Clerk, colleague among 6 held for Rs 8 lakh robbery
Ghaziabad: Police arrested six persons after several gunfights in connection with the robbery of more than Rs 8 lakh from a cashier of an ice cream company in Kavi Nagar. Two of the accused were employees of the company, including the clerk who first reported the crime. On Monday, Amit Kumar was on his way to deposit Rs 8.15 lakh at a bank in Rajnagar for his company when he was allegedly approached and attacked by two assailants on a bike under the Nehru Nagar flyover. The accused threw chili powder in his eyes and threatened him with a weapon then fled with the bag of money. Kumar's employer filed a police complaint the same day and an FIR was registered under BNS section 309 (4) (robbery) against unknown persons. DCP (City) Dhawal Jaiswal said that Kavi Nagar police along with a SWAT team from the Crime Branch arrested Suraj Yadav (23), a resident of Lal Kuan, Nitin Kumar (20) of Hapur, and Manish Singh (24), a resident of Wave City, following a gunfight. Cops recovered Rs 4.3 lakh of the stolen money as well as three pistols with live and spent cartridges from their possession. Varanasi: Comprehensive security arrangements will be ensured for heavy influx of devotees at Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple during the upcoming month of Shravan. Divisional commissioner S Rajalingam and commissioner of police Mohit Agarwal held a meeting of officials on Thursday to discuss the facilities and security at the temple for the devotees during Shravan. They directed the concerned officials to ensure smooth temple visits and necessary arrangements. Emphasis was placed on comprehensive security arrangements and instructions were given to keep all CCTV cameras in and around the temple corridor in working order, and repair malfunctioning cameras immediately. The divisional commissioner instructed to ensure the arrangement of a centralised sound system. Instructions were also given to arrange an adequate public address system and additional sound systems. Special arrangements were discussed for the smooth visits of the devotees on Shravan Mondays. For this, robust barricading for queues and adequate arrangements for drinking water and shade will be ensured. J-K conducts flood mock drill in Pahalgam to bolster Amarnath Yatra preparedness
Pahalgam (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 20 (ANI): The Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Department conducted a mock drill simulating a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) scenario in Pahalgam on Friday. The exercise was held in coordination with the Anantnag District Management Authority and saw participation from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Army, and other emergency support and line departments. The exercise aimed at enhancing preparedness for the Amarnath Yatra will start on July 3. It tested response mechanisms for disasters like floods and accidents, critical for the safety of over 4.5 lakh pilgrims who visited the Amarnath cave shrine last year. The Deputy Secretary of the J-K Disaster Management Department, Snober Jameel, while speaking to ANI, stated, 'It is a very significant and important pilgrimage for us. So, before that, too, it's crucial that we ensure people are already prepared. Given the extreme weather events we are witnessing nowadays--like cloudbursts and other types of events--we must be prepared in advance. We have already implemented preparedness and preventive measures. For prompt response, we have already trained our staff.' The Deputy Secretary stated that the initiative aims to tackle potential disasters in advance, highlighting the region's vulnerability due to numerous glacial lakes in the Himalayas. The family of the deceased will be given a compensation amount of ₹ 4 lakh under the Disaster Relief Fund. In a separate incident in Jamshedpur, a 40-year-old private security guard Sanjay Verma was washed away while trying to cross a water-filled drain. The local residents retrieved the body and informed police, who shifted him to MGM Hospital where doctors declared him dead. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Hemant Soren interacted with deputy commissioners of all districts through video conferencing and directed them to remain alert in view of heavy rainfall in the state. He asked all deputy commissioners to take effective steps to deal with damage caused by heavy rains and the problem of waterlogging. He also asked officials to coordinate with local authorities and try to end waterlogging situation as soon as possible. "The damage caused to infrastructure like roads, bridges, houses, crops, etc, in districts should be assessed and an immediate report should be sent to the state government so that there is no delay in providing relief and compensation to the affected people.
