NMMS 2024-25: 292 students selected from Mysuru
The results of the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) selection exam for the academic year 2024–25, conducted by the Union government, have been announced. A total of 292 students from Mysuru district have been selected. Although the district was allotted 274 seats under this scheme, an additional 18 students have been selected beyond the allocated quota. Students from classes 9 to 12 who are selected under this scheme will receive ₹12,000 per year, directly credited to their bank accounts. As many as 78 students from Mysuru rural have been selected, besides 51 from Mysuru South and 42 from T Narasipura. The number of students selected in other taluks and blocks includes Nanjangud (34); Hunsur (24); Mysuru North (22); 18 students each from K.R. Nagar and H.D. Kote, and five students from Periyapatna. As many as 98 students from Adarsha Vidyalayas have been selected, while 20 from Karnataka Public Schools (KPS), 58 from Government High Schools, and 45 from Government Higher Primary Schools have been selected. With this, 221 students (75.68%) were from government schools and 71 students (24.31%) were from aided institutions, according to an official release. Students who were selected this year, as well as those already receiving the NMMS in previous years and continuing their studies in classes 9 to 12 in government or aided institutions in 2025–26, can apply through the National Scholarship Portal. Details such as bank account information can be obtained from the NMMS nodal officers at the respective Block Education Offices or from the heads of their educational institutions, said the release from the principal of the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Mysuru.

Deputy BDO, panchayat secretary suspended for malpractice under MGNREGA
A deputy Block Development Officer and panchayat secretary of Vadipatti block were suspended recently for failing to monitor the irregularities committed in allotting works under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). The order, which was issued by the district administration, was based on a complaint demanding action against officials for irregularities committed by them in allotting works under MGNREGA. Sources in District Rural Development Agency said that Kalaiselvi, deputy BDO, and S. Selvam, Andipatti panchayat secretary, were suspended. Along with them, Karthigaiselvi, workplace supervisor, was sacked from duty. In addition, under 17(b) of Tamil Nadu Civil Service (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, actions have been initiated against Vadipatti village BDO Krishnaveni for failing to monitor and prevent the alleged malpractices committed by the subordinate officers. The petition which was initially submitted by Vadipatti villagers, including activist Gnanasekaran, with district Collector M. S. Sangeetha, read that the overseer who registers attendance of the workers on National Mobile Monitoring System (NMMS), recorded attendance of people who were absent on the day. Through such malpractices, the complainants alleged that the eligible workers were not given work. The amounts that were credited for the absentees were enjoyed by the officers and their associates, they alleged. While the disciplinary action came after inspection by DRDA officials, sources said that the probe would continue to see if any other malpractices were being committed by the officers.
