Suvendu leads BJP rally on Anubrata turf
1 2 Kolkata: BJP organised a rally to protest against Trinamool strongman Anubrata Mondal on his home turf Bolpur on Monday for his remarks against the local IC. LOP Suvendu Adhikari, who led the 'Nari Samman Yatra', said: "Police should arrest Mondal. The probe is just an eye-wash to protect him." "Birbhum has protested against Mondal's abuses against IC's mother and wife. People have taken to the streets to voice their protest against the abuses hurled at women by TMC netas. Public has the last word in a democracy. We will hold a similar rally on June 19 at Suri," Adhikari said.

West Bengal BJP holds rally over TMC leader's ‘vile' remarks on women
The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a Nari Samman Yatra on Monday (June 9, 2025) to protest derogatory remarks made by Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal directed at the wife and mother of the Officer-in-Charge of Bolpur Police Station. The Trinamool Congress let the Birbhum strongman off with an apology, but the police have registered an FIR. The BJP, to register their protest, organised a major procession in Bolpur, which was led by Suvendu Adhikari. Speaking at a meeting in Bolpur, Mr. Adhikari said that the mother and wife who were insulted represent the honour of all women in the State. 'Anubarta (Mondal) used this language against the Officer-in-Charge, directing it at his wife and mother. Can someone utter such language? Had Yogi Adityanath been the Chief Minister he would have been in prison,' Mr. Adhikari said at the rally. Anubrata Mondal appeared before the police on June 5, several days after an FIR was registered against him at Bolpur Police station. The FIR was in connection with an audio where Mr. Mondal is heard abusing and threatening the police officer using vile language not only against him but also towards his wife and mother. Referring to the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata's R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, the BJP leader claimed that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee could not understand the pain of another woman and offered ₹10 lakh to the parents of the victim, which they refused. It is now 10 months since the gruesome rape and murder, and a crowd had gathered outside Tala Police Station in Kolkata, under whose jurisdiction the crime was reported on August 9, 2024. OBC Yatra Mr. Adhikari announced that after the Nari Samman Yatra, the BJP leadership in the State is planning to organise a OBC Adhikaar Yatra. On Sunday the BJP leader held a protest rally at Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas. Women leaders of Trinamool, including Minister Sashi Panja, and MP Kakuli Ghosh Dastidar, held a press conference in Kolkata and said that the BJP has no right to speak of honour and respect for women. 'Women cannot take any more insults from the BJP. Yesterday, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, while speaking at Sandeshkhali, said that women should not sell their shankha-sindoor for ₹500–1,000 for the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme.' Lakshmir Bhandar is a cash incentive scheme of the West Bengal government that was launched in February 2021, under which ₹1,200 per month is given to women in reserved categories, and ₹1,000 to women from the general category. 'Lakshmir Bhandar is not a handout. It is the lifeline of Bengal's women. And as long as Smt. @MamataOfficial is at the helm, no force can snatch that away. Insulting Bengal's women will cost you dearly,' the Trinamool Congress said in a statement on social media.'

Anubrata Mondal audio tape: NCW seeks action-taken report from Bengal DGP Rajeev Kumar within 72 hours
The National Commission for Women (NCW) Thursday wrote to West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Kumar regarding the purported verbal abuse of a cop in Birbhum by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Anubrata Mondal. According to the letter sent by Archana Majumdar, a member of the NCW, 'The National Commission for Women expresses deep concern over the apparent inaction by the state police in this matter, despite clear and widespread public outrage. This inaction not only emboldens such repeat offenders but also deeply undermines the morale of the police force and shakes public confidence in the neutrality and responsiveness of law enforcement agencies. You are aware that Mr Mondal has a long and well-documented history of intimidation, criminal conduct, and corruption, including arrest and custody by the CBI in previous cases.' Majumdar told media persons that 'the NCW has sought an action-taken report in the matter,' adding that 'if the wife and mother of the police officer face such a situation, then what is the condition of common citizens of the State.' The Commission has asked DGP Rajeev Kumar to submit the report within 72 hours from the time of receipt of the letter. After the audio of the telephone conversation went viral, sources said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has also started a fresh probe to find out whether any witness in the cattle-smuggling case had been similarly intimidated either by Mondal or any of his associates to change their statements. Reacting to the NCW notice, TMC spokesperson Joy Prakash Majumdar said, 'The NCW now is being used for political purposes, and it is sad that they have lost their independence and impartiality. In BJP-ruled states, there are reports of enormous misconduct against women… the NCW never utters a word or interferes in such states. On the other hand, in places like West Bengal, they make political statements for the benefit of the BJP.' A week after the audio conversation between Mondal and the police officer went viral, Mondal appeared before the sub-divisional police officer recently and recorded his statement. The TMC condemned Mondal's remarks and sought an apology from him, which he promptly complied with. Meanwhile, Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has announced that a 'Nari Samman Yatra' will be held in Bolpur on June 9. Speaking on the viral audio tape, Adhikari said, 'Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had taught Mondal what to say in the police station. After Bolpur's rally on June 9, the same yatra will take place in Nadia. I am expecting at least 10,000 people to attend the rally.' Mondal was arrested in August 2022 by the CBI in connection with the multi-crore cattle-smuggling case in West Bengal. Later, he was also arrested by the Enforcement Directorate. After spending over two years in Tihar Jail in New Delhi, Mondal was released on bail recently, following which he returned to his house in Bolpur under Birbhum district.
