Emotional moment comedian Celeste Barber reveals why The Project axing is 'loss' to the arts - as hard hitting news show replacing it is revealed
Celeste Barber has shared an emotional moment with the outgoing cast of The Project after the show was axed. The comedian said she strong-armed her way onto the show after learning it was in its final days. The 43-year-old said she wanted to express how important the show was to comedians and people in the arts like herself. 'I actually nudged my way in to come onto the show tonight, everyone. I wasn't meant to be on, but when I heard that you guys aren't going to be around for much longer, I wanted to come on and say hi' she said. 'I know other people have said it, there is no other show that does what you guys do. There is no other show that supports the arts, supports touring comedians in this country, there just isn't. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'I appreciate it and I hate interviews, I hate them. I never do them. I really don't like them, but I always love coming here and talking with you guys. 'It means the world that you have always got me on. All through the weird stuff that I do' Celeste added. Her comments drew 'awws' from the show's panel of hosts, who were clearly moved. The Project was officially axed after 16 years last week, and will air its final episode on June 27. Network 10 announced the news last Monday, sharing a post to Facebook thanking viewers for their support before announcing the show's replacement. Hosts Waleed Aly, Sarah Harris and Hamish Macdonald will also reportedly exit the network, while comedian Sam Taunton will continue his guest appearances on other Ten shows. The news show, which has been in a ratings free-fall since Carrie Bickmore left her seat as host at the end of 2022, has aired 'nearly 4,500 episodes' to date and will wrap up in three weeks. Daily Mail Australia previously revealed The Project was under review and set to be axed on March 16. After announcing The Project was ending, Ten then released another statement announcing a news program will be replacing the axed show. 'Network 10 will be introducing a revised early evening program schedule later this month,' a spokesperson said. 'At the core of the changes will be an expansion of Network 10's successful news coverage, with the launch of a new national one-hour 6pm news, current affairs and insights program six days a week to complement 10's one-hour 5pm local news bulletins. 'This reflects the successful growth in audiences to Network 10 local news bulletins and coverage. Our focus continues to be on serving our free-to-air audiences with more of the content they are increasingly watching.' The new show taking over the slot left behind by the axing of The Project has dropped its first trailer. Channel Ten has shared a glimpse of their upcoming 'classy' current affairs show called 10 News+ in a teaser trailer posted to social media on Tuesday night. In the clip, hosts Denham Hitchcock and Amelia Brace promise to deliver 'trust and truth' and put the 'truth first' in their reporting on the new show, which begins airing on Monday, June 30 at 6pm, after the five o'clock news bulletin. 'After 30 years as an on the road journalist, travelling to every corner of the globe, two things are constant - trust and the truth' Hitchcock said. 'Covering news can really throw you into the thick of it. You get to see an experience history unfolding' Brace added. 'Now together, we're bringing you 10 News+ at six from Monday, June 30' Hitchcock announced. A preview of what the show will have on offer was then related by Brace, including 'a political party torn apart, conflicts causing chaos, bills pushing families to the brink. 'If it affects your life, we will ask the tough questions' the pair promised.

