Major disruption expected due to protest over govt plans to purchase Citywest hotel
Major disruption is expected on the N7 on Thursday afternoon due to a protest over government plans to purchase Citywest hotel in Dublin to increase international protection applicants' accommodation. A vehicle rollout protest by the Stop Citywest Hotel Purchase residents group based in Saggart has been organised for 3:15pm. Advertisement A portion of the hotel located in Dublin is already being used by the government to provide housing for IPAs, and the move would see 1,000 people being able to be accommodated there. It has been reported that the hoped for expansion could cost the state €100 million if purchased. The current owners of Citywest received €51 million from the State for the first nine months of last year for use of the facility. The hotel is the biggest in the country. The government has pledged to cease using private accommodation for such applicants replacing it with State owned facilities. Advertisement This afternoon's action, which is expected to disrupt heavy weekend traffic, follows a peaceful protest outside the Dáil last Wednesday. The moving car protest will involve a loop of Saggart village surrounding the hotel and will then continue across three lanes of the N7 to Naas in Co Kildare where it will end. Over the past number of days the residents group have been involved in slow driving protests around the local Saggart area A group spokesperson explained that the 'government's decision' to purchase Citywest Hotel and convert it into a permanent refugee center will have an 'irreversible effect on our village'. Advertisement The spokesperson continued: 'Such an action will not only strain local infrastructure and resources but also place significant stress on both the existing and newly arrived populations. Both groups are likely to suffer from inadequate integration efforts, which are essential for fostering mutual understanding and harmony.' The spokesperson highlighted that the group is fighting to 'reclaim' what they view as their local amenities and save their leisure center, gym, and restaurant, which are part of the Citywest Hotel complex. '(These) are likely to close with the purchase. We want our convention center back so it can again host events. 'Furthermore, transforming such a significant local landmark into a permanent center is affecting local businesses reliant on tourism and disrupting the quiet ambiance many of us value,' the spokesperson noted. 'It is causing challenges in community integration and our security. It is placing a burden on our public services, such as education, healthcare, and transportation, and we have seen very little help from the government for our village'.

Nissan stuns vehicle buyers with new ultra-affordable electric vehicle — and it's far from bare-bones
Nissan is stepping up its electric vehicle game by cutting back the price of its newest EV. According to Electrek, the new Nissan N7 sedan, which was recently unveiled at the Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, starts at only $16,500. This may be Nissan's attempt at competing with Chinese EV giant BYD, which recently released the Qin L for $16,500. Despite the low price, the N7 isn't some bare-bones EV without any flashy smart tech. It comes with high-speed navigation, city memory navigation, as well as intelligent parking, all of which can be controlled using the 15.6-inch infotainment monitor. It also comes with AI voice interaction. The N7 doesn't sacrifice much on range either. It comes in five different models, which can trek from 316 miles on a single charge to 388. One of the reasons Nissan is able to sell the N7 for so cheap is because it has a lithium iron phosphate battery pack rather than a lithium-ion battery made using nickel, manganese, and cobalt like a lot of EVs. LFP batteries are significantly cheaper to manufacture. Volkswagen used the same strategy in manufacturing its new affordable EV, the ID.2. Unfortunately, none of the affordable EVs mentioned here will be hitting the streets in the United States any time soon, though that could always change with enough consumer demand. For now, the N7 and Qin L are focused on the Chinese market, and the ID.2 is targeting the European market. EVs already have well-known money-saving benefits over gas-powered vehicles in that they don't require as much maintenance and the driver doesn't need to worry about fluctuating gas prices. That's on top of the fact that EVs don't produce planet-warming pollution that contributes to extreme weather events. But for some, EVs might not have been an option because they're generally a little more expensive. Cheaper EVs such as the N7 could convince consumers to make their next car an EV. Home solar can increase the savings from owning an EV by cutting charging costs. Charging at home using solar power is cheaper than using public charging stations or energy from the grid. EnergySage provides homeowners with a free service that helps them compare quotes from vetted solar installers as well as any rebates or tax incentives for going solar. Additionally, Palmetto has a solar leasing program called LightReach, which helps you install panels on your home for no money down and still lock in low energy rates. If you were going to purchase an EV, which of these factors would be most important to you? Cost Battery range Power and speed The way it looks Click your choice to see results and speak your mind. Nissan receives 17,000 N7 orders in the first month
Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company Ltd (Dongfeng Nissan), one of Nissan Motor's vehicle manufacturing joint ventures in China, announced that it had received more than 17,000 orders for its new N7 battery-powered sedan in its first month. The N7, launched on 27 April, is the first of nine new energy vehicles (NEVs) that Nissan plans to launch in China by the summer of 2027, as the Japanese automaker looks to reverse its sharp sales decline in the world's largest vehicle market. Deliveries of the N7, which is targeted mainly at young families, began on 15 May. The N7 is available with two battery options, 58 kWh and 73 kWh, and has a maximum cruising range of 635 km. The car is equipped with an advanced end-to-end driver-assistant system called Navigate on Autopilot, which was jointly developed with Momenta - a Chinese autonomous driving technology company. The model also features 'zero-pressure seating', which uses an AI-based adaptive posture system that adjusts the seat based on input from individual sensors. The N7 is available in China with three specification levels, the Max, Pro and Air. The Max and Pro models offer two types of battery at prices ranging between CNY 119,900 and CNY 149,900. Dongfeng Nissan's managing director, Isao Sekiguchi, said in a statement: 'With the launch of the N7 as a new starting point, we will work together with everyone to create a more diverse and exciting automotive lifestyle.' Nissan confirmed it plans to export the N7 and other Chinese-made NEVs to 'help meet diverse global needs and bolster the restructuring of Nissan's product strategy under the Re:Nissan recovery plan.' Nissan Turns Its Ultra-Comfortable Seats Into Office Furniture
Nissan Turns Its Ultra-Comfortable Seats Into Office Furniture originally appeared on Autoblog. Nissan is in trouble and, to save money, is reportedly trying to sell its headquarters in Yokohama, Japan . Movements in the U.S. have also led the automaker to scrap its most affordable model. But the Japanese automaker isn't giving up yet, particularly in one of the world's largest automotive markets: China. At the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, Nissan unveiled its latest EV, the N7, to entice Chinese customers. Made in collaboration with Dongfeng as part of a joint venture, the Nissan Altima-sized N7 is a critical model for the marque. Japanese automakers are currently under pressure from the surge in popularity of homegrown EV makers. Of note, Nissan's sales in the People's Republic have slumped by 12% in 2024. But the Nissan N7 has another feature in that's rather unique. It touts the most comfortable car seats in the world, so much so that the company has turned them into office chairs. According to Nikkei Asia, Nissan's decision to produce office furniture based on the N7's seats was due to customer feedback, with Nissan's seats described as "comfortable as a sofa." Called the "AI Zero Pressure Cloud Cushion Seat," the chair was originally developed to be used as the driver and front passenger seats of the Nissan N7 EV. Supported by artificial intelligence, the chair is equipped with 49 smart sensors that adjust pressure based on the user's body shape and posture. It also has heated seat capability. View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Most importantly, the office chair has a cool 12-point massage system, targeting areas like the neck, shoulders, and back, with three intensity levels and ten massage programs. Now that's an office chair we'd love to have. Measuring 63 inches tall, 29.1 inches wide, and 31.5 inches deep, the Nissan office chair's cushion can extend up to 2.4 inches for maximum comfort. It can be controlled via a smartphone app, and operates while plugged in or on battery. Full charge lasts five hours. View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article This isn't the first time that Nissan has delved into making office chairs. In 2016, the automaker revealed an office chair that can park itself, as part of Nissan's promotion of its Intelligent Mobility suite of smart vehicle technologies. However, this will be the first time the company will sell office furniture directly to the public. Available via Dongfeng Nissan's official app in China, the AI Zero Pressure Cloud Cushion Seat has a price tag of 9,888 yuan, or approximately $1,372 at current exchange rates. Whether the chairs are sold outside of China remains to be seen.
