KUMAMOTO (TR) – Authorities here last month arrested a 48-year-old music producer from Tokyo over the alleged smuggling of illegal drugs ketamine and MDMA, or Ecstasy, reports Fuji News Network (June 10). The suspect arrested on suspicion of violating the Narcotics Control Act is music producer (48), who lives in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo. On May 22, Masanori Morita, who lives in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, is suspected of importing the drugs MDMA and ketamine into Japan via Kumamoto Airport on a flight from Seoul, Korea. When customs officials at the airport inspected the suitcase Morita had checked in, powder-like substances in two vials was found in a trouser pocket, which after an examination was identified as being MDMA and ketamine. Kumamoto Prefectural Police arrested Morita after receiving a report from customs officials. Police have not revealed whether Morita has admitts to the charges, saying such information would be an impediment to the investigation. The bust represents the first seizure of ketamine and MDMA at Kumamoto Airport. Police are now investigating how Morita obtained the drugs.

During questioning, Yoshihide Tanaka, the 44-year-old secretary-general of Nippon Kakekomidera (Japan Refuge), told police he received the cocaine from 'a foreigner' in the Kabukicho red-light district. On Thursday, police accused Yoshihide Tanaka, the 44-year-old secretary-general of Nippon Kakekomidera (Japan Refuge), of using cocaine, which is a violation of the Narcotics Control Act. 'I was using cocaine to stay awake so I could respond to consultation cases in the middle of the night,' Tanaka said in admitting to the allegations. Tanaka also said that he started using marijuana about 10 years ago and cocaine around three months ago. When asked where he got the drugs, he told police, 'If you buy it on social media, your history will be left behind. So, I approached a foreigner in Kabukicho and bought it from him with cash.' The results of a subsequent urine test was positive for illegal drugs. Police later found cocaine and trace amounts of marijuana in the suspect's home. TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 34-year-old man for allegedly possessing illegal drugs with the intent to sell in Saitama Prefecture last month, reports the Sankei Shimbun (May 29). At around 10:35 a.m. on April 1, Tomohiro Goto allegedly possessing 68 grams of kakuseizai (methamphetamine), 916 grams of marijuana, 229 grams of cocaine and 50 grams of MDMA, or Ecstasy, inside a vehicle parked on a street in Hanno City. The contraband has a street value of 14.5 million yen, the Machida Police Station said. Tomohiro Goto (X) Upon his arrest on suspicion of violating the Stimulants Control Act and the Narcotics Control Act over possession of profit, Goto admitted to the charges. 'I was making a profit by trafficking illegal drugs,' he said. The arrest is not the first for Goto. He was arrested twice in April and May on suspicion of unlawful arrest and confinement, assault and other offenses. According to police, he assaulted and confined a man and his acquaintance with whom he was having financial problems in February. When his car was searched as a part of that investigation in April, the large quantities of meth and the other drugs were found.

On Sunday night, Yoshihide Tanaka, the 44-year-old secretary-general of Nippon Kakekomidera (Japan Refuge), is alleged to have been in possession of a bag of cocaine in his wallet in Shinjuku Ward. Upon his arrest on suspicion of violating the Narcotics Control Act, Tanaka admitted to the allegations. 'I kept it for my own use,' he said. Police also arrested a woman in her 20s who was with Tanaka for allegedly using cocaine. The cocaine was discovered when police officers questioned the two suspects. The arrested woman received consultations from Japan Refuge. Police are now investigating the possibility that Tanaka encouraged her to use the illegal drug. Yoshihide Tanaka (X) Poverty and drug abuse According to its website, Nippon Kakekomidera has been operating under its current name since 2011. Located in the Kabukicho red-light district, it provides advice on a wide range of issues including domestic violence, school refusal, poverty and drug abuse. Hidemori Gen, the founder of Nippon Kakekomidera, told NHK, 'We are sorry for betraying the trust placed in the organization.'
