Asif to compete in CW Championships
The three-time World Champion Muhammad Asif has qualified to compete in the Commonwealth Snooker & Billiard Sports Championship 2025. The Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association (PBSA) stated in a press release that the ace cueist qualified for participation in the Commonwealth Snooker & Billiard Sports Championship 2025 in Mauritius by virtue of winning the recent IBSF World Men Snooker Championship 2024, in Doha, Qatar. The World Confederation of Billiards Sports is hosting the Commonwealth Snooker & Billiard Sports Championship 2025 from July 2 to July 6. "We have submitted the visa documents of Muhammad Asif in the Mauritius Embassy in Islamabad and are waiting for obtaining the visa," the PBSA Honorary Secretary Naveed Kapadia told the media. "We believe in Muhammad Asif's ability to achieve great things on the World Snooker arena, and we are confident that he will bring home a medal for our beloved country. "We wish the best of luck to our IBSF World Champion Muhammad Asif and we are all incredibly proud of him, and we are behind him in every way. May his journey to victory be filled with joy, success, and unwavering spirit. Go get that medal." Asif became the second person to win the IBSF World Championship thrice. He took his first title in 2012, then in 2019 and in 2024 he won it for the third time. Apart form individual titles, Asif has also won the IBSF Team Snooker Championships twice for Pakistan. In 2013, he partnered with Muhammad Sajjad to take the title for the first time and then he paired with Babar Masih to win it in 2017, where they defeated team 1 from Pakistan which had his former snooker partner Sajjad and Muhammad Asjad as their opponents in the final. Asif also ventured into the professional snooker as he competed at the British Open qualifying round in 2023.

29-year-old Mississauga man facing new charges after being connected with attempted murder, kidnapping investigation: police
Muhammad Asif, a 29-year-old from Mississauga was charged with several Criminal Code offences. (Peel Regional Police) A 29-year-old man charged in an intimate partner violence investigation this spring was re-arrested in connection with an attempted murder and kidnapping case in Mississauga. The suspect allegedly used a firearm during an intimate partner violence incident that occurred on April 15, police say. Peel police say they seized a 9mm handgun along with an undisclosed quantity of drugs from the accused's home and vehicle after executing a search warrant. Muhammad Asif, of Mississauga, was charged with several offences, including uttering threats, two counts each of possession for the purpose of opioids and schedule 1 cocaine, and two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to order, among others. Following Asif's arrest, police identified him as a suspect wanted in a kidnapping and attempted murder incident that occurred on March 9 near Burnhamthorpe Road West and Mavis Road in Mississauga. They add they subsequently issued a warrant for his arrest. Asif was re-arrested on June 2 and charged with kidnapping and attempted murder, police say. The charges have not been tested in court. Anyone with information about either of the incidents is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

Three sentenced in kidnapping case
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) sentenced three accused in a case of kidnapping for ransom to life imprisonment after the charges were proven during the trial. District and Sessions Judge Zulfiqar Ali announced the verdict following the completion of the trial. The court handed down life imprisonment to Muhammad Asif, Ilyas and Nadeem Abbas for their involvement in the abduction of Sajid Raza in 2024. According to the prosecution, the accused had kidnapped Sajid from near Bahawalpur Bypass in Mumtazabad with the intention of extorting ransom. The case was registered under Sections 365, 365A, 382 and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Inspector Shaukat Hayat of Mumtazabad police led the investigation and submitted the challan based on evidence. Following the proceedings, the court found the accused guilty.

11 policemen booked for deadly 'fake encounter'
An FIR has been registered against 11 police officials for killing a man in a fake encounter three years after the incident. The FIA registered the case after completing an investigation. According to an FIA spokesperson, the agency lodged an FIR against the 11 police officials under serious charges for their alleged involvement in the fake encounter. The complainant, Khalida Parveen, had appealed for justice for her husband's murder. She alleged that her husband, Muhammad Asif, had been abducted on April 6, 2023, while buying vegetables from a market. At the time, there was no case against him, and no court proceedings were pending. However, after taking him into custody, the police registered several cases against him. She claimed that the police had planned and carried out a fake encounter. On the night of April 19, 2023, they took her husband and another citizen, Muhammad Shaban, to the jurisdiction of Burewala Model Town police station and fired at them. During the firing, Thingee Police Station SHO Mazhar Fareed who was then an ASI, shot Asif in the leg. He was shifted to the Vehari District Headquarters Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The complainant alleged that her husband had been illegally detained, subjected to torture and extra-judicially killed without any court proceedings or legal authority. After completing the investigation, the Multan FIA Anti-Corruption Circle (ACC) registered an FIR with charges under sections 302 (premeditated murder), 34 (common intention), 109 (abetment), and the Torture and Custodial Death Act 2022. According to the FIR, 11 police officials were found involved in the fake encounter and murder of Muhammad Asif. The officials include SHO Nasir Mahmood, ASI Mazhar Fareed, ASI Muhammad Ali, Driver Constable Muhammad Imran, Constable Ahsan Amin, Constable Naveed Irfan, Constable Muhammad Iqbal, Constable Saifullah, Constable Abdul Wahid, Constable Muhammad Sarwar and Driver Constable Majeed Rasheed.
