Did BTS' Suga Complete His Military Duties Before Official Discharge Date?

Last Updated: As the idol was marked 'unfit for regular combat duty", Suga served as a social service agent, which is a non-combat position in the South Korean military. With RM, Jin, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook already back to civilian life, ARMYs are waiting for Suga's discharge, which will reunite BTS after a wait of nearly three years. Min Yoongi, aka Suga, effectively completed his mandatory military service a couple of days before what was previously revealed, which led to speculations of whether he would be discharged earlier than his scheduled day. While Suga has completed his public service duties as of Wednesday, June 18, his official discharge date is still June 21. As reported by News1, the BTS member is using his remaining vacation days and no longer needs to go back to his workplace and report for duty after June 18. This was done through the standard process, and Suga did not receive any special treatment. Suga began his alternative military service on September 22, 2023, and also completed the basic training upon enlistment. Unlike the other six members of BTS who served in regular military roles, Suga's service was a bit different. As the idol was marked 'unfit for regular combat duty", probably due to his 2020 shoulder surgery, Suga served as a social service agent, which is a non-combat position in the South Korean military. His duties were more focused towards public service work rather than physical military tasks. Suga had to serve 21 months as a social service agent, instead of the usual 18 months' duty that the other BTS members served. Now that Suga's service is nearly over, fans are buzzing with excitement about the reunion of the OT7, which fans got a glimpse of recently. On June 13, on the occasion of BTS' 12th anniversary, all seven members of the globally renowned K-pop group were seen together at J-Hope's encore concert at the Goyang Stadium in Seoul, South Korea. Suga was also present, although he kept his appearance low-key in a beanie and mask, avoiding showing his face. As per a report by The Korea Herald, BTS is also planning to make a mega comeback to the music scene next year. Reportedly, the septet is set to make its long-awaited full-group comeback in March 2026. Moreover, J-Hope, during his appearance on MBC's variety show Point of Omniscient Interfere, talked about BTS' comeback. He said, 'We're planning to gather and discuss the album. We're trying to prepare as quickly as possible. Since BTS is all about performances, we're also planning a full group world tour," which increased the excitement among fans manifold. Did BTS' SUGA get early release from military? All about last day of social work on June 18 ahead of discharge day

SUGA has finished his alternative service as of June 18. According to a report from Korean media outlet News1, the BTS member has effectively concluded his time as a social service worker a couple of days before what was previously revealed. With unexpected changes in BTS' SUGA's discharge schedule, fans have been curious to know if he will be back to his civilian status on the same day. However, the report has clarified that the singer's discharge date will continue to be June 21. How did SUGA complete military service early? It is being said that the rapper is all set to use his remaining vacation days from June 19 onwards, not to be required to go back to his workplace after June 18, essentially ending his time as an enlisted man in the ROK military's alternative service. These vacation days accrued over the time of his service are believed to be normal vacation days, without any special treatment being awarded to the star. As such, SUGA will not be required to visit his social service location after leaving work on June 18. The BTS member first enlisted on September 22, 2023, taking basic military training despite having enlisted under an alternative social service. As a result, he was required to serve for 21 months instead of the 18 months of duty that is expected from active soldiers, which was taken up by the rest of the group's members, including Jin, J-Hope, RM, V, Jimin, and Jungkook. With SUGA officially ending his service, all BTS members have served their time in the military and are now getting ready to make a full-group comeback soon. Recently, the entire team was spotted supporting fellow star J-Hope at his HOPE ON THE STAGE concert in Goyang, where the Haegeum singer appeared with a mask on, but made sure to wave to his fans when the attention turned to them. It was previously reported that the South Korean boy group would be releasing new music in March 2026. However, their agency, BIGHIT MUSIC, has since responded, stating that the schedule has not been decided upon so far. It remains to be seen if the band will announce a world tour following their reunion.

Ju Haknyeon denies involvement with sex workers after THE BOYZ exit, apologises to fans in handwritten letter

