Two drug couriers nabbed, over 70kg of ganja seized in Kepong

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have seized 70 packages of compressed ganja weighing 73.25kg during an operation in Kepong. Bukit Aman's Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) also arrested two local men aged 33 and 38 in the operation at 1.25am on Tuesday (June 17). Acting NCID director Deputy Comm Mat Zani @Mohd Salahuddin Che Ali said that acting on intelligence gathered, the team intercepted the suspects' vehicle along Jalan Baiduri and found the drugs after a search. "We believe the street value of the seized drugs is RM227,063, with the potential to impact up to 146,492 users if distributed," he said in a statement on Friday (June 20). He said initial investigations found that the ganja was smuggled in from a neighbouring country through the Perlis border and intended for distribution in the Klang Valley. The suspects are believed to have acted as transporters for the syndicate and have been active since early this year, he added. "Both suspects tested negative for drugs. However, background checks revealed extensive criminal records," he said. DCP Mat Zani said the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty, or life imprisonment with at least 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. "We have also taken action under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988, seizing two pairs of gold earrings valued at RM1,950. "This brings the total value of the seizure and confiscated items to RM229,013," he said, adding that the suspects have been remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation. "We are continuing efforts to dismantle the syndicate's network. "This successful operation highlights the commitment of the NCID in combating the country's number one enemy – drug abuse. "We urge the public to relay any information on drug-related activities via the NCID hotline at 012-208 7222," he added.

Decade-old Sibu syndicate crippled; 2 nabbed, RM8.5mil in drugs, assets seized

KUCHING: Police have seized drugs, cash, and assets worth RM8.5 million following the arrest of two key figures behind a drug syndicate that had been operating in Sibu for the past decade. Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said the suspects, a 52-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman, were detained in the course of three raids in the town on Thursday and Friday. "The arrests and seizures were made by a team from the Sibu police headquarters Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) at a shoplot along Jalan Pedada and two terraced houses in Lorong Permai Jaya. "The suspects are believed to have been actively involved in drug distribution in Sibu since 2015. Intelligence and investigations confirmed they were the masterminds behind the syndicate," he said. He added that the suspects had been sourcing drugs from Peninsular Malaysia via courier services before distributing them in the Sibu market. Urine tests found both suspects negative for drug use, and neither had any previous criminal records, he said. "The raids led to the discovery of 7.08kg of syabu, 2.07kg of ketamine, and 2.02kg of Eramin 5 pills, worth a combined RM532,934. The drugs were enough to supply nearly 50,000 addicts. "Police also confiscated RM5.1 million in cash, four gold bars, two gold chains, three Rolex watches, a Lexus RX350F Sport, a Lexus ES250, and a Toyota Vios. Bank cards, house keys and drug-packing tools were also seized for further investigation," he said. Mancha said the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment. If not sentenced to death, a mandatory whipping of no fewer than 12 strokes will be imposed upon conviction. The suspects have been remanded for seven days from June 13 to facilitate investigations. "Efforts are underway to track down the remaining members of the syndicate to ensure the entire operation is dismantled," he said. The public are urged to report drug-related activities by contacting the NCID hotline at 012-2087222.

Selangor police bust syndicate selling drug-laced vape liquid

SHAH ALAM: Selangor police have dismantled a syndicate selling drug-laced vape liquid worth more than RM5 million after raids in Klang Utara and Sungai Buloh on Tuesday and Wednesday. Twelve individuals were arrested, including two local men and 10 foreigners — four of them women — aged between 21 and 38. Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said this marked the biggest success of the year for the state police in combating drug abuse involving electronic cigarettes. The first raid took place around 8pm on Tuesday at a vape shop in Klang Utara. "During the raid, police seized 663 cartridges containing vape liquid suspected to contain methamphetamine, with an estimated total volume of 1,260ml. "A 21-year-old local man, who was the shop assistant, was arrested. Background checks showed he had no criminal record and his initial urine test came back negative. "The seized vape liquid is estimated to be worth RM199,000 and believed to be intended for distribution around the Klang Valley," he said at a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters today. Following the first raid, Hussein said another operation was launched at 12.30am on Wednesday at a factory in Sungai Buloh, which was used to package the vape liquid. There, police detained 11 individuals — one local man and 10 foreigners including the four women aged between 21 and 38 — and seized 4,600 pods along with 158 plastic drums filled with vape liquid suspected to contain amphetamine (864,600ml) and ketamine (650,000ml). "Preliminary investigations revealed that the local man acted as the business manager while the foreigners were involved in packaging the drug-laced vape liquid. "Checks showed none of the suspects had any prior criminal record. The total value of vape liquid seized in the second raid is estimated at RM4.91 million, believed to be intended for distribution in the Klang Valley and neighbouring countries," he said. Hussein said the packaging factory had been operating for the past six months and is believed to be funded by a foreign man who is being sought by the police. "The individual is believed to have entered the country and taught the local suspect (the business manager) how to process the drug-laced vape liquid. "We are also investigating whether this case is linked to a Taiwanese syndicate recently busted by Bukit Aman's Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID)," he said. Meanwhile, Hussein said checks showed that the vape shop involved in the first raid had been operating for the past four years. The premises owner is believed to be overseas and will be called in to assist in investigations. All 12 suspects had been remanded for between five and seven days. s