The Project former co-host Lisa Wilkinson breaks her silence on shock cancellation
The Project former co-host Lisa Wilkinson has broken her silence on the show's shock cancellation. The 65-year-old veteran presenter, who co-hosted the Channel Ten panel show from 2018 - 2022, recently shared a precious gallery of throwback photos from her time on the program to social media. One picture captured a beaming Lisa posing on the set alongside her former co-stars, including Carrie Bickmore, Waleed Aly and Peter Helliar. Another showed Lisa having fun with several of the A-List guests who appeared on the program, including Magda Szubanski, Tommy Little and Backstreet Boys stars Brian Littrell and Nick Carter. She captioned the gallery with some heartbreaking words. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'Vale The Project. So many talented people, so many laughs, so many incredibly important stories - many of which may have otherwise never been told,' Lisa began. 'It was a joy and privilege to be a part of it all. My love to everyone, particularly the huge hard-working team behind the scenes. Along with the audience, you were the true heart and soul of the show.' It comes after The Project was officially axed this week and will air its final episode on June 27. Network 10 announced the news on Monday, sharing a post to Facebook thanking viewers for their support before announcing the show's replacement. Hosts Waleed Aly, Sarah Harris and Hamish Macdonald will also reportedly exit the network, while comedian Sam Taunton will continue his guest appearances on other Ten shows. Meanwhile, one of the shows former stars, Peter Helliar has revealed the emotional toll the shock axing has had on himself and his former co-workers. Appearing on Nova's Jase and Lauren on Tuesday, the veteran presenter, who co-hosted the panel show from 2014 - 2022, admitted he was devastated over the cancellation. 'Really sad. What an amazing legacy that show has, 16 years. Very few shows get to the second season. This was like the little engine that could,' he said. 'In its first year, it was going to get axed every second week. And 16 years later to see that the people have become household names who have gone through that show!' Helliar, who quit the show in 2022, the same year Carrie Bickmore, Tommy Little and Lisa, said he believes the axing will leave a huge gap in Australian television. 'I don't think audiences realise what they'll miss out on now. The amount of comedians, musicians and filmmakers who have said to me over the years, "The Project was the reason we sold tickets." That's missing now,' he said. He added that several of his former Project colleagues told him they had a 'really hard day' upon hearing the news. The news show, which has been in a ratings free-fall since Bickmore left her seat as host at the end of 2022, has aired 'nearly 4,500 episodes' to date and will wrap up in three weeks. The Project first aired in July 2009 and exceeded more than a million metro viewers at the height of its success - It boasted a rotating panel with stars like Aly, Harris, Tunny, Hamish Macdonald, Rove McManus, Taunton and Susie Youssef. It won several accolades including 11 Logie Awards - two of which were viewer-voted Gold Logies won by Aly and Bickmore. However, audiences began to dwindle in recent years and earlier this month, it attracted between 238,000 and 357,000 viewers nationally.

Carrie Bickmore shares incredible throwback images of her wild 2000s hairdos on The Project in the wake of show's axing
Carrie Bickmore has shared a touching tribute to The Project after the flagship program was axed by Network 10 on Monday after 16 years. The radio host, 44, who quit the show in 2022 after 12 years on the panel, took to Instagram on Thursday to post a 'trip down memory lane' celebrating her time on the show. Carrie also included a hilarious throwback clip reel to honour The Project team, past and present - including a few seconds from the very first episode in July 2009. The famously bubbly host selected a series of gaffes and cringeworthy segments for her tribute, as well as fashion fails, including her own questionable 'hair looks'. She also included a clip of a touching throwback clip of a segment dedicated to her late husband Greg Lange who died of brain cancer at 35 in 2010. Pictured on the show in its heyday She also shared a publicity still from the early in which she can be seen posing beside co-host Charlie Pickering and panelist Dave Hughes. 'I've been on a trip down memory lane these last few days after the sad news about The Project ending after 16 years,' Carrie said in a lengthy story accompanying the post. She continued, 'It was a huge part of my life for 14 years and I made life long friends there. 'I have so much respect for all the hosts who have shared the chairs over the years. Especially the ones there now. 'The effort and creativity involved in turning around a daily news show is extraordinary and it's the faces you don't see who show up day after day that deserve so much credit. 'Boy we laughed, boy we cried, boy we told some incredible stories, and boy we fought for those who couldn't fight for themselves. 'Love us or hate us (everyone had very strong views. Many who hadn't even seen the show) but I hope we were company for you all and thank you for letting us in to your lounge rooms every night. 'Remember the show fondly. It takes guts to try something different. Carrie also included a few seconds from the very first episode in July 2009 '(I have thousands more memories, this is literally what I found quickly in my camera roll).' It comes after Carrie spoke out about the shows cancellation earlier this week. Taking to Instagram, Carrie, who won a Gold Logie while on the show, said it was 'sad news' to see the program be canned. The media personality re-shared a quote from anchor Waleed Aly which read: 'The Project kicked down the door of how news could be done.' Carrie responded to the statement on her Stories, writing: 'Absolutely it did. Such sad news today.' She continued: 'Regardless of how you felt about the show (everyone seemed to have very strong opinions about it both ways) it changed the way news was delivered and I am so proud of what the show and everyone involved in making it achieved. 'You've never met a more passionate, engaged bunch.' Carrie