Ju Haknyeon, a member of the K-pop group THE BOYZ, has broken his silence on the reports that claimed that he stepped down from the group and his agency, One Hundred Label, because of his involvement in a sex working scandal. Taking to his Instagram Stories, the star denied the reports and apologised to fans who have been 'greatly shocked by the news'. (Also read: Ju Haknyeon exits THE BOYZ after controversial 'meeting with Japanese porn star') Ju Haknyeon posted a handwritten letter on Instagram Stories, which read as follows: 'Hello. This is Ju Haknyeon. First, I apologise to the fans who must have been greatly shocked by the news about me, as well as everyone whom I gave cause for concern through this unsavoury matter.' He went on to add, 'In the wee hours of the morning of May 30, 2025, I did attend a private gathering with alcohol together with an acquaintance, and while it is true that I was at that gathering, it is completely false that I engaged in any illegal activity, such as the sex work that is being mentioned in news reports and rumors. I am deeply reflecting on my actions, and I would like to sincerely apologise to everyone who has been shocked and disappointed.' It all started when Korean media outlet News1, as cited by Koreaboo, stated that Ju Haknyeon was seen meeting former Japanese adult film actor Kirara Asuka at a bar in Roppongi, Tokyo, on May 29. A day ago, an official statement agency confirmed that Ju Haknyeon will be leaving both THE BOYZ and the agency. The statement said, 'Hello, this is One Hundred. We recently took action to suspend Ju Haknyeon's activities as soon as we were informed that he was involved in a controversial incident in order to take time to thoroughly investigate and verify the facts.' The Boyz will now be a 10-member group including Sangyeon (the leader), Jacob, Younghoon, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Kevin, New, Q, Sunwoo, and Eric.

Ju Hak-nyeon leaves The Boyz after seen drinking with Japanese former AV actress, Entertainment News

Ju Hak-nyeon from The Boyz has left the K-pop boy group. South Korean publication News1 said in a report published yesterday (June 18) they had obtained a letter of inquiry sent from Japanese tabloid paper Shukan Bunshun to The Boyz's management agency One Hundred about him drinking with Japanese adult video (AV) actress-turned-influencer Asuka Kirara. He was reportedly seen hugging her at a Tokyo bar last month. While the 26-year-old admitted to meeting her, he firmly denied engaging in prostitution. "I am deeply reflecting on my actions and once again sincerely apologise to those who were disappointed or hurt because of me," he said in a handwritten note yesterday (June 18). Asuka began her AV career in 2007 and retired in 2020, also launching a music career in those years. One Hundred's statement released yesterday, as translated by Soompi, reads: "As soon as we were informed of issues involving Hak-nyeon's private life, our company immediately suspended his activities and took time to thoroughly verify the facts. "As a result, we have come to recognise the seriousness of this issue and have clearly determined that it is no longer possible for us to maintain the trust in him as an artist. After sufficient discussions with the members of The Boyz, we have made the final decision for Hak-nyeon to depart the team and to terminate his exclusive contract." On June 16, One Hundred had announced that he would be taking a hiatus for "personal reasons". Hak-nyeon was a contestant on Produce 101 season two before he debuted with The Boyz in 2017. He isn't the first one to leave the group. In 2019, Hwall, whose real name is Hur Hyun-jun, departed due to health issues and is currently pursuing solo activities. There are 10 remaining members: Sangyeon, Jacob, Younghoon, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Kevin, New, Q, Sunwoo and Eric. [[nid:719268]] syarifahsn@

Manipulated report falsely claims S.Korea and US presidents did not speak

"How embarrassing," reads the Korean-language caption of an image shared on Facebook on June 7, 2025. The image appears to be a screenshot of a report from South Korean wire service News1 headlined, "[Breaking] White House spokesperson denies Trump spoke to South Korean President Lee Jae-myung". The report carries the byline of correspondent Ryu Jeong-min. The post circulated shortly after South Korea's presidential office announced that Lee had held his first phone call with Trump on the evening of June 6 -- his following his victory in a snap election (archived here and here). The two leaders discussed efforts toward concluding a tariff deal, and Trump also invited Lee to Washington, according to the South Korean presidential office. South Korean media noted the call -- three days after the election -- came later than it had for Lee's predecessors, and speculated about a change in the relationship between Seoul and Washington (archived link). Image Screenshot of the false Facebook post, captured on June 9, 2025 The screenshot of the purported News1 report was also some commenters accusing Lee of fabricating the call and damaging South Korea's international standing. "They're openly making up lies, how will Lee ever be able to talk to Trump now?" read a comment on one of the posts. Another said: "South Korea has immediately become a pariah on the world stage." While neither Trump nor the White House have issued a public statement about the call, the report circulating online has been altered. 'Obviously manipulated' A keyword search using the name of the reporter in the doctored article found he wrote a breaking news report on June 6 titled "[Breaking] Trump held phone call with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung" (archived link). The article was filed from Washington and cites the confirming via a White House official that the call did occur (archived link). Image Screenshot comparison of the manipulated report shared on social media (left) and the original News1 report published June 6 (right) over email on June 9 that the report about a supposed denial from the White House was "obviously manipulated" and that his actual report confirmed the call had taken place. For example, there was no White House statement about phone calls between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping on June 6 or with Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on May 22 (archived here and here). As of June 10, there have been no official reports contradicting South Korea's announcement of the call between Lee and Trump. AFP previously debunked a digitally altered photo shared online claiming to show Trump's response to South Korea's presidential election.
