Jordan: NCSC approves 2025–2028 National Cybersecurity Strategy
AMMAN — The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) on Thursday said that it had approved Jordan's National Cybersecurity Strategy for 2025–2028. The strategy serves as a 'comprehensive' national plan aimed at supporting the Kingdom's efforts, through the centre, to build an effective national cybersecurity framework, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. The centre said it would work in partnership with relevant national institutions to develop the strategy's executive programme and oversee the implementation of related programmes and activities, based on 'clear' timelines and performance indicators. The strategy outlines the Kingdom's vision to establish a secure, resilient, and trusted Jordanian cyberspace, built on national capabilities and contributing to economic growth and prosperity. It also seeks to achieve this vision through four main strategic objectives and 14 sub-goals, with 'clear' priorities that encompass programmes, projects, and initiatives designed to deliver on these objectives. The strategy also aims to position Jordan as a 'leading' regional hub for cybersecurity, while ensuring a safe digital environment that fosters innovation and entrepreneurship, attracts global cybersecurity investment, and supports the Kingdom's economic modernisation and digital transformation goals. © Copyright The Jordan Times. Amritsar hooch tragedy: SC commission seeks action taken report from DC, SSP
Amritsar: The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has launched an investigation into the hooch tragedy in Amritsar's Majitha sub-division, which claimed the lives of 27 people in May. The NCSC has demanded an action taken report (ATR) from the Amritsar deputy commissioner and senior superintendent of police (SSP) within 15 days. The investigation was initiated after a complaint was filed by Parmjit Singh Kainth, vice-president of the BJP Scheduled Caster (SC) Morcha, Punjab, who raised concerns that the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government was attempting to cover up the fact that 16 of the victims were from the SC community. According to the notice served to the authorities, the commission will inquire into the incident under the powers conferred to it by Article 338 of the Constitution, which mandates the protection of SC rights. On Thursday, Kainth led a delegation of the BJP SC Morcha leaders to the villages affected by the tragedy and met with the families of the victims and expressed their concerns over the government's handling of the incident. Kainth accused the AAP government of hiding the identities of the SC victims in order to downplay the issue. 'The government is trying to cover up the fact that 16 of the deceased were from the SC community,' Kainth alleged. 'The liquor mafia continues to operate freely, and the AAP government has failed to take effective action against them.' The BJP leader flayed the government for its alleged failure to expose the mafia responsible for the illegal production of methanol-laced liquor, which caused the deaths.

Row over ‘disrespect to Ambedkar portrait' on Lalu Prasad birthday: SC panel asks Bihar officials for action taken report
The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) Thursday wrote to Bihar's Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) amid the controversy over RJD chief Lalu Prasad allegedly disrespecting Dr B R Ambedkar's portrait. The letter dated June 19, signed by NCSC Joint Secretary H Kam Suanthang, said that it came to the commission's notice from reports that Lalu Prasad had insulted Dr Ambedkar's photo on June 11, during his 78th birthday celebrations. The Commission has directed the state's top officials 'to submit a report on action taken within 15 days', warning that failure to respond could result in 'summons under constitutional powers granted by Article 338'. The controversy erupted after a video from Lalu's birthday celebration went viral, showing a party supporter allegedly placing Dr Ambedkar's portrait near Lalu's feet. On June 13, the Bihar State Commission for Scheduled Castes had already issued a notice referenced to the video, asking Lalu to 'explain his side within 15 days'. The state commission said that 'failure to respond would be interpreted as intentional disrespect' and will lead to 'registration of a case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act'. The ruling BJP and NDA allies criticised the incident, and accused Lalu of 'insulting the architect of the Constitution' and 'hurting Dalit sentiments'. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary had called it an 'unpardonable insult'. Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, LJP (Ram Vilas) MP from Samastipur Sambhavi Choudhary, and other NDA leaders also said that the act was 'disrespecting'and 'insulting' to Dalits. BJP leaders have amplified the issue on social media and demanded a public apology from the RJD founder. Meanwhile, the RJD had dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, with party spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari claiming the video is being 'misrepresented to polarise voters and malign Lalu's image before the polls'.

Notice to Bihar Chief Secretary, DGP over Lalu's ‘insult' to Ambedkar
The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has now taken cognisance of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav's alleged 'insult' to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and issued a notice to the State's Chief Secretary and Director-General of Police. This comes a week after visuals emerged of the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief celebrating his birthday on June 11, during which a portrait of Dr. Ambedkar was purportedly seen being placed near his feet. This had kicked off a political storm, with leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party, including State and Union Ministers, taking aim at him for allegedly 'insulting' the leader who led the Constitution of India's drafting committee. Protests were also seen across the State over the perceived insult to Dr. Ambedkar. Soon after the incident, Bihar's State Commission for Scheduled Castes had also issued a notice to Mr. Yadav over the insult. On Thursday (June 19), the NCSC issued a notice to the State police chief and the Chief Secretary, seeking a detailed report on the action taken in this case within 15 days of receiving it. The Commission said that it had taken cognizance of the 'insult' to Dr. Ambedkar through newspaper reports and social media posts and was hence taking up the matter.
