South Korean leader zings Albo

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has delivered a humbling blow to Anthony Albanese, claiming the Prime Minister was much younger and better-looking than he sounded. The diplomatic jab preceded Mr Albanese and Mr Lee's bilateral meeting on Tuesday (AEST), with both leaders invited by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to attend the G7 Leaders Summit as outreach partners. 'You look much younger and good-looking than I imagined from your voice,' Mr Lee told Mr Albanese through his translator. This was the first time the leaders had met face-to-face, though they had earlier spoken on the phone. The comment earned a solid laugh from Mr Albanese and the journalists from the room. Mr Albanese later joked in response: 'Thank you for your kind comments, I think winning an election takes a few years off your age'. What will the weather be like for dawn and ANZAC services?

People heading out to dawn services across the country tomorrow won't need an umbrella, but will need warm layers, says a MetService meteorologist. The forecaster expected settled but cooler temperatures for much of the country for the rest of the week. MetService meteorologist Mmathapelo Makgabutlane told Breakfast it would be "a chilly start" for many parts of the country on Friday morning, with some beginning the day with single-digit temperatures. Watch the full interview with MetService on TVNZ+. "For most of us, we won't be needing an umbrella on Friday morning, apart from just a few spots. Parts of Northland, maybe parts of Auckland, Coromandel," she said. "But for the bulk of us, what we may be needing is to wrap up nice and warm, as it is looking like a chilly start. Plenty of single-digit temperatures, maybe even some frosty areas for both the North Island as well as parts of the South Island." Makgabutlane said the Easter period had been "a bit of a washout" after ex-Cyclone Tam dampened the long weekend with heavy downpours and intense thunderstorms. She said for this long weekend, it was a mixed bag of conditions across the country. Eastern parts of the South Island looked the best, with a few more cloudy periods and showers closer to Westport. She said residents in Northland, Auckland and Coromandel would pay to have some indoor activities lined up over the weekend with some scattered showers forecast into Sunday. Watch the dawn service from Wellington from 6am and the National Commemorative Service from 11am on TVNZ1, TVNZ+ and

Anzac Day A Time To Recommit To Veterans

This Anzac Day, Labour recognises veterans and the service they have given to our country. 'We back the people who have served our country, on deployment or supporting operations here at home,' Labour veterans' affairs spokesperson Greg O'Connor said. 'On this day we recognise the sacrifices they have made and acknowledge there is still work to do. 'Our current system still treats veterans differently based on when they served. The law says that those who served after 1974 aren't entitled to the same support as those who served before that date, creating a two-tiered system. Meanwhile, in Australia they have a much more consistent veterans' support system. 'Anzac Day is a reminder that our armed forces serve together, regardless of the decade or deployment. Let's make sure our support for them reflects that same spirit of unity. 'I know Minister for Veterans' Affairs Chris Penk shares the same commitment, and I want to reiterate Labour's willingness to work across the aisle to deliver better outcomes for those who have worn the uniform. 'I remain ready to support meaningful change that gives veterans the support and dignity they deserve,' Greg O'Connor said. This Anzac Day, Greg O'Connor will attend the Dawn Service and the National Commemorative Service at Pukeahu National War Memorial Park. He will also attend the Atatürk Memorial Service in the afternoon.
