Bond movie, Barbara Broccoli's favourite was thought to be The Divergent star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 34. He momentarily moved down bookies' lists after Amazon's purchase of the franchise, but recently soared back up them after signing a deal with Omega, the official watch provider of Bond. He was also endorsed by former 007 PIerce Brosnan, 72, during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross show last month. 'I think he (Aaron) would make a very fine Bond,' Brosnan said. 'He was actually in one of the movies I made called The Greatest. This young man we cast as The Greatest. 'He was so impressive then. He just had this charisma, he had this presence... he would be so good. But there's many men on the list, I'm sure.' Second favourite to become the latest actor 'with a license to kill' however, according to Ladbrokes, is Superman star Henry Cavill (3/1), ahead of Aaron in third (7/2). While Coral's list of candidates comes in as Theo James at 6/4, Henry Cavill (3/1), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (7/2), James Norton (6/1) and Jack Lowden (12/1). After Daniel Craig's James Bond died at the end of No Time To Die, speculation has been rife as to how the next film will begin. As The Daily Mail reported, the plan is for the new Bond to be a 'straight up' reboot. There is reportedly set to be no explanation of how the special agent is still alive, no multiverse of Bonds and no attempt to go back to the 1960s for a vintage Bond. Amazon bosses are currently said to be considering locations in which to set the much-anticipated new film, which experts predicted is likely to be released at the end of next year or in 2027. Due to a filming ban being imposed in Central London next year, new locations are reportedly being considered - with Liverpool a frontrunner, according to The Sun. An insider told the publication: 'This will no doubt irk Bond purists who already fear Amazon taking over the 007 franchise may lead to them making big changes. 'But Liverpool is a well-known alternative to London for film-makers. 'It has appeared in everything from The Batman to Captain America and Harry Potter movies, doubling up as international cities.' The source added that it doesn't necessarily mean the story will be set in Liverpool - though eagle-eyed Merseysiders will no doubt spot their city centre in the background.
