The Justice Gang We'll Meet in ‘Superman' Is Coming Into Focus

Even casual fans know a lot about Superman already ahead of James Gunn's upcoming film named for the character. He's starred in plenty of films and TV shows, including some very recent releases. Lois Lane and Lex Luthor? We know them too. But what about Superman's support team that'll be introduced in the film as the Justice Gang? In a new profile, Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern Guy Gardner), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), and Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific) shared a bit about what to expect from their characters. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Fillion cuts to the chase: 'If you want to know something about Guy Gardner, know this: he has a bowl cut and he's into it.' As a member of the Green Lantern Corps, he has extraordinary powers, and he's been tasked to use them to protect Earth. However, as Fillion put it, 'If you have an emergency and you need a Green Lantern, this is the last one you want.' He also explained the character is fearless (or foolish) enough to think he can take on Superman, and as Gathegi futher explained, 'Guy Gardner's famously an asshole, so he's not really liked by anybody except for Guy Gardner, which is really fun.' Comic relief for a Fillion role makes sense. The other two Justice Gang members take things a little more seriously. As Merced explained it, Hawkgirl is a 'badass' who's in touch with her alien roots but is also 'a modern girl.' She won't get too much of a spotlight in Superman, but Gunn is bringing Hawkgirl to season two of Peacemaker alongside Fillion's Guy Gardner, which Merced called a 'more blatantly comical' context for her character. As for Mister Terrific, Gathegi described him as 'one of the most philosophically compelling heroes in DC. He's an atheist who believes in justice.' He's also notably 'unemotional,' the actor said. 'I did have my ideas of how to play the stoicism of this character, and then I found myself in these scenes going, 'This feels a little psychotic' … I think in the doing of it, we found a lot more color and more complexity and just more humanization.' Gathegi also noted that like Guy Gardner and Hawkgirl, his character is slated to return in DC projects beyond Superman—though he didn't specify where or when. Superman opens one month from today: July 11.

Nathan Fillion Teases His LANTERNS Series Return as Guy Gardner Calling Him "A Little Bit Higher Strung" — GeekTyrant

Actor Nathan Fillion has been having fun promoting his DC character Guy Gardner in James Gunn's DC Universe. He has referred to his take on the character as Sophia from The Golden Girls , and has said he's 'a jerk,' and calls him 'the green lantern that nobody likes.' We will all be introduced to him in Superman next month, but Fillion is now teasing what fans can expect from the character down the road in the DC series Lanterns , which is set for 2026. In an interview with EW, Fillion teased his version of Green Lantern, stating, "I love the idea that if you have an emergency and you need a Green Lantern — there's thousands of them out there in the galaxy — this is the last one you want." He went on to talk about the series, saying, "I think he feels a little bit higher strung in Lanterns . I've done a scene in Lanterns , we filmed it already, where he's contently smug. It's neat to see him in different environments and how those different environments will affect a character." Fillion further teases of Guy, who will also appear in this fall's Peacemaker season 2 prior to Lanterns , "What is very true about Guy you don't have to be good and pure of heart to be a Green Lantern. You just have to be fearless. You just have to have the will. And Guy Gardner thinks he can take on Superman. That's how fearless he is. No, you can't take on Superman, dude.' It will be fun to see Fillion in this role. He is a great comedic actor, and he has great instincts on screen. Superman hits theaters on July 11, 2025, and Lanterns is set for a 2026 debut.

SUPERMAN Featurette Sees Nathan Fillion Embrace Guy Gardner's Bowl Cut, But Lois Lane Hates It — GeekTyrant

A new behind-the-scenes featurette dropped for James Gunn's Superman giving us a new look at Nathan Fillion's take on Green Lantern Guy Gardner… and if focuses on the infamous bowl cut. Fans have been curious how Fillion would pull off Gardner's abrasive style, both in attitude and appearance. As it turns out, the answer is… unapologetically. In the video, Gunn walks us through how they settled on the hairstyle, revealing that Fillion wore a wig that was then meticulously shaped into Guy's signature helmet-hair look, and it looks exactly as ridiculous as it should. Fillion admits in the featurette, 'There was some talk about different hairstyles. There was some talk about some different types of things we were going to go. I was team bowl cut the whole way. It's canon. It's set. I said, 'If we don't do a bowl cut, we're going to hear about it.'' 'Now, here's the thing,' Fillion added. 'I have another job [The Rookie] with a boss who's kind enough to let me out for other projects. But I think he would draw the line at a bowl cut police officer.' The footage ends with a quick clip from the movie, where Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) absolutely roasts Guy during what appears to be a heated Daily Planet encounter. 'Maybe not having an awful haircut should be in your vows,' she says, and Guy does not take it well. Superman arrives in theaters on July 11, 2025.

SUPERMAN Character Posters Feature Superman, Krypto, The Justice Gang, and More — GeekTyrant

DC Studios has released the first wave of Superman character posters, and they spotlight the movie's superhero metahumans. Below, you'll see Superman (David Corenswet), Krypto, Superman Robot #4 (Alan Tudyk), Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced). I imagine these posters will be followed by more posters that put the focus on the villains of the film. Superman will tell the story of 'Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. 'He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned. 'It's set in a world very different from ours and far removed from the DCEU. Heroes have been around for ages, and we'll see how it affected this world's history and has shaped the DCU." The movie is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
