2 IITB alumni pledge 100cr for hostel redevpt on campus
Mumbai: In its largest-ever donation received for the betterment of "students' living experiences" on the campus, two of IIT Bombay's alumni have committed to contribute Rs 100 crore for the purpose. The donation will be used for the enhancement of campus infrastructure, mainly the students' residential facilities. The contribution came from IITB alumni Nakul Aggarwal and Ritesh Arora, co-founders of BrowserStack, a cloud-based web and mobile testing platform, who were from the computer science and engineering batch of 2006. It will be directed towards two major initiatives—the reconstruction of Hostel 6, where both of them stayed as students, and Project Evergreen, a comprehensive initiative to modernise hostels 7, 8 and 21. A portion of the contribution will be given to the institute as part of BrowserStack 's corporate social responsibility initiative. In another generous gesture at alumni giving back to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, Nakul Aggarwal and Ritesh Arora, co-founders of BrowserStack, have committed to contributing Rs 100 crore to their alma mater to enhance campus infrastructure, particularly pertaining to student residential facilities. The co-founder duo of BrowserStack, a cloud-based web and mobile testing platform, graduated from IIT Bombay in 2006 with BTech degrees in computer science engineering. Their donation will be directed towards two major initiatives – the reconstruction of Hostel 6, where they both resided at IIT Bombay, and Project Evergreen, a comprehensive initiative to modernise Hostels 7, 8 and 21. As per information shared by the institute, their donation is among the largest contributions ever received for student living experiences. In June 2023, IIT Bombay received a donation of Rs 315 crore ($38.5 million) from Nandan Nilekani, co-founder and chairman of Infosys Ltd and founding chairman of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), who is also an alumnus of the institute. According to IIT Bombay, the reconstruction project for Hostel 6 aims to create a modern and comfortable living space equipped with contemporary amenities that promote student well-being and support academic excellence. This initiative is part of a larger vision at IIT Bombay to enhance the student living and learning experience by upgrading its hostel facilities to accommodate 14,000 students.
