Power cuts stretching 1-8 hours plague residents in Nashik city
Nashik: Strong winds and heavy rainfall late on Thursday caused power outages lasting from one to eight hours across several Nashik residential areas.
Falling of tree branches and, in some cases, entire trees disrupted the power lines. An official from the
Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited
(MSEDCL) said that electricity to the Peth Road area was cut after a tree fell on a power line, damaging the conductor.
"Repair crews worked through the rain, restoring power within about two hours after the 11.50pm outage," the official said.
Separately, the MERI-Rasbihari Link Road area experienced a power failure affecting around 100 residents when a distribution box was damaged and a transformer failed due to the severe weather.
The areas that faced power disruption for longer durations include Sai Nagar in Panchavati, Shivaji Wadi near Indiranagar, Adgaon, Nashik Agriculture Produce Market Committee area and Mahkmalabad.
Power outages in most areas were brief, with officials choosing to temporarily switch off the supply due to disruptions. Once the rainfall subsided, electricity was typically restored within 30 minutes.
"However, in some instances, the restoration took over two hours. This was primarily due to linemen having to manually inspect power lines and climb each electric pole to check for damaged insulators, a time-consuming process," the official said.
