Stanley faces criticism over controversial Post Malone collab
I love my Stanley cups. I have one for travel (the IceFlow) and one for home (the Quencher). Of course, I keep things simple. My wardrobe is mostly black and white, and so are my Stanley cups. One black. One white. No matter what I'm wearing or where I'm going, my cup always matches. Meanwhile, I've noticed some people seem to have 100 different Stanley cups in 100 different colors - one to match every mood, outfit, or season. The brand released a first look at its upcoming Post Malone collab, and it's already sparking debate online. Fans of Stanley's clean, classic aesthetic aren't exactly embracing the bold look of the Post Malone designs. And some are questioning whether the company is leaning too hard into constant limited-edition releases. If you scroll Reddit, it's clear this latest collab has stirred up a lot of chatter - and not all of it is positive. The new collaboration includes a limited-edition 40-ounce Post Malone Quencher featuring a MultiCam® camo design with bold orange accents and a patriotic Posty Co. keychain. The standalone tumbler is priced at $65. A second version, priced at $75, pairs the tumbler with a matching pouch and belt. The collection isn't available for purchase yet, but it's already live on Stanley's site, fueling buzz across social media. Reactions to the collab have been polarized. Some users are flat-out rejecting the design: "It is ugly anyway, so with the MultiCam print or not, I would never buy this one," wrote u/gandalfpr. Still, not everyone is disappointed. "It's so cute, I might actually die!!" gushed u/burgledhams, showing that the drop does have its fans. Love them or hate them, Stanley's limited-edition drops have become big business. The company, founded in 1913, saw a massive resurgence in recent years, thanks to viral demand for its Quencher tumblers. According to CNBC, Stanley hit $750 million in sales in 2023, up from just $73 million in 2019. A key part of that growth strategy? Collaborations. By partnering with influencers and celebrities, Stanley keeps buzz high and demand strong. The constant stream of new designs creates urgency and taps into the collector mindset - even if some core fans feel fatigued. Collaborations have become a key tool for keeping the brand fresh and driving ongoing demand. Still, as this latest Post Malone drop shows, there's a fine line between exciting customers and overwhelming them. Stanley will need to strike the right balance as it rides this wave of success and faces ever-higher expectations from its loyal fan base. Although this "Manley Cup," as u/Sonicorp called it, may not be for me, I'll be watching from the sidelines - while staying hydrated, of course.
