NADI, TM Introduce AI-Powered Robotic Dogs At LIMA'25
GENERAL By Nazira Hasanah Nasaruddin LANGKAWI, May 24 (Bernama) -- The sight of two AI-powered robotic dogs has become one of the main attractions for visitors at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA'25), held at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) since yesterday. One of them was introduced by National Aerospace Defense Industries Sdn Bhd (NADI), an AI-powered robotic dog designed as a Quadruped Unmanned Ground Vehicle (Q-UGV) to support security, defence, and industrial applications. NADI Group senior engineer Wayne Lim said the dog, named Asuk, was developed in collaboration with Ghost Robotics of the United States. The Q-UGV serves as a foundational platform in NADI's long-term strategy to build an ecosystem of intelligent, interoperable unmanned systems capable of operating across land, sea and air domains. He said the dog was named Asuk, which in Sarawak means dog, and the name also serves as an abbreviation for 'Anjing Siber Unit Khas'. 'Weighing 50 kilogrammes, the robotic dog offers up to 24 hours of autonomous operation and is capable of performing reconnaissance in hazardous environments such as disaster zones, combat areas, and high-risk industrial sites. Asuk is also designed to withstand moderate weather conditions, featuring an IP67 rating for splash and dust resistance. 'The Q-UGV is designed to evolve with advancements in AI, autonomy and sensor technology. We aim to lead in developing unmanned systems that operate safely, efficiently and effectively across diverse mission environments,' he told Bernama here today. According to Lim, the platform's modular payloads can be customised to suit mission needs, and several Malaysian defence and emergency response agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department and the Royal Malaysia Police, are currently evaluating the system through technical demonstrations and field trials. He said the dog, equipped with Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR), infrared or thermal sensors, inertial measurement units (IMUs), cameras and chemical sensors, can carry out surveillance, threat detection and payload delivery with minimal human intervention.

Aerotree Introduces Malaysia's First Cargo Drone, Targeting Logistics, Defence Sectors
GENERAL By Nazira Hasanah Nasaruddin LANGKAWI, May 24 (Bernama) -- In a move to enhance Malaysia's logistics and defence capabilities, local company, Aerotree Defence and Services Sdn Bhd (Aerotree) unveiled the DJI Flycart 30, the country's first cargo drone, at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA'25). Aerotree Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation (ACMI) project director Mohd Aizat Mohd Aris said the drone is designed to carry a load of up to 30 kilogrammes, providing an efficient and competitive solution for logistics delivery. 'The idea to develop this cargo drone originated from Aerotree president and chief executive officer Datuk Halim Othman during the COVID-19 pandemic, when logistical challenges and movement restrictions affected all sectors,' he said. 'Following that, research and development were conducted with the expertise of local engineers, including former military personnel and flight school graduates, supported by technology from China to produce the DJI Flycart 30,' he told Bernama here today. He added that the cargo drone is capable of medium-distance logistics deliveries up to 16 km, with a flight duration of approximately 30 minutes. It is also designed to withstand moderate weather conditions, featuring an IP55 rating for splash and dust resistance. The drone is intended for delivering goods to locations such as ports, military operation sites, and hard-to-reach areas, thereby reducing reliance on human labour. 'We have also engaged in discussions with the army regarding the need to deliver supplies to personnel in forest areas, which is a more cost-effective solution compared to using helicopters. In addition, our target market includes commercial delivery service companies. However, he noted that Aerotree is still awaiting full operational approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), as the drone must comply with safety regulations, altitude limits, operating range, and frequency usage to ensure it does not interfere with commercial aviation systems.

Young Siblings In Pilot Uniform Steal The Show At LIMA'25
GENERAL By Nazira Hasanah Nasaruddin LANGKAWI, May 23 (Bernama) -- Amid thousands of visitors at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA'25), the sight of two young siblings fully dressed in Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) camouflage and pilot overalls stole the spotlight today. Despite the scorching heat, nine-year-old Ahmad Rayyan Ahmad Saiful Roshairi and five-year-old Ahmad Rizzqi Ahmad Saiful Roshairi, were visibly excited as they admired rows of fighter jets and helicopters on display at the tarmac of the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC). They were even more thrilled when they had the chance to take photos with members of the RMAF. Their mother, Adh Dhuhaa Azmi, 33, said her sons had been up since 5 am out of sheer excitement to wear their specially tailored uniforms which she ordered from Melaka, complete with accessories for their visit to this year's exhibition. 'We come to LIMA every two years because we live nearby in Utan Aji, Perlis, but this is the first time for both my boys. They've always been fascinated by uniformed services, especially since their father is a member of the Malaysian Volunteer Corps Department (RELA),' she told Bernama. 'They were thrilled to take photos with aircraft and ships on the tarmac. We were just a little disappointed that we only got to watch air shows from Russia and Indonesia,' she said. Meanwhile, housewife Izzati Hanani Samsuddin, 36, from Banting, Selangor, said her family had only seen LIMA on television before, but this year, they decided to visit Langkawi to experience the air shows and maritime exhibition up close. 'To avoid congestion, we arrived in Langkawi as early as May 18. We bought our tickets online as they were cheaper and more convenient, and we did not have to wait in long queues.
