Canada gears up for Regional Final on road to ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026
Toronto, June 15 (UNI) The final step in the regional race for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 begins on Sunday with Canada, Bahamas, Bermuda and Cayman Islands set to do battle here at the Americas Qualifier. Twelve matches in a double round-robin format will be held across the eight-day competition, kicking off with an opening double-header of Canada v Bermuda and Cayman Islands v Bahamas at Maple Leaf Cricket Club on Sunday. Teams will play each other twice before the event concludes on 22 June with only the table-topping side advancing to the next stage. Reflecting on the prospect of qualifying for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, Canadian captain Nicholas Kirton, stated: 'I would feel like half of the job is done, we went to our first T20 World Cup last year and played some good cricket and got a win against Ireland. The goal for this team is to improve on that.' Bermuda will be eager to have a new opportunity after missing out on NRR last time. Captain Terryne Fray shared his thoughts: 'If Bermuda were to qualify for the World Cup, it would be the greatest achievement in sporting history for us. It's something that, for a long time, has been unfathomable, but we understand that the pathway is there, and we can obtain it! The feeling would be indescribable, but what I do know is that if we did qualify, it would be the greatest feeling for every Bermudian.' Cayman Islands and Bahamas recently promoted from the Subregional Qualifier had their say too. Conroy Wright skipper of the Cayman Islands summarised his thoughts 'I would be delighted. I wouldn't have the words to explain the feelings'; whilst Bahamas skipper Marc Taylor said he would be 'Elated. Excited and on top of the world!'. As they gear up for their final league match, there's still a mathematical possibility for them to finish in the top two of the points table, crucial for gaining two chances at making the final. Current Standings Snapshot 2 / 10 RCB currently sits in the top half of the IPL table with 17 points and a net run rate (NRR) of +0.255. They are closely competing with Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), who are also strong contenders for a top-two finish. The Must-Win Final Match 3 / 10 To stay in contention, RCB must win their final match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 27. A victory will take them to 19 points, which is the minimum required to potentially break into the top two. NRR Could Be the Tiebreaker 4 / 10 If RCB ties on points with teams like PBKS or GT, the net run rate will decide the ranking. RCB's current NRR is decent, but not unbeatable. They will need a convincing win over LSG to boost their NRR further and secure the edge in case of a tie. Gujarat Titans – Key Competitor 5 / 10 GT currently has 18 points. Multiple Outcomes – RCB's Worst Case 9 / 10 RCB loses to LSG GT and PBKS win all remaining games CSK or another mid-table team improves NRR In this case, RCB could be overtaken on both points and NRR, missing the playoffs or finishing outside the top two. Final Thoughts 10 / 10 RCB's fate is partly in their hands and partly dependent on results elsewhere. A strong win over LSG is essential, but they'll also need favorable outcomes from GT, PBKS, and CSK. Regardless, their resilience in the league has kept fans hopeful until the very end.

Nevertheless, there is a lot to look forward to when RR play, in particular their terrific young opening combination. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been consistent through the season and just off the pace for the Orange Cap, being supported by the bold and fearless powerful hitting of Vaibhav Suryavanshi. There are a lot of players missing for RR as Jofra Archer doesn't return for the last part of this tournament and Nitish Rana misses out through injury, but they are provided a boost through the likely return of captain Sanju Samson from injury. If Samson can slide into number three, RR look like a much more comfortable and dangerous batting order. The question will be if they have enough bowling firepower to keep a destructive Punjab Kings team quiet. They had success last time out, as they beat PBKS which is retrospectively one of the bigger upsets of this tournament. But that was on the back of Jofra Archer wreaking havoc up front: with Archer missing, and Sandeep Sharma injured, the pace attack looks a little toothless. RR are mostly battling for pride, but some of the players on show will also be trying to prove a point: can they dig deep and find enough to overcome a team that looks bound for the playoffs? This is a game that Punjab Kings, meanwhile, will see as a must-win. Their last two games are tough assignments against Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, and they will want the buffer of being on 17 points heading into either of those games. The advantage for Punjab is that all three matches are set to be played in Jaipur, becoming a proxy home venue for them: they will have plenty of time to get accustomed to conditions and figure out what the best approach to games at this venue will be. PBKS aren't officially through even if they win today, but you have to imagine there isn't a world in which Shreyas Iyer's men fail to make the playoffs if they win today, with the momentum that would give them. Their intention will also be to finish in the top two. A win takes them comfortably into at least second place, while a big win might even push them above RCB on NRR. There is plenty of talent that has found a groove in Ricky Ponting's team, and they're difficult to bet against in this game, even if they lost the reverse fixture.
